1. I've been out of the loop for a bit. I know there have been some centurion anovos, but what is the lineage of their kit? Is it scanned or a custom sculpt? Also is the sizing different than other screen derived armors like ATA or AP? Im super short (5'6'' 122lb).

That's kind of an hornet nest you're kicking there buddy!

Word on the streets is that it is a scan from an RS, cleaned up to remove warps, warts and other oddities. Don't take that as cash though, only the people who worked directly on it would know for sure but that's the buzz on lineage...

As for sizing, I don't think I'm knowledgeable enough to go there but I'm sure plenty of good people here will come forward with an educated answer, so I'll leave that to the experts!!

EDIT : Ideal proportions for this suit is 5'8 to 5'11, 160 to 170. We're talking ideal body size YMMV...

  2. Hi I have two questions on weathering the scope and counter.

1. The scope I've drilled out all the way thru and I'm awaiting lenses to add to it and then will be painting it. Spraying it brass then a black coat to wear. Should the black coat be flat black like the blaster or a semi gloss finish? I did the blaster grip and t-tracks in the semi gloss finish.

2. I have a replica Hengstler counter on order from Blue Snaggletooth he's building it now. Its a black counter do I leave it finish as is? Or paint it flat black like the body of the blaster?

Thanks!
Christina

I did the same thing with the scope, it's a very cool mod! If you feel up to it, you can add the prism from the binoculars and add a target to your scope. It's not like it's functional or anything but the effect is pretty neat!!
  3. I got this Sterilite footlocker :

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-Footlocker-Black/16415912

My kit is trimmed and still in pieces but it all fits so far. I don't think the helmet would fit though, even when the kit is all assembled with the pieces stacked into one another. I got a helmet bag for that reason from Amazon...

I've read of a few people here that have been using them but it's not the go to choice like those 50 gallon ones. Still, it's an option if you have a small car like I do...

  4. Thank you! As you can tell, I'm new to all this. I knew these were detailed, but I had no idea this detail even existed.

You heard it from some of the masters my friend!

I you haven't already, include ukswrath's excellent build thread to your requiremed readings.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, it's quite normal some of the parts don't seem to match very well, it's the nature of the beast!!!!

  5. I do have a tracking number. From what I can tell, they pooled international orders geographically and then sent them in batches. We have a bunch of kits coming to Montreal. They left the warehouse last Friday but since it's ground shipping, they hoped around all across the US. It was still in Ohio this morning which leads me to believe it should be at customs today or the next. We're supposed to get them tomorrow but it seems less and less likely IMO.

To be fair, it's not the end of the world but it kinda feels like we got the short end of the stick

    And just like that :

Looks like tomorrow should be a day long remembered!!!

  6. David

Have you received a shipping notice yet? I got my notice last week and FedEx tried to deliver today but I wasn't home. Shipping to Canada seemed pretty fast but I'm on the West Coast. Second attempt will be tomorrow. I ordered April 28th although from reading this thread, there seems to be no rhyme or reason on shipping.

  7. Ok, so my with my Anovos kit on the way, I figured it might be time to work on this again!!

One thing I put aside for too long is finishing the scope I drilled so long ago. (Did I mention this would probably be the longest build ever?)

Previously, I drilled through the scope and made space for the prism. I have to be honest, it's a bit sloppy but as you may find out if you attempt this mod, it's not an easy task! I painted the interior(and a little bit of the exterior but I'll fix that later) and installed the prism :

    ovghTgv.jpg

Like I said, it ain't pretty but it should do the trick!

Next up, I needed to install the scope target decal I printed. I printed it on a laminating pouch, the kind you put a sheet of paper into and put in a machine like this : http://www.amazon.com/GBC-HeatSeal-QuickStart-Laminator-1703000/dp/B001B0BE6M

I printed it small enough to fit the inside of the binoculars I took the lenses from. It proved to be quite a challenge as I had nothing to glue the decals onto. As usual, green stuff comes to the rescue!!! I made a kind of return edge to have some material on which to install the reticle on :

    cTsdxbF.jpgpUMy70M.jpg

Again, it's pretty fugly but it won't be seen! I should point out that used hot glue for that and to secure the lens housing inside the scope.

With that done, I can finally put the scope back together!!! I sanded the joint a bit, put CA glue, held it down for a minute or two and applied a generous amount of green stuff to seal any gap.

    CUPb959.jpg

I'll probably sand most of it down tomorrow but at least I'll get it nice and smooth!

