  1. THX a lot!! I know there is still a lot of room for improvement and I will be doing some mods in this days. I really want to finish this project. But real life stuff has got on the way lately. Got new set of decals from Mike, and will be trying to apply them in a better way that they are now. Also, will be doing the weathering and aging soon. Thx for your comments! Hope this build is up to your expectations and make justice to such a great kit. Saludos
  2. Been working on my JoeR CfO ROTJ bucket for some time now with the intention of making it into the first SE TD bucket (just have the helmet). And after a few weeks (or more than a few) I finally have something worth to share. There is still a lot of work I will be doing on it, specially with the ear caps, but the main build is almost done and now I will go into weathering, detailing and aging. Just a few pictures here to share, and Anyone interested, there are a lot more pictures and descriptions in my thread over the MEPD... http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?showtopic=7944&st=40 What do you think? Saludos
  3. I used to have dreadlocks, 5 years long, and it was a big pain to troop with them. I put them into 2 buns and then around my head, Princess Leia style. Then used a Buff bandana around it all. Kept in place and was able to troop with an FX helmet and even once in a TE2 too. Very tight but possible. So if it worked for me, it can work for most long hair types. Saludos
  4. If you are building a TD, dont cut it off. That little strap and d rings is on the screen used one. For a HWT I guess it is a mater of likes. Saludos
  5. I am very interested in finding an answer for this question. So far I have concluded that they were glued together, and then a single rivet was used to attach the chin strap. But then, there are reference picts where there is no way a rivet was used... I am partially stuck in my build cause I don't know if I should add rivets or not. Either for the chin strap or the build itself. I really don't want to fix the ear caps until I am at least 99.99% sure I am doing it the right way. Saludos.
  6. Start by adding sand!! Then there is a list of mods to do to become a TD!! LOL!! No, I will let the TK experts assist you and will shut my mouth. Saludos
  7. I would just peel of the tape completely... sand a bit, repaint white... and then paint the vocoder and ears by hand with a brush. SaLudos
  8. Er... I am not a TK, but I think that many things that will come out of this could/should apply to the MEPD SWAT standards as well (and will eventually build an ANH TK too)... so, yes, I don't think decals can pass for snaps and rivets. MHO... Saludos
  9. Thx bro... I have actually reconsider and think I will be ordering sometime the regular white TKboots. Will leave the accurate look for the time I finally build my TK. At the moment, I will settle with the regular TKboots for my TD. Saluos.
  10. (This I posted at the MEPD and was suggested to bring it here, after a quick search and not much luck, I am posting here) Hey everybody... Just thinking about boots and well, came with this idea. Has anyone considered placing an order to lets say, TKBoots, but for black boots, and then painting them white? Is this even possible? This of course in order to have more accurate boots as the ones used on production during 1976. Any thoughts on this? Saludos.
  11. THX everybody for all the great help, references and info... Terry, I found the video you mentioned and have some screen grabs to share! This is great and very valuable info for this project!! Thx a lot. Now I will study this closely...
  12. Thx for all your replies... I spend good hours during the weekend trying to find more pictures from the special edition showing in detail the tds. I checked all my books, and graphic refernces, played the dvd in my comp and lcd tv and, and surfed the internet and well... The was no luck. I couldnt find any better reference. No behind the scenes picts or videos. No hi-res pictures others than the ones at looksirdroids.com. No better refence. Even watching the Dvd with zoom in ob an lcd screen showed no better detail. It is weird how the SE addesd scenes showing the new TDs are way worse regarding resolution and detailing thanthe ones originally shot back in 76. All the images are actually blury and dark. It looks like if they wanted to make them look bad on porpouse. So, one thing that I think is safe to assume, is that SE tds have black stripes over the gray tears. Unlike ANH tds. But, I dont feel confident enough to say that about the back traps. Ther is no picture I could find, even after photoshop, where the black stripes would appear. Weird. But weirder would be for the helmets to have only black stripes on the tears and not on the traps. So.... So far I have 3 questions: a 1. Are the SE td buckets a new production? Most seem to agree or know the fact that yes, SE td buckets were part of the ao called SE and Tour armor production run. 2. Are the SE td buckets completily shinny white ot just biscuit white as ROTJ lids? No idea yet. 3. Do SE td lids have black stripes over the grey tears and back traps? Im on that... So, if anyone has info or know facts or even referneces to answer this questions, it would be awesome!!! Thx a lot... Hope to find some more info about SE tds... Saludos Juan.
  13. I think some of them were, but at least two of the close up tds look real to me. But, i dont know for sure... Saludos.
