hollowbodies' first build : ANH Stunt TK (AP)
wook1138 replied to hollowbodies's topic in ANH Build Threads
I had the same issue. My hand barely makes it through the wrist opening and I don't have big meat hooks by any means. I have to put my gloves on after and feed the cuffs back into the armor. Anyways... you can make the cover-strips larger - from what I understand, it is about relative size - between the strips and the guy wearing the armor, and from cover-strip on one part to another. So if you make slightly larger strips for your arms - lets say 17 or 18mm, your thighs would be 24mm or so. Some people will make the back cover-strip a little larger than the front, so the front still looks more screen accurate. I believe that within reason, all this is approved at higher levels - no one breaks out a ruler on your armor. Maybe one of the pros (I'm looking at you, Daniel) can chime in. -

By the way, it is normal to have the pieces not line up. You’ll get used to forcing pieces to where you want them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Looks good. With the forearms you want the wrist lined up nice. The top is offset like you have. How wide are you cover strips going to be. Screen accurate is 15mm. You don’t have to do that exactly, I went with a little more than 15 and I had to trim some off the seams (from what Mark had trimmed). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Thigh ammo pack. I hot bathed this piece earlier just to make fitting easier. Just held the ammo pack up to the thigh and figured out the distance from the back return edge. I measured 6mm from the top edge. Drill hole and install split rivet with #6 washer Wrap ammo pack around to other side and marked hole. 6mm from top Install second rivet and I will add a couple drops of glue to hold ammo pack up to cover seam. Add some tape to hold and let dry. Much easier than that f&@$ing sniper knee. Oh sniper knee, I shalt maketh thee my bit... . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve seen builds where people have done that. I did test with a few extra pieces of abs in various spots but I didn’t see the benefit in my case. As for the front trimming, I trimmed to 20mm strip width - which is screen accurate. So I would expect things to line up the best they should. But would a wider front coverstrip edge work better? Maybe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for that Sean. You got a better fit for sure, but overall I’m not that far off. I’m a lot less worried about the alignment in the front. I might go for approval as is or adjust once I’ve got some higher priority tasks out of the way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That is exactly what I meant . Praetorian Guard would be awesome. My list includes sandtrooper, death trooper, and snowtrooper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's great! I thought I had read somewhere that you couldn't take a weathered TK to Centurion, but that level of weathering is exactly what I was thinking. He did a great job with that! Interesting... . This is never going to end, is it?

Congrats! I think most post their builds here: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/80-anh-build-threads/

Thanks Sean. I got the trimmed kit, so there isn't much room to round those corners (that is pretty much the way it came) - but I'll certainly see what I can do. I removed some return edge from the parts that wrap around the sides - there was extra material there and it was just getting in the way. It is interesting to see how the piece looks when not attached. How long did you keep it in the water each time? I suspect my lack of patience is getting the best of me.

Sniper knee plate - round one. Once the shin was sized, I tried to shape the knee plate to fit the shin. I already offset the shin halves so now it was time for hot water bath. After a lot of bathes and trying to shape it, I tried to glue. I was making things worse with the hot baths and gave up. I glued the front and right side first. I figured I could wrestle the left side later with the help of a heat gun It wasn’t looking too bad. After I glued the left side (it was more than 24 hours since gluing the front and right side), things began to shift. I’m kind of a coward when it comes to the heat gun so I don’t think it did much. When I forced the left side into place, the rest of the plate moved. Here is the result. My main concern is how it fits at the front. It is not centred and not fitted very well to the front of the shin. I think I will pull it apart and try again. I need another tube of E6000. That went fast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Trimming shins for size. The front got the standard 20mm coverstrip, so all the sizing is getting done on the back. Pretty straightforward. Did a fitting and figured the overlap. Top of shin. Bottom Measure overlap and divide by two. I always try to error on the large side, so I measure a little less than half. Apply to other side. Draw line and I cut with lexan scissors. Makes for a pretty clean cut. Shins are sized (slightly on large side, just in case). I will have to give the bottoms a hot bath to make the openings a bit more oval in shape. I think this is the right, my left shin is already a bit oval shaped. Then I tackled the sniper knee and everything went... not as smooth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There is something to be said for having the right tool for the job. $70 is a decent price for maintaining sanity.

Oh snaps. I had the same problem with the female ends, especially with elastic webbing for some reason. I found if you held the snap down tightly and guide the setting tool by letting it rest in your hand (unless you have three arms, then ignore), that it was less likely to bend the shaft. When I was firmly holding the setting tool and not really holding the snap, I couldn't tell when things were sitting flat in the anvil and I would bend the shaft after a few light hits with the hammer. I think I finally have it figured out - but I went through a lot of female snaps before getting there . The male end seems much easier for whatever reason. Anyway - you are not alone on your snap frustrations. I didn't even think to see if someone was selling these pre-made, so I have no idea about that.

Yeah, what Daniel said.

Oh yeah. I see. How did those guys walk around? Oh wait, they are just standing around getting berated . [emoji2] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Attaches the shoulder bell to the shoulder strap (connecting the chest to the back). It is what keeps your arms on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with how its coming together. Yeah, the sewing is a couple hours of time out of my wife's life that I will likely be paying for for years to come.

hollowbodies' first build : ANH Stunt TK (AP)

The hardest part was getting over how uneven the armor is and how things don't really line up or appear symmetrical. It was hard for my OCD to process. I did a lot of research before I started, and it all flew out the window when I went to fit and glue the first piece (forearm). So far, the most troublesome parts have been the right thigh (the front seam is curved a bit), the sniper knee plate (still working on that - I'll post what I did in my thread), and the fitting of the torso (the ab and kidney pieces are a bit big for me, so I had to improvise to make it look good). check out my build - It is a bit of a mess (I work on things when I can - I don't have much time so I always do a little here and a little there) but I have tried to include a lot of info (some good, some not so much ). If you have any questions, just ask! Enjoy the build - it can be frustrating at times, but when things start to come together (and they will) you won't be able to wipe the smile from your face. -
Sewing and fitting. I finally convinced my wife to do some sewing for me. I don’t sew and apparently our sewing machine is temperamental. We made the belt for the thigh garter and sewed the elastic loops. The shoulder straps were also sewed and snaps added. Sewed on the sew-on snaps for the shoulder bells. Fitting for the thigh garter. The thighs may be a bit high in the pic compared to where I want them. Garter Sewing the sew-on snaps. I’m gonna owe her big time for this. Positioning the snaps. 35mm from the edge and as close to the front as possible. Final fit check for the arms. Ignore the black series helmet - I’m still not done my bucket. My bicep was rotated a bit in this pic - partly fixed it for the other pics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ps. The yellow looks like a hero helmet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, the right side of the brow was a bit low. The brows are all over the place in the movie. The hero helmets were low, the stunt helmets were everywhere. I like the higher brow but I think the accepted is straight across and a few mm above the eyes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have the exact same kit. Getting started was hard. I too started with the forearms. That and the biceps were a good place to figure out the basics. And... congrats on starting the build! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
