AP Helmet Eye and mouth cut outs help
Scimitar replied to mjrose927's topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
From your picture it looks like you still have material left to remove if you want. If you'll notice from the inside view of my helmet I removed the plastic from the openings until it was gone/level with the frown itself. Larger openings for a bit more venting, at least that was my reasoning. lol But if you're happy with them as they are now, you can use hobby files (that's what I did, mine came from Hobby Lobby) or an Exacto as Mark suggests to square everything up. -

You're going to be encouraged by many (including me) to go for Centurion if you're already aiming for EIB. It's really not a big step past EIB and the AP kit makes it very easy to achieve. To answer your question, you can use the provided U-type trim for the helmet opening for basic and EIB levels, but for Centurion you need the S-type trim as found here: https://trooperbay.com/trooper-helmet-s-neck-trim -
AP Helmet Eye and mouth cut outs help

If you're comfortable using a Dremel, that's the easiest/fastest way to get it done. Otherwise, cutting and filing by hand is the other way to go about it. This is my AP faceplate after I got done trimming the teeth and eyes with a Dremel, I did use a small file (from the inside) to clean up the corners of the teeth : -
ANOVOS (DENUO NOVO) FOTK Armor Delivery Possibility
Scimitar replied to JonnieBear's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
Right, but again that's not what we agreed to when we ordered, we agreed to being able to request/receive a refund at any time up until the pre-order shipped. It's quite dishonest to take someone's money under one agreement and then suddenly change the rules, leaving the customer with no choice or recourse. I decided a long time ago to ride my pre-order out but this change stinks for anyone else who gets fed up with the wait from this point forward. Of course, it's not like they were actively giving refunds anyway, so not much is really changing. lol -
ANOVOS (DENUO NOVO) FOTK Armor Delivery Possibility
Scimitar replied to JonnieBear's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
Correct, no disagreement there. My original point was that their wording states that if you ordered anytime prior to today and don't already have an open support ticket for a refund before today, you're basically locked in for the ride now with no refund option (even if they say they might review a refund request). Which wasn't the current agreement when the order was placed. So it's either bad wording on their part or they're trying to be sneaky with the wording to avoid any new refund requests on old orders from people who are fed up with waiting. -

I'm aware, but their use of the words "existing" and "prior" 100% contradicts the first line. -

Sounds like the wording goes as far to state no refunds on orders made previous to today too. "We will continue to honor any existing refund requests made prior to this policy change as business permits." -
Trimming may never end... But I did finish the helmet!

Well at this rate I won't expect to see my kit for a while I suppose, I ordered on May 4, 2017. -
Thanks Lou!

Still just trimming parts as time allows. I did go ahead and coat the interior of the helmet with Plastidip so it will have time to cure and stop smelling. Like my own TK bucket I gave the finish a rough texture, this helps with any adhesion needs. I also painted the frown & vocoder and installed the hovi tips:

Continuing on, I've been trimming parts where possible, except where needed for sizing purposes. Got the torso all cleaned up: Decided to attempt assembling the front of one shin. On my first round I was fitting the pieces together using tape, I taped the inner cover strip to one side: And then I taped on the other side and checked for gaps, sanding/dremeling where necessary to get an even, straight line: However, what I recommend for test fitting these parts instead of just tape is using the clamps and magnets that you'll be using during the gluing process, the fit between the two methods is quite different. Below is the final joint on this shin, you can see at the very top that the gap opens up just a bit. It was a perfect fit with tape, thus my suggestion, but fortunately it will be hidden by the knee.

Thanks Daniel! Trust me, I know! This is one of three costumes she has in the works right now, but it is the only armor. Got the lenses trimmed and installed last night:

Right ear is now done. Following the drill guides in the helmet would have resulted in a large gap as it placed the ear too high on the helmet to meet the tube properly. So I held the ear in place to reduce the gap and marked my own drill holes. It did drop the top of the ear away from the brow trim but the ears were trimmed according to their trim outlines, so it might be wise to leave a little extra material/flare on the ears. I accepted the asymmetry with my own TK so I'm ok seeing it here too. I also went ahead and fit the neck trim and next I'll be fitting the lenses. Then it all comes apart to paint the inside & outside of the helmet.

Good luck brother! Georgia Garrison Centurion #10 coming soon! -
So after attending and handling a handful of troops with me, my wife quickly got the trooper bug. We went through some options and ultimately landed on the Legacy TK but she thought we'd have to wait for a bit to order her kit. I told her we could at least order her boots first, little did she know I had ordered the kit pretty much as soon as she firmly decided on a Legacy. The boots arrived quickly from Imperial Boots: And then the BBB surprise: We quickly dived into pretrimming the kit and I started on some finishing work on the helmet, for some reason I really enjoy starting builds with the helmet. Frown trimmed: And then eyes: Then I started with fitting the left ear. Following the guides/dimples in the helmet for the screw placement resulted in the lower screw landing in mostly dead space, like so: So I clamped the ear down and drilled a new hole that caught both sections of the helmet. And then trimmed off the excess ear piece: One ear down: The goal is to have this kit done for MegaCon at the end of May, so we'll see!

I'd personally spend a little more and get a finished E-11 from Praetorian Blasters. As an added benefit, you'd get it pretty quickly from Praetorian, unlike Anovos.

I've got two 40mm fans as well, running off a 4AA battery pack (which makes the fans run a bit faster/ louder than they would on a USB pack), and I can hear most everything around me just fine. I also have Tony's hearing assist system but I've not been using it as the vibration of the fans resonate through the helmet and the hearing assist mics picks that up, so it's just a constant, loud buzz, which renders the hearing assist almost useless. I need to isolate the fans some to reduce that noise, then it should be just fine.

Congrats on EIB! On to Centurion! If I recall correctly from his build thread they're ukswrath hovi speakers (they also look just like mine, so I think that they are). I found it odd because as far as I know they've never been called out as an issue for L3 approval in the past. Prior to taking them apart I would suggest asking for clarification on that aspect as they might be damaged by opening them up.

Understood, thank you for laying that out Dan. Just trying to make sure I'm providing everyone with a thorough application packet of pictures!
