  1. Yea after looking at your build I might actually take the cut off pieces of the face and glue them back on...DO OVER! Really, I think I have the face and back better figured out now and it probably is no gap. This weekend I get to finish this off. I also painted the inside black. I think it would help make things dark inside and keep people from seeing in. I also like where you have your brow. I will be looking at your build tonight as I secure the face to the back. Thanks! Russell
  2. Hey! I think I did that too, timing off too much on the left side and I am not 100% sure I have enough to get a rivet into the bottom. I think if that happens I can use a tiny bolt & nut like 3/32" or something. I have several little brass nuts and bolts that are really-really small. I would worry that that epoxy will let go of the plastic someday. Go see what the hardware store has in teeny-tiney bolts. Look in the brass section they seem to go down to smaller diameters / lengths. I think your helmet looks great! Keep on going! Hoping to get mine together this weekend and start painting the details. Got my Trooperbay paint set.
  3. I am currently working on my first TK build with an ATA helmet. After freaking out over the face-to-cap fit and supposed gaps on the sides I think I have it evened out. But I am going to cut the ears roughly first to make sure I get things lines up right. This thread was a BIG help. I will be visiting it often for reference. In other words I'll let you be the first over the cliff and then I'll get my parachute and follow! Thank to all who responded to this post it is helping a lot. This TK building makes me nervous as heck, not like building an R2 which is all measurements and perfect fits. This is a all wonky building and crooked everything! HA! Its a lot of fun though! Russell
  4. Hey Steve, thank you! While I was cutting /sanding those I was thinking they were a little thick but was unsure if that was a good thing or not. I am not yet down to a mold line that must be where i need to sand down to. Great method to use the red edit lines. I kinda like where the brow is in that photo maybe lower. And I like the "twinkie" shaped teeth. WOOPS! I also noticed I forgot to take out one of the teeth on the left side LOL!!! Thank you! Russell
  5. Thanks guys for the advice! I am going to go back in and work it some more. This stuff isn't like building an R2D2, its all eyeballing and guessing ...not used to that! Sith Lord: I looked through your helmet build and its great! What a nice outcome. I saw the part where you glued in a little triangle piece and it came out looking great! Thanks all! Russell
  6. I am trying to fix the front of the helmet onto the lid. When I try to fit the face onto the lid it seems there is a gap at the sides. -My major issue is assuring that I have the two pieces fit correctly before I commit and drill holes in the sides (SCARRY!) And advice for this?????? -How do you get the two pieces to stay put. I tried clamps but the plastic drifts around under them anyway. Look over my photos and tell me if you see anything wrong. I swear I only cut a little off, see the first photo. Much less than in Pandatroopers how to series where he builds up the first ATA helmet. See how little I cut off the ends of the lid? "Sometimes" I get a big gap right at the bottom of the two halves, and sometimes I do not. It's really-really hard to find the sweet spot for this to fit together. Other times I get this fit which is the only reason I haven't freaked out yet. I think it's juts a matter of getting it right. This is the best fit I have been able to achieve so far...Even here one side is a rotated a little too far forward and I have room to rotate the face back to hide that gap in the left hand photo. I just need to figure out how to connect the parts when the alignment is like this. Is there some bending and pulling of parts together to get it all to work? Doesn't look like they just lay into each other and fit naturally. And the front.... And how about the bottom? Isn't it a bit crooked? how do you resolve this? Is this OK???? THANK YOU EVERYONE! Russell
  7. I would like to know how this weathering was done!! Show us! Dry brush application or light buffing off of the black. Is the black flat black or a satin black? Thanks!!!!
  8. Hello all, I am a complete nube here and have yet to even receive my DoopyDoo's order for an E11 (I ordered it Sunday morning 3/9...you guys know how long they usually take to ship?). Anyway I am fascinated by all the discussion, photos and back and forth here. But I have been thinking really hard about how I want to finish my E11. There seems to be a lot of effort to replicate the movie props and I might just do that after all but, right now I am leaning to making my E11 a "real Stormtrooper Blaster". Which is not an attempt to make a replica movie prop but to make a "real stormtroopers weapon". I saw a blaster painted in a flat smooth finish and it looked great! All new and clean just like it had been issued on the Death Star from the weapons locker a month or two ago. Wouldn't every stormtrooper want his weapon to be as nice and clean? After all their lives depend on it's function, they better take care of it. I would like to add some wear/scuff on the black finish because it has been used a bit and stored away in a locker right? So to me I think the finish might be a completely smooth- simigloss black, very modern and not unlike the Death Star itself...clean, sharp, and maintained because the Empire can afford such things (after all we are reaping in all that tax money from the outer planets yes?). I think a smooth flat or simigloss finish would be very in tune to the entire style of the Empire itself. A crinkle finish just isn't what I see on the Death Star in the movie. Let those Sandtroopers have the dirty guns, Im on the Death Star and we keep sharp! You never when know when you might bump into Lord Vader or worse the Emperor himself ! Anyway just have a bit of fun. I thought I would add my cent and a half because I do not really see anyone talking about making our E11's as "real blasters" but as movie props. What do you guys and gals think about choices in finish. What is the most popular finish out there now? Thanks! Russell
