  1. My desktop is nothign special, two moniters and a 1TB external are all i can really brag about.... though to many here i bet thats hardly bragging! So i told my parents my decision and they're a little concerned that since i have never been to a trooping event before i might build the TK and then have it laying around in my room. Not that they really have much say in the matter, but it kinda sucks they really don't know me enough to know this is one thing i REALLY want to do, no matter what the cost or time it takes me to get there.
  2. Haha, yeah. As pricey as they may be i was looking at the Dell XPS models. My cover story is i need it for school (which i really will next september....debatable if i need it now). But, a big thing to me is games... I know just how well laptops perform in this area so i was looking into something with a little horse power. Then i saw that AP isn't exactly cheap either. I am pretty sold on the laptop i have found. I'd show you, but its one you build on their site. 350GB hard drive (in addition to my 1TB external) 2.7 GhZ dual core processor, 6GB of RAM and a 15inch screen so its not TOO huge Not to mention 512MB GeForce 8600 video card. By the time i can really justify calling it something i need i think it'll be much more affordable and still pretty darn good. Where as a TK can keep me quite entertained while i get it ready for a summer of (hopefully) trooping!
  3. Yeah, i feel like i've picked something pretty responsible to do. Its kinda tough not getting something you've always wanted, but at the same time i'd rather wait and get a better one. Plus i don't know how long i could go, scanning the boards every night with no hope of getting an armor kit myself for another year.
  4. Well, especially with the first semester its only necessary that you have a home computer so you can do homework. The second semester is supposed to be a bit of a different story (but the second wont start till next september), so i am thinking that i can go for AP now Then get a better computer than what i am currently looking at when the real need arises.... as for now it'd be more of a conveniance as opposed to a need to have it. Also! Something i might spend $1800 on now just might be $1200 or so down the road a bit (Plus i was thinking i can take my little external hard drive in my school bag with me and actually install the needed software on it for classes so i don't even have to transfer the data, just the physical device). I was looking to spend about $2000 on a computer MAX to get the kind of performance i'd want. (keep in mind thats canadian pennys ). So AP for now to keep my busy/sane through the school year and maaaybe if i am lucky i can get a troop or two in! Although i've looked through the records of the closest garrison to me (Badlands garrison, i live just out of Edmonton, Alberta) and they seem to rarely troop compared to others i've heard of, and at that its usually in Calgary which would be a bit much for a busy guy like me to make it there and back in a day....VERY tough to do. Thats something i am really concerned about is not getting a chance to do a lot of troops. And by the way thank you for all the opinions and help i really thought this would be something doomed to hit the bottom of the forum within a day or two.
  5. So FISD.... I have a problem! I finally have enough saved up to buy my first set of armour (decided on AP). BUT, i am also starting my first semester of college in january. My school is paid off, i have the money to pay my parents for my car and insurence right this second in addition to paypal being filled up and ready to get me some AP! Anyway, the problem is for school i am going into a fairly intense computers course and it is highly recommended you have a laptop. I have ALWAYS wanted a performance laptop (because not just any old one will do) but i can't quite afford the laptop and the TK its not NEEDED to have a laptop for the course but its something i want.... TK is not needed but its something i want more than a laptop! But a laptop is more practical. So here i come to you searching wisdom to help me make my decision. Opinions?
  6. Similar question, my friend is looking for an armor for a taller guy. I've heard that RT-MOD is made for larger build people and even still more accurate than FX but he is still fairly slim, should i recommend RT to him or force him into AP like me? But as to not take over your thread here, from the research i have done (especially hard never seeing an RT-MOD in person) i think that for your size if anything it'll fit better than a TE2 or AP would off the bat, as they seem to be more suited for sticks like myself. That being said of course, i'm sure you can modify just about any armor to fit you with enough time, skill, and patients! But again thats really just an educated guess so i'll step aside and let some pro's say somethin a bit more useful
  7. Thats where i got mine, slow shipping to canada but seems to be one of the better prices around!
  8. more! well i guess only one more, because i am having issues with my pictures
  9. Okay here they are! i can't really give a very accurate opinion of how hot it is because as of now its all i have (getting AP in january after i pay off for school!!!!) anyway feel free to ignore the tape holding part of the lenses and frown mesh in! But as you can see it isn't noticable by any means from the outside buuuut even gutted as it is, you can see it still doesn't look too pretty. But its very comfortable
  10. i did end up getting it, it most definitly is designed for FX and was extremely hard to fit in properly soooo i ended up gutting it and making it fit how i wanted.... and now i love it i even used a piece of the scraps i cut off for a nose cushion. I'll take some pics and post them up sometime soon!
