  1. Unfortunately, the Comic Style boot is really only available from Gio. I don't know if it's based off any sort of shoe style out there, but I've never been able to find an existing shoe that looks like it.
  2. Paul, can we chat regarding Vincent's design? To keep costs down and remove some of the issues with the flap, I asked Vincent to produce a prototype with stitching that would emulate that look but not have the issues associated with the flap (the adhesive comes off, color differences, fraying and damage from the shin). These are based off the original boots that were approved as the original CRL (before Gio's photos were added to the CRL). Here are photos of the prototype: Would really like to have a reliable vendor like Vincent on this project... hoping this can help our new members and the ladies that have worn-out originals!
  3. Second link should be fine with the added strip.
  4. Keep in mind that these parts are contoured pretty significantly. I'd recommend taking off from the bottom of the calf, and mounting it as low as you can on the boot (they sit pretty high on my wife's boots). For the thigh, that's a tough one. Taking off anything will remove the return edges. Will you be heat bending new returns? Perhaps you can just mount the thighs higher, which will end up with less of a gap between the cod and the thighs (not a bad thing).
  5. Checking with Vincent for the prototype photos and when they'll be listed on the site - it was supposed to start today.
  6. Updating first post: Run starts: January 8th Sizes: EU sizes 36/37/38/39/40 or Approximate US sizes 5.5/6.5/7.5/8.5/9.5 (per conversion chart) Price: $99.90 US, $35 Shipping to US You'll order these from http://www.imperialboots.com/ when the run begins in the new year. Set your calendar reminder!
  7. At this time, only the heeled version. We'll do another interest thread on the flat version after this run. Glad there's a lot of interest - I'm sure they'll make it in any size needed. Edit: found out the soles come from a supplier and the largest available is a EU 40 (US 9.5) Vincent is looking for other options, but he thinks it's unlikely he'll be able to find them that large, sorry! I expect some mockup samples this week and will post up here as soon as I get the photos!
  8. Run starts: January 8th Sizes: EU sizes 36/37/38/39/40 or Approximate US sizes 5.5/6.5/7.5/8.5/9.5 (per conversion chart) Price: $99.90 US, $35 Shipping to US You'll order these from http://www.imperialboots.com/ when the run begins in the new year. Set your calendar reminder! ------------------- Original Post: With the options for boots dwindling, I reached out to Vincent @ Imperial Boots about the Legacy design. His team is willing to do a production run in January, pending interest from the community. I have asked for a quote... based on other similar designs, I expect these boots will run in the $100 range. https://www.imperialboots.com/ Please post up here if you're interested in the run. Looks like we had enough interest for Vincent to start a run on Jan 8th!
  9. "The boots have a rugged tread white sole with a tall thick heel." Not sure what the GML is asking for on this one. The photo is not the originally approved heel, it was a Gio design. Here's the original "Newlook" and "Steve Madden" white chunky chelsea that was approved after adding a vinyl strip to the front:
  10. This has been removed from the CRL. There is no reason to define construction methods in the CRL.
  11. Those should work for the Statue version, yes. Add the strip to the front and paint the stitching with vinyl/fabric paint.
  12. I'm going back to all these posts and moving the photos from Photo*uckIt and into Imgur. After building this kit about a dozen times... we've changed a few things to the build process to make it easier to assemble, easier to wear, and lasts longer. I'll update these processes and provide more photos when I have some time.
  13. Very detailed list! The tools look good. Few suggestions: - I would swap out Line24 snaps for the Dritz. The Dritz ones are notorious for failing. - Snap plates are great idea. Because of the curves in this armor, you may want to think about doing snap plates made of the nylon in certain spots (top of the chest comes to mind). - Any idea how you're going to mount the TD to the kidney? I always use 1.75" flat head screws with nuts on the inside of the tube. Inside the kidney, the screws go inside "finish washers". You'll need a drill/bit to make the holes in the armor and tube. - E6000 is a really good idea for a first time build. I prefer CA glue because of the speed, but you can easily screw something up with it... Couple things to think of down the line: - What are you considering for your bucket? Foam? Motorcycle helmet liner? E6000 works fine, but I'd recommend hot glue if you have available. - Fans in bucket?
