  1. Usually wear a US 10, got their 9 1/2 / UK 44 and they are perfect.
  2. I think they look great, Andy! I bought the same Shires boots and finished them last weekend, but I used Meltonian Nu-Life Color Preparer and White Color Spray: --------- For the elastic, I actually used the cheap white acrylic paint you get in the craft section of Walmart and just worked it in. Takes quite a bit, but then it gets the desired effect. Not unlike weathering Fett CABoots, but without the diluting. Look forward to seeing more progress! Chris
  3. There's a shorter trooper looking for armor (xxcombzxx) who might be willing to take those thighs off your hands. As for the helmet, did you try adding a little more padding to the top? You can either strip the padding from a child's t-ball helmet or get foam cushion for WalMart and then use an X-Acto knife or sharp scissors to trim a large piece for the crown of the helmet and shave it down to about 1/2" thick or so. That should still allow you to see out of the lenses and give you a little more clearance. -C
  4. I tend to agree with Mark, having seen a couple of troopers in the 5'3"-5'6" dwarfed by their FX helmets before. You'll probably be much better off modifying an MRCE or getting an AP seconds bucket and then utilizing the myriad of resources available here for putting it together and making it look good. Good luck! C
  5. I went ahead and did my boots this weekend, and I think they look great! I'm out of town today but will try to post photos this week. Used the Meltonian Color Preparer and really took off all the outer coating and even some of the black dye until they were a nice flat matte black. Put three light coats of the white Nu-Life color spray on and they look terrific. It doesn't dye the elastic much, so I rubbed several coats of el-cheapo white acrylic craft paint from Wal Mart into the elastic to get that closer to white. Will they scuff up eventually? Sure. That's why I have a second can of color spray -- for touchups along the line. But they look like the real thing to me! -Chris
  6. Full suits, too. The molds just aren't quite finished yet. You'll probably see the build threads start popping up around July or August, hopefully.
  7. I think it's the assembly, Pablo. Take a look at what it looks like when Ghost on MEPD reassembled it (Post #12) and imagine the ears a little thinner. http://forum.dirtyarmor.net/index.php?show...amp;#entry66538 Notice the difference in his before and after? It starts to look a lot more like what you might be accustomed to -- keeping in mind that we are much more used to seeing the Brian R family of helmets (versus the Dave M - the basis for this helmet), in general. But, yeah... the problem with what I've seen in the preassembled DLs is that the faceplate needs to be shifted so that the bottom tubes go about 1/2 an inch or so further back into the back and cap piece. Personally, I'll be psyched to get mine, even if it does mean a little time with the drill and Dremel to adjust it.
  8. FYI - I spoke to Dan today and it looks like he'll be ready late next month at earliest. Still working on the back and ab/cod molds.
  9. Heehee...you made a punny.
  10. Someone who appreciates "maximum confortability" (sic)??
  11. Kev, haven't gotten around to dyeing mine yet, but this is what I plan on using: ----- in #617 White -- pretty sure that's the stuff to use. -C
  12. Awww....man! You just trademarked the name "Paul"??? Guess I'll need to take it off the future baby names list or pay you royalties until he's 21.
  13. Yeah...you really owe it to yourself, since everything else is just so spot on, to dye some real jodhpurs. Absolutely stunning, Pablo. Exactly what someone like me would aspire to! Fantastic job! Now, if I can only get Paul/TM to write me back... lol
  14. POSSIBLE SPOILERS -- BE WARNED: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . But if you think about the plot of the movie, he probably has the most latitude to go for something different from Shatner. After all, the beginning of the movie likely affects him the most. We never get to see the young Shatner Kirk because the timeline of that character has been so drastically altered. The Shatner Kirk would have been raised by his father, who was a model officer, and been motivated by him to join Starfleet. The Pine Kirk was raised by a stepfather, was clearly even more rebellious (than say Shatner's Kirk) as a result, and turned out very differently -- including his attitude towards Starfleet. He still had the charm and the smarm, so I liked it. And as someone who was raised by an asshat stepfather myself, I can vouch for the difference that can make in someone's attitudes and upbringing. lol Fortunately, I turned out okay, too.
  15. Where do you peeps find this "aluminum stock" or aluminum bar? Which hardware stores? I asked at Home Depot if they had any and they looked at me like "huh?" I can find flashing easily, but a bar for a scope rail or for detonator clips seems more elusive. -C
  16. u need m0r h3lmutz. and i must haz belt. <3 Chris
  17. Would be nice if there were pictures out of the box, but they look about right.
  18. Eeek! I'd say skip them because of the stitching (inaccurate), the elastic not being low enough, and the tread on the bottom. Unless you see something much better pop up on eBay (and I just searched and couldn't find any that looked right that were less than $60-70, e.g. the Loakes), I'd suggest you just get the Shires from Barnstormers in my link. They're $36 plus shipping and you'll know what you're getting. -C
  19. FYI -- Pretty sure two PMs I sent last night (one to Mr. Laws and one to Troopermaster) and had clicked both boxes for did not, in fact, save, so there may be an issue.
  20. Paint it at the same time. BTW -- just got motivated by your thread and picked up these: --------
  21. I'd say those look like pretty good candidates. Certainly 501st, and almost certainly EIB, approved once you dye/paint them white. Look for jodhpur or chelsea boots with the elastic on the sides. I have Shires Woodstock Jodphpurs in black that I am going to make white at some point. I'm pretty sure Daetrin has the same (if not a few other members, as well). They are not much different from the ones you listed: --------- Good luck! Chris
  22. Haha...same here. Without any weathering, I thought it was a really nice action figure. Then I saw the door in the background. Nice job!
  23. I don't think CABoots are unique in that regard. I bought a pair of black patent leather oxfords from Payless for a show I was doing and they smelled awful right out of the box. I put them away and I kinda forgot about it. A day later, while I was breaking them in, I was sitting in my office and was convinced someone was tarring a roof nearby, that I had somehow spilled gasoline on my hands, or that my desktop was about to catch fire. I could not for the life of me place the smell and it was driving me crazy. I was sniffing around the room like my dog -- trying to place the smell. Then I noticed I was wearing the shoes. I picked up the box they had come in and...WHEW!!! Did it stink! Must be some kind of treatment they put on them to give them that mirror finish.
