1. Yeah I pinned everything. What I noticed is that it didn't bond with the doopy..just hardened. I had very high hopes at the initial results. But this morning It all just crackled and came apart with a some pressure. Which is not acceptable to me. This is just my experience so far. I have the mag receiver glued and screwed in and I haven't checked that yet without the screw. Resin will ooze because it wasn't mixed well enough to be activated.

I pinned every parts, drilled holes in the barrel, filled them with green stuff, put CA glue and joined them together... The pins are stuck in there now that the green stuff has cured and the CA glue is the icing on the cake. Tough as nails!!!

Mine are the 3/4 X 1/8 inch as suggested in your list. Do you use larger than this? I have been using a plastic spatula to get them apart but now I can see why people would create these bags to put them in.

One thing that works great IMO is hockey tape like this : -----------

It's cloth, so it protects the magnets from breaking but it's tape so it's quite easy to work with. You can leave some extra to make a sort of handle...

  3. Exactly. For display personally I'd like the best and most accurate out there, but for trooping the most comfortable but still reasonably accurate. I think Anovos fills in the gap of licensed armor, because Rubies is not what I'd call a Stormtrooper armor, unless adding the term "clown" somewhere. So Anovos might not be the most accurate out there, but could be very good for trooping, since it is made by a costuming company.

Sharper lines do not make this armor any more or less comfortable than any fan kits. The shape of those parts or the way they're trimmed might make a difference but not the detailing on the faceplate and such. It makes a difference aesthetically and that comes down to personal preference. I do hope however that it won't affect approval and/or access to EIB status... But, the holster will need fixing, that much we know. The rest is up in the air!

  4. Don't they sell textured paint in rattle cans?

Yeah they do but I don't want that for 2 reasons.

First, I know this hobby isn't cheap but I don't want to buy a ton of different kind of paint I'll have no use for afterwards...

Second, I don't want a hammered finish or a wrinkle finish but more of a sandpaper-like finish. So here's the thing, if you spray too far from the surface you're painting, tiny droplets of paint have the time to dry before reaching the surface. So you end up with something that feels like sandpaper. It happened to me the first few times I tried painting stuff and I was mad at that time cause I wasted a smooth finish... But here, that's exactly what I want! So that way, I really only need a flat and a matte black and some metallic paint for the inner bolt.

Obviously I'm gonna make a small scale test first but if all goes well, that's the plan!!!

  5. Oh, it's not a year recap, it's almost only for the last 3 months (oct-dec). But yeah, I should take the time to post some pictures from all the events of 2015 ...

Never thought I'd see TK's playing mini-golf!!! Awesome pics :) You guys really seem to have a lot of fun!!

By the way, I was there at the premier for The Force Awakens!!!

I'm a little shy so I didn't stick around too long but it was a blast to see you guys there! BTW, thanks for not shooting me down, I hope to switch sides soon ;)

  6. 52mm from curve of slot to end of bolt. Mine is only a replica, but should still be within a mm or so.

Ok, so the extension piece I made out of Sculptey is too short by 5 mm

    I'll redo it this weekend!

By the way, I think I've found a way to make a nifty paint effect for cheap on the blaster's body. While reading the post, it seems like the crinkle paint finish was actually only used on promo shoot props, while actual movie props has a rough, grainy matte finish for the body. So, I was looking at ways to produce a similar effect with rattle cans and I found out a neat little trick in the application so no need to purchase anything extra... I'm nowhere close to paiting at this point but I might do a test to see if it works.

  7. Lots of great progress and execution there David. As Matt said, unless it's going to bother you, I wouldn't worry about the misalignment too much unless you think you can fix it easily. People (and you) will only ever see it if you hold it at that exact angle, which won't be often, if at all.

Hey that is so cool, I just subscribed to your build as I was looking for reference on the bolt!

Thanks for your comments, you guys are right, I shouldn't worry too much about it then :)

BTW, if I may ask, would you be so kind as to take a measurement of how much of the inner bolt is showing in the slit in the back? If you don't mind, that is.

  8. Yep. I built a Pulse Rifle from ALIENS and had tons of mistakes in it. But overall it looked great and no one noticed lol

Let's be honest, we really are in the hardcore Star Wars nerd bubble. 99,9% of the public, even like, big Star Wars fans have no idea what we are talking about around here!!

  9. Not that I have a lot of experience with SW props, but I've built a few things before. Making something like that crooked is a mistake only you will likely ever notice. And though it sucks on a personal level, it really does look fine and no one will likely ever see it.

Thanks a lot! I know what you're talking about. I've been making a few props here and there and we always are our worst critics. I've had people tell me my Jedi outfit looked great but all I could see was the things I screwed up... It's my first time building a blaster so I guess it's bound to have a few flaws.
  10. Right! I was just trying to play along as I may be a bit of an Anovos fanboy from time to time

Back on target, here's a picture that just came up on Twitter. It's from Frank Ippolito's shop and it supposedly shows Anovos helmets. Emphasis added to the s as in more than one helmet...

