I think you need 4 AA's to get the 5 volts you need. Each AA put out 1 to 1,5 volts and they add up. I've tried wiring my 5v fan yesterday using a 4 AA holder and a rocker switch and it worked like a charm!

Unless I missed something, it was said by reps on the show floor but never formally announced... I might be wrong though! Either way, I trust them to put out a good productI thought their confirmation of the switch back to ABS was during SDCC... I'll have to go looking for that, I suppose.
At any rate, I believe that they'll produce high-quality armor no matter what kind of plastic they use. I've heard good and bad things about both ABS and PVC, and I, having never made armor before, have no real frame of reference and therefore no preference.
-
That hasn't been confirmed yet, not officially at least...Just so you know, they've switched back to their original plan of using ABS rather than PVC.
They did however post in the standalone shadow trooper helmet preorder that it's made out of black ABS. So, I guess ABS it is!
The next newsletter should clarify that, it's supposed to come out any day now.

They look very close to TKboots IMO. Not 100%, there are some slight differences in the design but they are as close as you get for the price! If you intend to go with black boots painted white, they seem to be a great choice... Very comfortable too! In fact, I'm wearing them right now
-
The nice thing about Roamers is that they are very narrow at the ankle, so that should help, that is if those are the boots you bought...Ha no doubt. I really need boots to see if my shins are to tight

Never thought of it that way. It may or may not!!So you are going to break them in then paint? Will that make the paint last longer?
To be honest, I was just excited to have something stormtrooper related I could wear

I think your work will become a reference if you continue at that pace! I'm keeping a close lookThanks David I'm glad that you like my blaster build so far. I just hope that I can get it completed to the standard that I am aiming for.
There are many other great builds that I have taken inspiration from but what I like most about this forum is the way we all help each other.

The last I checked, 799$ plus shipping and a PayPal fee of 4%. Keep in mind that this is the armor only, so you will need to buy all the soft parts from vendors here in extra.
-
People have seen it at San Diego Comic Con but the assembly was rushed... I think you can find pictures of it in this thread. I think I may even have posted them myself but I can't remember
It looks good in my opinion but I'm no expert. Keep in mind that no matter which armor you get, the low canadian dollar is gonna hurt... It sucks, I know, but the is why the 350$ preorder was such a steal. The exchange rate was better at the time...
In the end, you could always order now and see what the quality turns out to be once they start shipping. They'll let you cancel if you change your mind...

I agree with Charles, I won't paint them until later but they look and feel great out of the box! Probably one of the best options out there.I appreciate the feedback. Like I said, I will definitely post pics and my personal review of the boots once they arrive.

Thanks! It means a lot coming from you Your build is fantastic and inspired me to push the envelope a littleHi David I'm glad to see that you managed to find some green stuff.
Your build also looks to be coming along well.
The vice looks great and is something that I have been thinking about for some time.
Keep up the excellent work.

Thanks! I came to me after I realised how awful in was with an hacksawThanks for the idea on the vise! I need one now!
-
Another update, I didn't build anything, but I bought something :
For those of you, like me, who live in an apartment or don't have a workshop, it's a portable vise that can be attached to any table. It's working great so far! I don't see it lasting decades but for small projects, it's great! Here's a link :

Hope it helps you guys

Sooo... Once again, huge thanks to Thrawn's Guard, I found this :
As it turns out, not only is there a Games Workshop near me, but there is a card game store in my neighborhood that carry Game Workshop's products and they had green stuff!(I also like that it's really called green stuff )
Also, my mother-in-law called, so I knew I had half an hour to kill while she and my gf talked, so I did a few things. First, I Dremeled the folding stock :
Then, I drilled the front of the scope to fit the lense casing :
It's very rough, I'm starting to think I should be more patient with the Dremel. BUUUUT, now that I have green stuff, I know I can fix these in no time!!!
Yay!!!! This is so much fun

I must have walked by that store at least 50 times, it never occurred to me they'd have that! Thanks man!!!
-
Nice!!! There's no such thing as too many DD build threads!!! Right?Guess what showed up on my doorstep today (even though tracking shows it is still in NY)?! New thread on its way.

So, update time!
There is light at the end of the... Uh, scope?
That's right, hollowed all the way through! Pictures or it didn't happen :
So, it's very, VERY rough... Drilling without a bench vise, while you're sick turns out to be maybe not the best idea ever! Who would've thought, eh?!?
So, with that in mind, I will try to clean it up with my Dremel and some putty. The twist though, is I don't have any green stuff and I can't find any in my area. Any substitutes you guys know about?
I've tried that stuff on a previous build and I wasn't impressed : http://m.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-4-oz-Epoxy-Putty-31270/100344357
I was thinking of using something like this http://m.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/j-b-weld-plastic-weld-repair-epoxy-putty-0383820p.html Thoughts?

That sucks Good things come to those who wait though! But I know how you feel, ordering online has its downsides...Darned box has been sitting in New York for the past 4 days!
-
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think there is anything in that price range that comes fully built... Gotta work for it at that price! And then, even the Anovos kit at 350$ costs a lot more than 600$ once you add blaster, boots, electronics and tools needed!

I'll be watching this closely. My kit has been sitting in New York for the past few days (waiting to clear customs I'm guessing). Hopefully it will be here soon!
The waiting game is the worst. Worth it though!!! The moment you open the box, you kinda feel like a kid again.

Thanks Charles! I have to say, it's a good thing I have done a costume or two over the years, I'm more confident now then I used to.
I really like the fact that whatever I may want to do, there a pretty good chance someone's done it already and has made a thread about it.
I've done a bit more work on the scope today, nothing fancy but I've hollowed most of it... Pictures to come!
-
Thanks I don't know yet about the prisms, I hadn't considered it until I saw your build. I will look at your build for reference but my biggest fear is to bite more than I can chew...
I keep going back and forth in my mind about this and putting electronics in it... So many options and such limited skills

POLL ... 5v or 12v blower cooling fan for Helmet? HELP!

link removed no longer working
So, I tried plugging my fans and it was so easy! I'm just glad I did that instead of buying a pre-built kit, it's very rewarding to hook everything up, press the switch and see it working!
It took me about 15 minutes of research, cost me 10$ and only a few minutes to get it working. I bought everything from Chinese retailers on eBay so the shipping took a while but it was worth it! For such tiny fans, they put out a lot of air!!!
Here's what I used :
