  1. Can't wait to see what you come up with. That pack looks really cool.
  2. Nice! That looks textured like what I got at TAP as well. Different thicknesses too is a plus. I've been getting my white ABS from Amazon, should have looked for black. Though the .060 I got at TAP (.060 is the thinnest they have) was around $30 for a 48" x 96" sheet.
  3. I got the cups at the local dollar store (Dollar Tree) and my black ABS from TAP Plastics. TAP has stores in CA I believe, but not sure if they're close to you or not. I like their ABS because it has a cool pattern on one side so I'll hopefully get a neat effect from it. I've gone up and down the isles of all of my local grocery stores measuring lids (much to the dismay of onlookers, lol) and couldn't find any lids/caps that are 2.25" in diameter. Tons of 2.0" and a few 2.5" but that's it. I think the 2.0" caps look nice in the template I made for my photobox faceplate so I'm just going to go with that size. I'm going to use perscription bottle lids since they are slightly thicker and have deep grooves on the edges that I think will look better after paint. I might also glue a 1.75" cap from Pure Leaf iced tea bottles on top of the perscription lids to give it more character. Or I might fashion a flat ring (or find a big washer) to add to the lid instead so it matches the CRL photo better. The 2.25" lids look a little cramped and the 2.5" are definitely cramped with the way I drew up my faceplate, but I could always adjust the sections to accommodate I guess. If 2.5" works for you I found almond/peanut/etc. jars with great lids at many stores.
  4. Me? Surfing at work? lol... And yup, that was it, duh. Can you tell I'm the IT guy at work? *sigh* Very nice diagrams, btw. I had wondered about the same things and you detailed them perfectly. Can't wait to see your finished pack!
  5. I struggled with the same dimension discrepancies too and altered them to what looked good to me. I made templates for everything in photoshop to help me work it all out. I'll be posting what I did when I get to the point of cutting & gluing. I'm very interested in what you come up with. I was toying with the idea of just making a pack per the guide to get approved and then going back and making a more screen-accurate version later. Of course that costs twice as much. Keep up the great work! And I can't see any of your pictures. Anyone else have that problem?
  6. Small update...based on feedback from justjoseph63 I've replaced the thin red cup with a thicker tumbler: And my cone template experiment worked out beautifully: I also bought another sheet of black ABS for my box faceplates (instead of artboard) and I think I'm going to use thicker ABS instead of the sign material for the back of the boxes so there's more material for the dry wall screws to grab onto. I've also ordered one of the thicker oil pans to see if I like the look of it better when I get to the assembly stage. Lastly, I realized I didn't include my non-pack items in my first post so here's some other goodies I've acquired. I'll be replacing the canvas ammo pouch with a third leather one soon so they match better. I mistakenly went off of the TD requirements instead of looking at the HWT...oops!
  7. I'm interested to see what you come up with for boxes. I like the metal radio box idea a lot. The more I get into working on my pack the more questions I have about everything, so I'm going slower and slower too.
  8. Well, here I go...first build thread ever, heh. I took a bunch of pictures when I put my Anovos kit together but didn't really feel I brought anything new to the table so I never made a thread. I pretty much followed ukswrath's build exactly to build my TK, and I'll be doing that again for my HWT pack: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/30034-hwt-backpack-build-part-1/ I've been scouring all the other build threads I've found here and jotted down some other great ideas so hopefully I can pull this off. I bought one of those cool HWT patches so now I need to earn it. Thanks to everyone for sharing their builds and ideas and giving such great advice! I'm sure I'll need even more advice before I'm through. I guess I'll start with what I've done over the last few months while I researched everything...I bought lots of supplies and materials: I've made a few templates to help me cut out things like the faceplates and pestered Tony with a multitude of questions so I guess I'm finally ready to get things started. More to come soon!
  9. Looking good! Where did you get your new 'cone' piece? I'm really liking that idea instead of rolling up a for sale sign.
  10. Oops...looks like I forgot to make my post! I think I tried to a while back but didn't have enough posts yet so I couldn't and forgot to circle back. If Only You Knew: - Use E6000! I was impatient and used CA glue for everything, with mixed results. I'm building another Anovos kit and will take my time and use E6000 for everything. I may still use CA for inner cover strips and the like, but not for the majority. Oops!: - See above, lol. If nothing else, I have some of my battle damage/weathering for my HWT/TD already started, haha. A funny thing happened on my way to the Death Star: - Nothing too crazy happened while I was building. Except maybe going overboard and buying up anything Stormtrooper-related I could get my hands on. Shout Outs: - Thanks to the FISD and all the helpful posts that helped me get to the finish line (and beyond)! Especially Tony (ukswrath) for putting up with my endless stream of PMs and his incredible build thread, and my Garrison Titan brethren for their support and advice: Daetrin, DinoIgnacio, Jedistar, Old Man Grumpus, Pull_and_Twist, and The Chief. Also a special shout out to my friend Sean at Hellbent Brewing for letting me guard their Imperial Ale while I took my submissions pics: Next Up: - Working on my HWT pack and then a Sandy...and then a R1 Trooper and a Shore Trooper and a Death Trooper and a.....
  11. Cool, Kman! I'm heading down the HWT path myself at the moment! Interesting to hear. Hopefully everything I've gotten so far will still work.
  12. I would like 2 patches when available, please. I hope to submit my HWT within a few weeks.
  13. Thanks for the detail pics! It would be great to see this as a CRL too.
  14. I would definitely like at least 2. I'm building my pack atm and these make me want to submit asap.
  15. Thank you to Tony and EVERYONE who helped contribute to this indispensable thread!!! I'd never be officially known as TK-82166 without all the guidance and discussion!
  16. TK-82166 reporting for duty. Requesting access, please. For the Empire!!! http://501st.com/members/displaymemberdetails.php?userID=21668