It looks consistent with what we've seen of the Anovos buckets but it might be a prototype like the Shadow Trooper they got this summer. So, nothing solid but still kinda cool to see :)

  11. Ok, long time no see, eh?

I finally got in the mood to work on my blaster again! I worked on a few other projects in the meantime and read a few build threads, so all is not lost!

One thing I realize though, is that starting with the scope wasn't the best idea. By the time I finished drilling through that thing, I was kinda discouraged thinking I bit more than I could chew. But, with Christmas came Christmas vacation so with all that free time, I got back to work! And boy, did I make some progress!!

    Here's a picture of where I am now. xUHztGr.jpg

Starting to look like something, right?

Even though I'm not shooting for something uber accurate with this build, I did choose to make a few mods here and there. One thing I wanted was to make a more accurate front sight. It's not finished yet but here's how it looks so far. eETXiZ0.jpg

I also added texture to the front sight guard and a more accurate d-ring. XmateGL.jpg

I didn't want to buy a new magazine, so I worked with the one I had and tried to make it look more the real thing. What do you think? RXi1byJ.jpg

I dremeled the strip on the bolt and made a new one. It looks a little warped because I think I forced it in place... I'm not sure about that one :/ I might try to add serial numbers to this thing, we'll see how I feel about that one later. fss2vwa.jpg

The trigger is working!!! I installed a ballpoint pen spring behind it and for some reason, it has a really nice clicking feel to it! ahxDKgj.jpg

I wasn't happy with the folding stock cutout, so I put some green stuff here and there and reworked it... Much better! XkpxIB6.jpg

I'm also working on a spring and working inner bolt. I'm gonna be using a wooden dowel for the bolt itself. However, as you are aware, the diameter of the doopy tube is so thick that it just wouldn't look right without some modification. So in order to hide the thickness of the tube, I molded a piece with Sculptey that raises the bolt up to the desired height... P00M8OE.jpgDN9M0SN.jpg

It's still a work in progress but I think it should look good once I'm done with it!

Alas, not everything's perfect in paradise... After screwing and gluing my folding stock, I noticed it's actually crooked LrC9Gfp.jpgpNg2Tmb.jpg

I don't know if it can be fixed as I used CA glue to bond it with the body. Do you guys think it's an issue I should try to fix and if so, do you think I can get the folding stock off? Oh, I forgot to say I already put green stuff over the screws I used to secure the pivot of the stock...

As usual, thanks in advance for any help or comments!!

  12. I'm really worried this armour isn't going to be as comfy as my favorate pair of slippers or that I'm going to have to try and put it on without opening the box and it just assembling itself around my body shape. A little like an iron man suit only white and plastic. With any luck it will be totally tailored to me with Anovos not knowing what my measurements were before shipping it.

What now, you're gonna tell me there's no HUD integrated in those lenses?!? How are we supposed to shoot down those pesky rebels without it?

    Preassembled helmet my ... !!! #AnovosWorstCompanyEver

  13. Or lie. Sorry, but they are far from truthful. If I went based on ship dates they've given me alone, and got a dollar every time they were completely wrong, I'd be a rich man. Hell, I had one of the owners call me on my cell phone to talk about the at-at driver when I bought it back when it was first available. He told me a ton of things...most now have been proven false. I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. They make nice stuff, but they're far from trustworthy. They just tell you what you want to hear to get your cash.

Hell, the tks are shipped in a week or two, and they still don't know if their holsters are real leather or faux. Really? You're two weeks out and you don't have a clue what materials you're using? Riiiiiiight.

They confirmed in their bonus November newsletter that the holster is real leather. They even shown pictures of it...

As for as using the 3D files from the screen used helmets, it would make sense in explaining how quick they were able to produce them. I've been thinking about that for some time actually.

  14. Hey guys, new to the forum and new to trooping in general...

I am looking to build a new first order stormtrooper. I really like the way they looked in The Force Awakens and I think it would be a good fit for me.

I have always wanted to do this so I am glad I have finally chosen to do so. :)

Excited to get the build underway and read what you guys have to say on the forums.

    Hi Cladius!

The First Order TK are not yet available to the public. The liscensed ones, that is. Anovos is the company making them but those you may have seen at premieres and such are prototypes which are a 501st exclusive. In exchange for the advance access to those suits, these guys have been providing Anovos with feedback on how to make them better.

Be aware that those are expensive. Like a few grands expensive. It is also a very difficult built as it requires the use of filler to hide some seems and the whole suit has to be painted. The Original Trilogy TK doesn't.

There are fan-made kits available but you should be very careful. There have been instances of poor quality kits being sold online. Maybe some good folks here could give you better info on where to get a good kit.

Anyway, this is getting long so welcome!