  14. Hey everybody... Some of you might now me from the MEPD, or even here. I log in here quiet often but most of the time just keep reading and reading, since most of my prop/armor time I dedicate to Sandtroopers and the MEPD... Anyway, with the new CfO ROTJ bucket and armor, I am taking the task to research and hopefully put together one of the very first SE Sandtrooper lids at the MEPD. I've been reading lots of threads with very valuable info and discussions about ROTJ buckets and armor over here. And also, reading and re-reading and studying all the info and reference pictures at SWhelmets and Looksirdorids sites. I do have lots of info in my head that wasn't there a couple of weeks ago, but I still feel like I am very far from knowing at least the basic info I will need for this project. It seems that the SE TD is from a kind of costumes that no one really likes or even acknowledges. Yeah! I know... I am like that too. I love ANH buckets and for me, thats the way TDs and TKs should be... but, at the moment I am very interested and attracted to SE and ROTJ lids... anyway. I am starting this thread hoping to open a discussion about SE TDS and their relation to ROTJ TKs. So, here is my first question: Does anyone know if the SE TD buckets were actually just weathered ROTJ buckets, or were they part of the SE and Tour armor production? I read in a few places that SE buckets were from a different-later batch than ROTJ, but cant find any info specific about SE TDs. and... If they were from a new production run, I am assuming they are actually white, and not off-white like ROTJ... Just can´t tell for sure from pictures. Thanks for any help here. I will keep reading and researching too, btw. Saludos.
  15. This is interesting, and delicate at least. I remember a few years back in my first troops that we were just like anyone else, just with great costumes. We paid for our tickets, we just wander around the con floors and that was it. We changed on the parking lot or wherever we could and even if we entered marching, it was because we wanted to do it. Then organizers started to request our presence and started giving us free entrance, then a small table in the corner, and now at the biggest con in Mexico we have the biggest stand for free. There have been some other events where we even get presents like action figures and stuff. There has been a debate whether we should accept those presents, or give them to charity or what. No much agreed on that side to date. Anyway, I do think that if our presence is requested, we should not pay for trooping, expect at least a few water bottles and a safe place to change and keep our stuff. Yes, we are geeks on cool costumes, but we also attract lots of ppl paying lots of money. I also think that even if we should expect a few things from the organizers like I mentioned, we should not go as far as asking for free tickets for us and our families, lunch, paid parking spaces (there is practically no free parking in Mexico City), a stand, and other stuff. I mention this cause over my Garrison, ppl think that we should ask for all that and more, conditioning our presence to having all that stuff. I mean, we can take it if offered, but I wouldn't go as far as asking for all that as a must have. There have been times that big events, like Adidas ESB collection event, where they fly ppl from all over the country, pay for tickets, accommodation, food, and other stuff. But that is only with Adidas, Hasbro, not even with LFL, not yet. HEHEHE.. So. No paying to troop when requested. But not expecting to be paid for expenses either. Thats MHO. Saludos.
  16. THX bro!! It was a lot of fun building it... I emjoyed it a lot. Pls let us posted about your STS project... Hope it comes out great. Saludos.
  17. This is it... 98% finished. Just need to add the maple leaf foam inside and ready for display... Here are a few photos side by side with the real Move Along bucket. And here it is as I will display it: What do you think? I like it a lot! Saludos.
  18. THX a lot Rob... I will be uploading pictures of the 98% finished bucket tomorrow. Almost there. Saludos.
  19. ¡Muy buena idea! ¡¡Felicidades!! Seguro esto ayudará mucho a que otros troopers hispanohablantes se unan al foro. Gracias. Saludos. Juan
  20. Just to share with you my almost finshed bucket. I had all the vents and traps, frown, vocoder and tube stripes painted by hand. Also made some aging/weathering with white paint over gray, blue and black... and finally added the film gel lenses, the hovis and the neck trim... Still to go, I need to get the accurate eyebrow and neck trim, maple leaf foam, chin elastic and weathering. So far, what do you think? Saludos
  21. MMM... have no idea. Will check later tonite. I guess it is only water based, but it does smells funny. Anyway, I think it is not really latex, but a paint with latex used by artists to mask over paper, plastic and other meterials. Got it from an art store. I'll come back later and let you know. THX... Saludos
  22. Already handpainted the vents and frown with testors 1138 and satin black... This is just a little teaser (phone pictures), as I have not been able to take proper pictures. Saludos.
  23. I just used a marker to paint them on. They are supposed to simulate repaired cracks on the plastic. I didnt want to go as far as breaking the helmet for real. HEHEHE... maybe next time. Check this out: Thx bro! Saludos.
