  1. me too.
  2. Thanks paul. I do my best
  3. The difference between TE and FX? No comarison. Besides the fact that TE is HIPS, as we all know, yhe TE requires a lot of work to get it trooping. Sanding, heating, forming, filling, cutting, gluing painting. I like the look of it. It's the closest I've seen to troopers in the movie. Paul tried it at our local armor party and it looked good. Paul can speak for himself what he thinks of my armory skills.

I made lens holders that seem to work very well for me. The lenses can be easily replaced if need be. I used epoxy paste to build up the frame for my lenses. Popped them out and sanded them I cut a gasket out of styrene and painted it red, and punched screw holes in it. Screws and gasket hold the lens down. Just glue the frame in place.

  6. Thanks:)
  7. Came with the TK parts. The part with the row of buttons can be cut out as a strip, or the buttons can be cut out individualy. I'm talking about the buttons on the (wearers) left side.
  8. I need help deciding on how to do the buttons. I've already done the ab plate, but havent decided how to do the strip of buttons next to it. Are the buttons cut out individualy and glued on, or are they cut out in a strip and glued on? Or both? Thanks.
  9. I use a dremmel to get the big stuff out of the way, then a file. A small round file works to get in the corners of the eyes. A sanding sponge is good for finish. As far as the frown goes, what 8280 did seems to be the best way. Go slow and have fun:)
  10. I go with paint.
  11. We have OSHA to thank for that. something about chemical protection or some such crap
  12. Score and snap it in half. This will give you two clips. The notches allow your liner to snap in and out. Score a 3/4 inch slot and snap it out with pliars
  13. I wanted to install an industrial hard hat liner in my bucket, but could not find the clips to do so. I had planned on cutting the clips out of the hard hat, but soon learned that nothing will adhere to hard hat plastic. So I came up with a way to make clips quick and easy with scraps of styrene. An industrial hardhat liner can be found at Home Depot for about $12.00 Two pieces of scrap styrene aproximately 4x8 inches, riveted at one end with a square hole 1-1/8 x 1-7/16 inches The square form is built up from 3 pieces of styrene With two notches cut out on both sides. The 'square' is one and a half by five sixteenths (inches) All the liners I have found seem to come standard, fitting the same sized clip. Note; The notches are cut on the longer 1-1/2 inch side Toss a scrap of styrene in the oven set at 275 degrees. Once your plastic is soft you need to work quick. stick it in your gadget and press hard. Make sure to press down the notches to get a good deep impression. continue to press while you let cool.
  14. Good idea. I have my eye out for a black military vinyl duffle bag. I have a large piece of PVC pipe two feet in diameter that I'm wanting to use to line it. That way I'll have a place to display my patch collection

Looks like Rhino Liner is out of the question. I spoke with someone at the company in regaurds to the properties of their liner, and learned that Rhino Liner heats up to 250 degrees when in contact with aplied catalyst. Not good for ABS or styrene. All you would have is a puddle On a good note, the Duplicolor bed liner will work pretty well. I used both the spray and roll on kind. The roll on has a higher level of keytone, so it's best to spray (lightly) a couple cotes, then roll it on for thickness. When I got home from portland last night I found that it hardened back up very nicely. I was worried for a minute.
  16. I must admit, I haven't spent that mutch time hear lately. Lots going on in the outside. Not to mention that I had to drive a long way during the power outage to get on line.

In case anyone is going to try a bed liner product, I've been experimenting a little with liners. The spray on kind sucks. The brush on kind works, but is very hot on the plastic. It breaks down ABS and HIPS<_< I don't know yet if the efected layer will harden back up yet. I'll give it a couple days drying time and check to see. Don't know what the actual Rhino Liner is made of, so I don't know if it will work the same. Trial and error
  18. Yes, just one layer, The double layer you see is where the two ends are sewn togeather. I think you will love this mod. The 'V' in the front is made with two inch elastic. It keeps your thighs from turning in or out. Hope this helps. Wyatt.
  19. I'm bout 5-10 as well. I trimmed my armor after each troop untill I had it dialed in. Fits good now. The Chest and back can be trimmed from the top to get it a little higher and tighter fit.

You're right Jim. In fact I used it in my FX bucket. Great liner, but not much in the way of making a bucket more solid. Great for acustic deadening though. The bigest drawback is that if you need to pull out velcro or hot glue, it pulls the rubber out with it. The helpful hardware guy at Ace told me that they also make a rattlecan liner as well, though I don't know how good it is. I can't imagine that it would be viscous enough coming out of a spray can. I think I'll just bite the bullet and get the real Rhino liner. The stuff is exelent. My father in law had his truck bed Rhino Lined and you can't scratch it. I'll post if it works.

Rhino lining is a fibered tefflon coating that's applied with a hopper, kind of like drywall mud. They have a Rhino lining substitute at wally world. $50 for a gallon can. Don't know what I would do with the rest of it though. Maybe do up some buckets?

I got my kit yesterday Very nice kit. A lot like the FX. I like the fact that the eyes are not cut out. I always like my own cut lines better. I won't get to work on it for a while yet, but I have the gist of how I'm going to do it. I'm getting the inside of this one Rhino Lined to make it a little bit more durable. I bought just the five basic pieces for the bucket, no directions, decals or lenses. It will give me a little more to do, and I saved money on the stuff that I realy don't use. I'm considering a whole set of this stuff, but I want to see it first. Other than the bucket, the FX armor suits me fine.
  23. I guess I'm lucky that way. When I get mobbed by fems it makes me feel good, and my wife gets a kick out of it. She's fine with it cause she knows where this troopr is bunking.
  24. Yeah, I'll have to agree with Paul. I like the look of the bubble lenses, but I trooped with them twice and got rid of them. I couldn't see out of them for crap, and Ithey gave me a killer headache. I've heard the bubble lenses called 'hero lenses' on several occations, but I do believe some of the TK's in ROTJ had bubble lenses.
