StarTrooper's TFA/TROS FOTK Build Thread (KB Props)
StarTrooper replied to StarTrooper's topic in TFA Build Threads
Thank you very much, I think I’ll use velcro then, maybe it’ll allow me to keep that front edge as well, since it is screen accurate. For the gaskets, the material is quite shiny, and the color is fairly dark, but if it is an issue, maybe I’ll give it a coat of black dye. -

Hey everyone! I apologize for the lack of updates, I injured my arm and it had to be splinted for the past few days, so I didn't get much work done, but here are the updates from before. Back/Yoke Here's the back/yoke, glued at the top. TIP: make sure to put lots of glue here, as this place WILL take a lot of stress. Also be sure to clamp it all down as well. Question: should the sides be glued or are they okay as it is? Shoulder Bells Glued in the connector pieces, looks pretty accurate in my opinion. I just eyeballed it, you can measure if you like as well. Gaskets I did pick up some gasket material, no templates yet, but I'm hoping to start working on them soon. And that is pretty much it. Until next time -

Thanks For sure! At the moment, I haven’t done anything at all yet with the material, and I unfortunately won’t be able to start on the gasket templates, as I’m going to be out of town this weekend. But once I start I’ll definitely show the process -

Hey! Good to hear another new FOTK! For the gaskets, I managed to pick some up at a local Joann’s which happened to have some in stock from this link: https://www.joann.com/cosplay-ribbed-pleather-fabric-black/16228017.html I’m not sure if there are any near you, but it’s definitely worth a check. Unfortunately you can’t order it online, it seems like they are no longer making it. If not, it might be a good idea to message jimmiroquai on the RPF (Replica Props Forum) or Geeky Pink here on whitearmor.net. Hope you find a solution! -
Star Wars Underworld TKs - Cancelled Live Action Show 2010

Hmm, those look to be FX armor, as well as the helmet. I wonder why those were used instead of something Lucasfilm produced. -

Thank you, I’ll see about modding that at a later time. I also checked the CRL and it says that separate wrist boxes are for Centurion, so it shouldn’t be a problem for basic approval. I would like to go for Centurion, but I’m not sure if it’s my goal at the moment. If I were to mod it though, I would maybe 3D print another forearm box, and slip it on overtop. -

Alrighty, KB forearm mod is basically completed, just need some black styrene. I think it looks much better, and it was relatively simple to do! First use the cutting wheel tool of the Dremel to make a small cut. Then go in with Lexan scissors and make it bigger, but not too far. Finally, finish cleaning up the edges with a needle file and, done! -

Cool thank you for these images! That sounds like a good idea, the pull isn't very sharp on that part either. So I should cut out the area highlighted in red? -

Hey everyone! Back with another update! First off... Shins I've glued the outsides of the shins together, and then added a strip of Velcro down the insides. Now the shins are almost done. Here's a funny looking picture of the glueing setup. Also I took a page out of TheSwede's book, er build thread and clipped the corners of the inner strips. Just because no-one sees it doesn't mean it can't look nice! Shoulder Connectors Trimmed and almost ready for glueing. Knees Knees are trimmed as well. Untrimmed Trimmed Forearms The forearms are almost ready to be glued, I just have a question about the wrist end. At the moment, I can get my hand through, although it's kinda a squeeze. So can I take any more of the edge off? Or is it about right. (I also need to finish sanding) And thats pretty much it. Until next time -
Definitely no to Jedi Robe, that armor is terrible and very outdated, and is definitely not worth the money. Check out some of the vetted sellers from this link: These makers will be much better quality and will be much more accurate. Good luck with the build!

ROS - would the "original" plot have been better?
StarTrooper replied to Daetrin's topic in Off Topic
Yeah, I definitely think it sounds awesome! I feel like that would have been really cool to see, but I’m wondering if the roles were reversed, and it was JJ’s that got scrapped and Trevorrow’s that made it to theaters, maybe I would feel the same about the scrapped movie, and would like JJ’s movie better. -
Awesome, love the carded figure. Is it a custom?

Okay maybe I should have posted a picture of what I was asking earlier. Just to confirm, is overlaps on both sides accepted, or is it only on the inside. -

Cool, yeah I only thought overlap could be used for the inside of the shin, I didn't know it could be for the outside of the shin as well -

Okay cool, thank you both so much, I think I'm going to overlap then, as it's screen accurate as well. It also looks a bit cleaner than trying to use inner cover strips. Here's how much I have for the overlap on the inside of the shins. Also here's a side by side of the slight overlap on the outside compared to the join. Join Overlap I think the overlap looks much better. Thanks again. -

Thanks! For the blaster, I have a 3D printer so I’m printing it myself. Some pieces are not there as they’re still being printed -

Hey everyone! Back with an update! Rough trimming continues. Lets start with the chest. Chest Trimmed the sides down to accurate size. For the back/ yoke, I'm going to wait till I glue them together to trim the sides so that it looks like one piece. Also I found the trim line and drew it out in pencil. Shoulder parts Dremeled them out using a cutting wheel, made quick work of those. Abdomen Didn't do much trimming, KB already rough cut the top and bottom edge and I didn't want to trim too much off. I only trimmed the sides. Shins The shins were relatively easy, and they should be easy to put together, as unlike the thighs they already have the curve molded in which is good. Blaster My 3D print of the blaster designed by The5thorseman is basically finished, and my does it look awesome! I'm blown away by the detail, it's just incredible. Forearms Did a little more trimming on the forearms with the cutting wheel, looking close to where I think it should look. And that is pretty much it. On a side note, KB's rough trimming job is ok for the most part, but on a couple of the pieces they are slightly hacked at. Nothing major, but still a slight inconvenience. I'm also trying to make the thread easier to read, note the change in font size. Until next time