  11. Hey! fellow skinny-man here! So i would say FX is out of the question for someone our size (i am just under 6 feet, and only 130lbs-ish of meat on me). The people i have all talked to have suggested AP or TE2 above all else..... keep in mind that the two are NOT cheap, but i am taking my time and saving up as opposed to blowing my budget on something that will be a near impossible task of shimming and modding to make it just right for me, i am really not the handy-man type so all this cutting and attaching is very complex in my mind. Also, just a side note... for a fee you can get the nice people who make AP to assemble the armor for you before shipment, its something like $100 - $200 more for labor. But, depending on how good you are with a set of tools it MIGHT be worth it. But if its a must, i have seen successful builds of FX on smaller frame guys.... but it'll take a whole lot of work for something you may want to trade out for a more accurate armour anyway, then again this is a hobby and who doesn't love experiance!! Brad
  12. Thank you Very helpful and i will try this all out when i am get home later tonight! Brad
  13. Yes! it is an MRCE. light buld eh? pretty clever is it better to heat it from the inside or outside of the helmet? Thanks! Brad
  14. So, i am just waiting on paypal to transfer funds so i can pay stomper for some Speaker-Hovis he has all ready to go for me =) BUT! does anyone know of a good (preferable non-power tool) way of removing the Non-Speaker-Hovis? I want to do it as easy and clean as possible and figured i'd better figure it out now.... rather than when they get here an i jump the gun in the excitement and mess something up ~Brad
  15. Hey, i found this! -------- I like the fact that it appears as though the hood is full all over your head so even if you take your bucket off you're still a faceless soldier (not to mention the free option for a pee zipper )! ~Brad
  16. Yeah, i'm in the same boat.... I don't feel like anything i say will have nearly the meaning i'd like to have! But we're here for you, for anything you need.
  17. I think this thread needs a bump! After all who wouldn't want trooper undies
  18. Speaking as one with no experiance.....i like it ~ Brad
  19. Did you manage to fix it? If so, how? i havn't had time to look into repair supplies but i'm planning to this weekend
  20. haha well thats what i'll have to do if nothing easily fixes it but i'm not too worried, its pretty tiny
  21. Haha well either way i'd like to fix it!!! its for sure just a surface scratch but i havn't the slightest clue what to do..... never done a thing like this before and this is the first and only part of my armour in progress that i have so far so i have no experiance fixing things or anything along those lines! Also you'll notice that with the MRCE bucket it has a clear line where the part under the frown is attached, is there any way to smooth that up in an easy way that requires no prior experiance? ~Brad
  22. Yeah, its more of a scratch. You can only see it from the outside and by no means is deep enough to break the helmet or anything crazy, just annoying really
  23. So today is my day off work and to be honest i was watching the new animated clone wars show on my computer with my bucket on but thats beside the point! i took it off to go get a snack and when i came back and looked at it on the table i noticed it has a little crack on the top!!!!! i don't think it came like that bit its kinda hard to notice unless you really look, so it may have. whats the best method for fixing this? Or should i just leave it as not many people will be looking at the top of my head anyway? personally its going to bug the crap out of me but i can live with it if its not going to get worse.
  24. I actually just got mine not even a week ago and i LOVE it, and yes you can see it....only problem is with the lenses that come standard others can see you lookin at them. It 100% needs at least something to be put inside in terms of padding because what comes on it would only work if you have an abnormally huge head. But for about $40 you can pretty well have padding and lenses sent right to you from some guys on the boards. I think its great for the price it is, but if you want something more accurate you'll have to dish out the cash and probably do some work assembling it as well (MR comes fully made and ready). Anyway thats just my opinion/experiance, best of luck dude ~Brad
  25. Hey, i am a fellow noob in fact the first part of my armor arrived just 2 days ago (my helmet, so proudly displayed in my picture ) i suggest you go the route i did! Like you i am not too handy, but i've learned from all the tutorials and posts that if followed step by step you really can do it. What i did is get the MRCE helmet just off your local auction site ; ) and am soon looking into getting an FX lite kit. Its supposed to be fairly simple/straight forward to assemble and honestly i'd rather have something that i feel like i built myself to fit me! Plus this way you save a lot of $$ on labour and don't have to worry about it being fitted for someone else (not to mention you learn about the hobby more and more, may come in handy if you need to do any repairs). But the number one thing to remember is that no matter what you do with your armour this lovely community is behind you 100% and ready to help with anything from assembly to little tricks of the trade to give it just the right fit! But main reason for the attraction to the FX kits is they are the biggest bang for your buck if you're going for a kit thats more friendly to your wallet but still has at least some accuracy, like the MRCE helmet its not the best around but its the perfect starter set and gets you the know-how you need to either mod it or purchase a more accurate kit when you're all done! here is a pic of the same helmet i have (its not the most accurate around but it can be modded to be pretty impressive): ------- and here is a link to the FX lite kit: ---------- As for the underarmor and gloves, boots etc. you're pretty well on your own! but even just scanning the boards you'll find you can get all the info for it right here or even from some guys who will supply it to you for a few bucks. ~Brad