Now, the big question is, will it blend? Probably but what you really want to know(as well as I) is does it work? I'll let you be the judge!

    kUgj1Qn.jpg

I'm pretty happy with it!!! You can't really tell the scope was drilled by a monkey and the effect is pretty cool IMO. By mounting it behind the lens housing, you get a really neat 3D effect. I should point out though that the effect works best if you look from about 6 inches. Any closer than that and your eyes lose focus and you can't see the reticle.

Overall, would I recommend doing this mod? Sure, why not! It's a cool little effect and it gives your blaster a little extra that makes it unique! Be aware though that if you're a noob like me, you may end up wanting to pull your hair out! That's normal, I assure you.

Now with that out of the way, next up is the rear bolt but that's a story for another time!

  8. There is something wrong with this helmet....Need one in my hands

That can be arranged Eric! Should be getting mine on Friday. I do intend to retrim the eyes and rework the frown though. But I'm in no hurry to do that as I have a lot of trimming to do on the armor itself...

You are indeed right that it is different than screen derived fan-made kits but I hope that with a little tweaking, it will look right at home with other troopers.

  9. Mineral spirits should take the paint off in all but the most bizarre of scenarios. That is exactly the approach I would take.

Granted, I have a bottle of it in the garage already, but still.. That's where I'd start. :D

Thanks Tim! In your experience, would you advise stripping it all off and completely repaint or is it possible to just clean the top and bottom a little?

  10. IMO, just by trimming the eyes, painting the corners of the mouth and raising the brow will improve the look significantly. And those are very easy fixes!

You can even go further by de-squaring the teeth on to top and bottom by getting rid of the paint that goes right up to the edges. Anyone have a good idea how to go about this without painting it white?

    Exactly my game plan!

I think I've heard something about using mineral spirits but I've never tried anything like it...

If you compare it to this screen used helmet, you can see its quite similar :)

I think a little bit of trimming between the teeth and repainting the frown would go a LONG way towards improving the look of it. I'm no expert but I'm sure someone on here can chime in.

Can't wait to see someone try his hand at it. By the look of it, we will have plenty of reference by the time it reaches us in the Great White North...

  12. This is an outstanding thread in the history of the FISD. Never before seen so many entries for - well, almost nothing.

NOW with the first brown boxes arriving, this totally changes - and the thread explodes even more. But we finally get facts and photos to stop the rumors.

I fully understand everybody's exitement and impatience, but can't see reasons to post "I ordered in month X and did not get anything yet".

It has been said so many times: patience is the key in this hobby - even for Anovos customers ;). Don't worry, sooner or later everybody will surely get what has been paid for.

A thing that I am much more worrying about, is to possibly see this suit causing something like a separation within the FISD. Why that?

Many people jumped on the train for the Anovos OT TK. A lot of them are new to this hobby and some might start to build without doing enough research in advance.

Mistakes will happen and in the heads of some long-established troopers, there might be a prejudice like "another inexperienced noob with that Anovos armor".

And the fact of creating the "Anovos Stormtrooper Kit Building Group" on facebook (which was surely meant to help), could also be taken as a step towards such a separation.

Please: don't let that happen! No matter if you like this kit or not, let's keep in mind it looks not bad, it brought many new members to the Star Wars costuming scene - and so with to the FISD.

Posting that comment in this highly frequented thread, feels like walking through a minefield. So please don't get me wrong. So far I like what has been shown on the pictures and I think the people will get a good armor for that price.

The FISD will grow, as will the 501st Legion - and that is something good, right?! :smiley-sw013:

Have fun with your builds. And if you are still waiting for BBB, enjoy it - that is a part of this game.

I love your comment. I am one of those who got into FISD because of Anovos. To be honest, I was aware of vetted makers selling kits and the 501st before but I wasn't aware of how to buy. The idea of buying something unlicensed was frightening to me. When I saw the tier 1 offer, immediately jumped at the chance because I knew it was a steal and I had confidence in them due to their Trek products quality.

I looked at things like Jedi Robe but after looking at a fan made kit, I could tell it wasn't worth it. But still, sending close to a thousand dollars through PayPal to a guy who makes armour in his garage felt very foreign and scary for me. Now, I know better! I bought a few items from the community and got to know what it's like to be part of this group and I can say that I would totally buy armour from AP or ATA without hesitation... In fact, judging by what I see here, I probably will at some point as it seems buying armour is some kind of infectious disease!!!

Long story short, I'm part of the Facebook group also but I would never limit myself to only one of them. To me, they both serve a different purpose. Even though I've been browsing here for months, read build threads and watch TrooperBay and Mike Culp's videos countless times, I still don't feel prepared enough for my coming build. This is why I'll be making a build thread, to share my questions with this knowledgeable community and get advice from the best :) And I know with the help of the good people here, I'll do ok :)
