Ha! Yeah... kids. Ah, the sniper knee. Less OCD and more patience would have helped me a lot - but that is not really my MO. I'm going to try to redo the sniper knee tonight. I was going to leave it alone, but I have to redo my shoulder bridges anyways, so will have a pot of boiling water on the go. I've accepted the fact that the sniper knee will sit crooked, but I do have to fix up a return edge or two that I messed up during my first attempt. Good luck on the shins! Your build is looking great so far.

Thanks. The wife took the kids to the grandparents for a few days - so I'm building every night from the time I get home from work till I fall asleep. It is glorious. I'm trying to finish up before they get home because, yeah, not having time to work this is frustrating.

Finally finished the back closures for the shins. Cut my 25mm cover strips, sand edges and rough up gluing areas. I marked the mid point because I cannot eyeball it. Add E6000 Clamps. Always the clamps. I bought 1” Velcro so I cut it in half. This is the left shin. Opening is facing inward and the soft half of the Velcro is facing towards the leg. I added a little E6000 but the adhesive on this industrial strength Velcro seems pretty strong on its own. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Touching up the helmet tonight. I had to touch up some paint and adjust the brow. I did the toothpick trick to clean up the outer edges of the black and then went in and added some grey to even out the black on the inside of traps and tears. Adding grey. Before After Fixing brow. Marked where brow originally sat. Took out the screws and rotated top back to where I wanted it. Marked the new spot and measured the difference. Then marked at the centre point of the helmet where I will trim. Used a straight piece of abs scrap to help draw line. Draw line So I chickened out while measuring and didn’t trim as much as planned. I could have gone higher, but this is better than what I had. After Before Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Like this I guess. In which case I answered my own question. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Okay then. Here is the follow up question. If I trim the brow straight across, I will risk having a gap in the area of the ear. Red circle. And the brow will not line up with the ridge that runs around the back - if that matters. So can I curve the cut so the brow is higher in the middle or front of the helmet and stays in the same place above the ears? You see this in ANH but I’m not sure if it is ok for centurion. As long as the left side and right side are symmetrical and the brow isn’t too high a la “move along” guy? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

yeah, I felt like I was pushing the limit there. I like the goofy high, curved brow look - but this means less trimming and I like that even more. On a separate note... Painting ear rank on ear bumps: I painted one stripe on the ear - but of course I like to find news ways to botch something, so I mistakenly painted the front bump when I meant to paint the rear bump (Guinness and painting don't mix - my lines are straighter but they tend to be in the wrong spot ). The rear bump is more commonly seen in the reference material (except for perhaps the sandtroopers - maybe?). CRL says nothing about which bump. Anyway, at first I was going to change it, then I thought it was a nice way to discreetly customize my bucket. Will this detail get frowned upon by fellow troopers?

Question. Is the brow too low for stunt? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Daniel, as I progress through this TK journey I've come to count on your sound and sage advice at almost every turn. All your guidance has been immeasurably helpful and utterly invaluable... except for that.

That's great news! Because if I had to ask my wife to sew one more thing for this endeavour, I'm pretty sure she would pack up the kids (and my RRSPs) and leave.

Thanks guys. I'm guessing I'll need to sew the velcro to the boot? Or will E6000 hold it?

hollowbodies' first build : ANH Stunt TK (AP)

Try TrooperBay on etsy (which I found via this site but I'm not sure if he has them for sale directly here). The link you found looks perfectly good too. I'm drawing a blank right now for others, but I'll let you know if I come across something. Maybe someone in the know will chime in. I too thought I needed a two piece suit. But after getting my armor on I realized that any convenience in having a two piece suit is pretty much moot - in the case of my armor anyways. -
hollowbodies' first build : ANH Stunt TK (AP)

Hey David. I ordered the Duofold as well, but I ordered the thermal shirt (not wicking). I'm not sure what the difference is, but in the images on Amazon, the one I ordered looked like it fit tighter - and for the most part it does. I'm fairly skinny and it fits fairly snug. Your other option is to look for a "compression" shirt (and pants if you can find them). I've looked a bit but the options for a totally black set on Amazon.ca is limited. Amazon.com has a few options the last time I looked - as long as they will ship to Canada. Failing that, there are some people on here who sell undersuits for troopers. -
Ha, thanks. Yeah, the wrists are a little on the large side - there was a balance of fitting it to my delicate little wrists and still being able to get my hand through the opening. I think once the gloves are on it isn't so bad, but I must admit it doesn't look good in the picture (I didn't notice that at all). I'll have to check it again when I have everything on. No apologies necessary! That is why I post.
-
Ha, yeah, all of the above. So, why a popper on the back and Velcro on the front? Does that make it easier for getting dressed? Thanks.

Did some more fitting. Had to finalize the thigh garter size. So I tried the shins on with the thighs. This is the first time I wore the legs - I foresee some trimming. I also checked how the shoulders worked out after I glued the straps to the top of the bell. The first thing I noticed is how the shins rotated on me. I did rig up a temporary stirrup on the left shin - it clearly didn’t do much. The boots will need some breaking in and the bottom of the shins will need some reshaping. Then I make better stirrups or use Velcro. Fit of shoulder. Snap bases for the thigh garter. They are about 6 inches from the top. I am using stainless steel snaps - they beat the hell out of my setting tool. Thigh garter. My soldering iron fell apart and my hole punch wasn’t working well, so I’m on round two of tools. They were pretty old, so any excuse to get new tools... . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Congrats on your BBB!! I have AP armor as well and I'm very happy with it. Yeah, this site is very helpful and there are many, very knowledgeable people who are more than willing to help you with your build... but the acronyms do take a while to sort out.
-
The only requirement at higher levels is the wrist side. Elbo doesn't matter, as you said it's more for comfort. Oh, I meant for the thighs. I didn't actually specify that in the post.
-
An excellent compromise!
-
I trimmed my upper edges - it was strongly recommended to me for comfort's sake and I believe it is screen accurate. Leave the lower edges alone. More importantly, from a guy who built much of his armor while dead tired - go to bed, sleep, build later. I've pulled apart my armor many times (more than I will ever admit) due to sleep-deprived stupidity.
