  1. Just started working on my TE2 and can confirm they have the swoops.
  2. Excellent work team! Especial thanks to our illustrious Sergeant-at-Arms.
  3. This may go w/o saying, but you should always put the hook velcro facing away from the underarmor. Mine are velcroed on one side and have never snagged - same goes w/all my other velcro'd bits.
  4. Q. Where's Chewbacca? (said to Boba Fett) A. Right here! (Boba holding up a wookie trophy) Q. Home come you're dirty? (to a sandtrooper) A. 'Cause I work for a living. Q. Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper? A. Aren't you a little bald for a wookie? (cred to Sinchan) Q. Is that gun real? A. Yes, but it only works on stupid people. Q. Where did you get the armor? A. There was a sale at Wal-mart. Q. Is it hot in there? A. Only when the air conditioning stops working.
  5. Actually it is canvas. I don't think it would make a difference in terms of flexibility. If anything, it would be more rather than less compared to using the plastic that comes with most kits. The belt in the end is really cosmetic IMHO - your suit should fit the way you want with or w/o it.

    DVD's

It's not really a secret that .vob rips of the original LaserDisc's issued way back with with stereo sound that you could use to burn your own DVD's have been available for several years. Not that we're advocating doing this, BTW... As we all know, the pattern of LFL is to continuosly release newer versions of the films every few years. Lucas seems to hate "final versions" - it's like Cher's final "Final" tour. :-p Next on the list are 3D versions of the OT, IIRC...
  7. It can be tricky to fully glue the forearms. I'd also suggest gluing the outside and leaving velcro on the inside. For myself, if I had them fully sealed I'm not sure I could get them on/off. Biceps are not a problem unless you have huge guns. For the thighs - what Carlos said. The older FX thighs (or properly trimmed new FX thighs) should look tight on your legs, and if you overtrim & glue you can esasly make it so you can't bend your leg. Best to glue the front and velcro the back until you know you'll have enough room. (Ask me how I know that one!).
  8. Mmmm, I don't see any white armor but you do have that air of scum and villiany we like around these parts. ;-) Access granted.
  9. Fantastic thread on the MEPD boards about the lineage and accuracy of stormtrooper armor. Props to our dirty brothers for having this expertise, call to action for us TK's to ramp up lest we lose beers and face during "do you know" contests at gatherings. Since this is a conversation, I'll publish this as a series of posts. Original MEPD thread for cross-dressers: http://www.mepd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1803
  10. Or you can buy it online - just do a google search. This is what I did for E6000. In the end there is no one single best glue, though proponents of E6000 may say otherwise. ;-)
  11. The nice thing about Skullworx is that it's 100% ready to install and self-contained. Even a doof like me can install one in minutes. The sound quality is good, and if you insulate the aerators you can really get the volume cranked. Scott is a super guy to work with as well. Not sure what the current lead time is, but would certainly be worth the wait.
  12. The helmet is really where you need to take your time if you bought it unassembled. It's worthwhile spending a good chunk of time reading some of the building sites listed here :--------- The limbs are pretty easy - mostly applying velcro and gluing things like the biceps. Remember to toss out that crappy velcro that comes with the kit and buy some industrial velcro and Lowes/Home Depot/Michaels, etc. For the rest of the suit - it's probably best to use straight velcro like they show and, once you've adjusted everything after wearing it a few times, make these distances permanant using snaps, rivets, etc. I'm sure there's someone near you who'd trade some pizza/beer to help get you squared away.
  13. You mean for the traps, right? I thought they were the same blue-ish color as the ROTJ. But yeah, that kind of detail certainly should be a detail for deployment.
  14. Do you have instructions of any kind? The first lesson of course is not to panic, or worry. The FX kit (presuming this is what you have) is pretty standard. Should the worse case happen and you break something, replacement parts are easy to get. There's really not much that can't be undone. It would also be helpful to know where you are. The 501st is everywhere it seems...
  15. You can always compromise and just use flat grey lenses for your hero. Not 100% accurate. If you want, you can just tape them in - use flat when you want visibility, use bubble when you want accuracy.
  16. That's not too surprising - a little patience though can yield big rewards. Unless you prefer to roll you own.
  17. Yup, there is that tradeoff. This drama is also playing itself out on the CTN boards between two different armor makers, and the arguments are basically the same. There's no question that HIPS won't be as durable as ABS. Like you, I abuse my ABS armor to no end and it never complains. Like others moving to HIPS I realize that the armor won't take the same level of abuse, but it should still hold up under normal trooping for years with just a little extra care. But then, I want to move to a higher level of detail & accuracy, am willing to sacrifice not being able to abuse my armor to get it, and don't feel that the extra level of attention the armor needs is that big a deal. Now if you want to talk about worrying over armor, take a look at most clone helmets that are resin.
  18. In that case, why not just bypass AP and move right to TE2? FWIW, I have the same dilemma for my TD (FX suit, AP helmet), and in the end decided when I make my move will replace it in toto for a full set of TE2, especially as for a TD you just have to have that bumpy cap.
  19. For the burst IMHO it's really up to what you have in your mind that you want to create. And as you'll see, some prefer the speakers in the aerators, some placed on the belt. In the end it's your costume after all. But I think there is consensus all around that any kind of vox is better than none.
  20. What budget are you looking at spending? At the top of the line is ------- which will set you back a few hundred dollars. -------is another that is up there in quality (but also price). Down the line there is ------- at a very reasonable price point, but I have no idea about their quality. There's also ------- who makes quality kit, but you'd have to plug in a unit if you want the static burst (which apparently is easy to do). Other people just get a regular unit from Radio Shack and blow into the mike to create the burst. So, you have many options. Most of which depend on what level of price, quality, and effort you've targeted. Knowing what your preferences are for these three can help us steer you in the right direction.
  21. The only transaction I had with AP was a helmet, and he was a truly honest seller. The helmet is fantastic and has held up to a lot of abuse. I'm sure his next offerings will be equally top shelf.
  22. Is the intention to wear the suit as is (like ABS), or paint it? If painted, is yellowing still much of an issue?
  23. FYI on some selected comments regarding this news on the MEPD boards: AP has a great reputation for quality, but these are some valid concerns. I've never tried to cut PVC - is it really that bad?
