  1. @Oztrooper is also an FISD Armorer, Attache, and AP-enthusiast, so he would be another fantastic resource to reach out to with any AP-specific questions!
  2. Many mics are actually directional underneath the little puffy foam cover, so ensure it's actually pointed towards your mouth and not outward. I have mine literally almost touching my lips when I use it and that helps quite a bit. If you're using a wireless mic or voice modulator, you can usually turn down the mic pickup sensitivity as well. Good luck!
  3. Looks like this suit is up for sale again at Studio Auctions, with even less info than previous... https://www.studioauctions.comstormtrooper_501st_28__ensemble_from_rogue_one-lot1001.aspx I'm still so curious as to the authenticity and the story behind it if anyone has anything else to share.
  4. Let's gooooo! So happy to see another Rogue One/New Era style build of this high of a caliber come across the boards! I've been following along closely and this is one of the most well built and accurate suits I've seen in a hot minute and Mike has done exactly what I would, and plan to, do to refresh my ROTK kit. Best of luck, @MikeRadnessbut this should sail through and be a fantastic example for others
  5. This one is an early Rogue One helmet. I welcome an admin to do so.
  6. Correct - hopefully you're pointing this out just as another way in which the new pauldron has improved over the original commissioned one Okay just a few more before I find time to put everything on again...
  7. Et voila. If no objections, I'll finish the final gluing and hopefully the next time you see this will be with the full armor and helmet!
  8. Super. Cut and painted! Will let the paint dry fully and then get gluing for final assembly. Previous two attempts for comparison.
  9. Templated up and feeling better about version number 3 of the center connector. The center panel looks a lot closer and the overall shape was changed to better suit the new angles, but needs to be at least that long to cover the chest armor indent. I also plan on mixing the grey paint a bit darker this time. I went pretty easy on the glue to avoid it bleeding out from under the red panels, but I do need to go back and CA or leather glue all the corners that have the more aggressive bends in them as well (can see it at the top). Finally, you can't see them, but I pulled up the velvet lining and epoxied two large, round neodymium magnets underneath, so the front of the pauldron is held down by the same magnets that secure the chest, and strong bar magnets in the back. This allows the pauldron to click into place easily and securely but still move some with my arms, but it always wants to return "home". Making some progress again and will cut the connector out of leather next if it looks good. I'm not happy until everyone agrees it's ready for a CRL!
  10. Added to the Potential FISD CRL Guide Reference Thread
  11. Updated to reflect the approval of the Imperial Armored Commando CRL! Congrats @Sithtrooper02 and to the whole Detachment for a new CRL!
  12. Please DO lean on us! No one woke up knowing how to build a stormtrooper - it's something we learn over time and hopefully with the help of others. I hope no one gave you the impression that you were being needy, and we have many quality mentors who would be happy to help - myself included. Ensure you've joined us on our Facebook group and try to make it out to an armor party in the future! https://www.facebook.com/groups/SCGImperialRecruits
  13. https://a.co/d/bOaKzxU Rubber gloves are ridiculous for hot weather. Fans in the helmet, a quality, breathable undersuit, and thin, lightweight running gloves are the way to go!
  14. Progress! Red and grey panels have been glued down, but... I'm not sure I'm happy with the connecting panel. Might redo it but overall it's looking good. Next is to ensure the fit is right and then add the magnets that hold it on.
  15. I can see your point and have modified the gray panels to suit, and will be painting them a bit darker gray this time around! This was an excellent point and I'm glad I spent some time on this before going any further. When the new, thinner and more flexible pauldron is laid on the armor, it is now able to lay more naturally to ensure that it does not raise above horizontal at the shoulder. However, it became clear that trying to push the front pie slices into place was the main cause of this and that more material would need to be removed from the front edges of the pauldron. At our Squad armor party this past weekend while I had some extra eyes, I laid out the pauldron and red panels using some magnets to hold them in place - I used the back panel to help locate everything but didn't have enough magnets to also hold it on, which shouldn't matter for the front placement. It became clear that all of the excess material in black would need to go in order to allow the pauldron to slope more naturally downward... One side done, for comparison... And the other, with all of the pie cuts trimmed to fit... I'm MUCH happier with the way that lays now and I think is a huge improvement over the previous version, shown below for comparison... If no one protests, I think this is now pretty much ready to be glue down, but I welcome any final constructive feedback. Thanks all!
  16. Who is the maker of the shoulder bridges and who is the maker of your kit? Usually you would want to purchase any armor pieces from the same manufacturer to help ensure the color matches closely. Some makers are known to use ABS that is a certain shade of white that more closely matches others so that info would help us advise. Trying to match your suit to your bridges sounds like an exercise in futility and as above, I don't recommend starting to whiten your kit until it's pretty darn yellow - once you start, it yellows again faster.
  17. Added more triangle to the gap! Did another coat of red but now I have a little more gloss than I'd like, but it'll knock down with eventual weathering. And again compared to the old one. Looking good to glue, @themaninthesuitcase? No turning back after that.
  18. Trimmed the middle panel a bit more to emphasize the triangular shape of the gap, good call. More pics after another coat of red. Been working on the center connector and cut new pieces after templating based off the old one, but increased the gaps and it is more consistently symmetrical. Mixed up some leather paint but needed to darken up the available grey. It dried lighter than I'd like so I may do another coat with more black mixed in. And laid out, almost completed.

  20. Charging ahead with some new panels... Probably need one more coat of paint to be rid of any streaks, but laid where they should go... Should be much closer to reference but still some time to adjust before gluing them down. Just the front connecting piece left to re-template and cut!
  21. Been letting the summer heat in my workshop and decision paralysis hold me up on this one, but it's time to keep moving and close this out. I finished up my new template, which was approved by my production supervisor: Under the watchful eye of my shop assistant, I covered the back of a side of thinner black leather with self-adhesive felt sheets so that it does not rub or bleed dye into my armor: Then traced my updated template with white wax pencil: And cut out the new base layer with leather sheers and a ruler/razor blade for the straight lines: Working on the pie slices now, but here is a mockup of the first one, which I think was the major, valid point of feedback to be addressed - it's almost half the size of the previous one when set on top! More to come.
  22. Despite the obvious limitations of our reproduction materials and the fact that Disney clearly does not mind a seam, it has been discussed at length and current leadership is not open to moving this requirement from Basic to L2 EIB. Therefore this style cannot be replicated and you must fill your side and shoulder seams if you wish to have your kit approved. More discussion here:
  23. Please be aware that all current L2 and above armorers should have received their patches in person or via mail. Congratulations and thank you all for your contribution to the Detachment. I have sent the remaining 30 patches to the current FISD DMBO, @jsilvius, who has graciously offered to manage mailing them out to any future reward recipients. Please contact him/the current DMBO to request your 2 FREE patches (just pay shipping) once approved moving forward.