  14. Gio does indeed make both versions.
  15. Don't think there's any source material for black Legacy armor. My wife just wants it for conventions and... reasons.
  16. Any updates? Pricing? Shannon is all wide eyed and nodding at me. I think that means she likey.
  17. Mark, thank you for the offer. You can make a donation directly, if you wish. The family has notified that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made toward Riley Children's Foundation. Here's an update on the services: A memorial visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Rd., Marion, IN, with Fr. Richard Weisenberger officiating. Private burial will take place at Catholic Cemetery, Ft. Wayne. Memorials may be made to Riley Children’s Foundation, 30 S. Meridian St., Ste. 200, Indianapolis, IN 46204 or online at http://www.rileykids.org/donate Online condolences may be made at http://www.nswcares.com.
  18. Just following up on this one for Shane. He's one of our officers in the Georgia Garrison (he's not here to rip anyone off, lol) - any chance someone can look into this? Is it more than 13 posts?
  19. This may be something that falls in that same category: "troopability" as a consideration for compromise on basic approval. But on the other hand... there's just certain costumes that some people won't ever be able to pull off for 501st approval... again, Vader comes to mind. A 5'2" person is likely not going to be able to find proportional parts (unless they're custom made). So yeah, I'm not much help here
  20. Your reign of terror is almost over
  21. Thanks for a great year! Since elections are coming up, and the ANOVOS flood is starting... can we make sure the Webmaster of FISD gets this page updated next month? Pretty please? http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/page/staff.html
  22. Thanks for jumping on this so quickly, Eric. Also: your Vader gloves don't have the right stitching, you're going to have to resubmit those for approval.
  23. One minor input on the cape. I feel like we should put "almost floor length" instead of having it drag the ground. Any of you with Vaders and floor length capes know exactly why. I've almost been pulled to the ground from someone stepping on my cape. I can't imagine how fun that would be to see a Phasma grinding up on the concrete. While it's great for supreme screen accuracy, I believe basic 501st approval - especially on new costumes - should be taking into account minor compromises to ensure these kits can actually be trooped... or you're going to end up with people who modify it after the fact (causing a whole new host of issues) or costumes that sit on someone's mannequin.
  24. This is looking good, glad this is being worked on! Chrome spray paint should not be allowed. It is too dull and does not have the correct mirror-reflective properties of silvering and metalizing systems. If there is a away to ensure the chrome/silver appearance has “reflective” properties and not just “shiny” that would be great. Although... I would have to disagree with the "no chrome paint" stance. For purposes of a CRL, limiting the types of materials that can be used has been a poor decision in the past (and is always fun arguing what is classified as that material). It's also a bit silly, considering others may be able to achieve the proper look with a different material. This photo is of my bucket with no flash, and quite a bit of club lighting that was going on. It was taken after hours of people touching it, trying it on, holding it for photos, etc. You can see me in the reflection at the top left side of the bucket. I'm wearing white headphones around my neck and a black t-shirt. This chrome spray paint picked up my reflection, along with the red LED lights (see the individual pinpoints?) that were on the floor behind me. My bucket was painted with a can of Duplicolor Chrome and polished using a microfiber cloth. The "weathering" that's on this bucket from fingerprints, sweat, dings from knocking into things... I think it's very similar to Phasma's. You can see the fingerprint streak lines just underneath the (really poorly) painted traps. To get that shine back and the smudges removed (even if they're desirable for the application on Phasma?) you simply use a microfiber cloth and polish. Just like Vader. Speaking of which, the nerd in my can't help but point out... Agreed, not dull or flat, but in Episode IV, Vader is definitely not like the CRL photo we have posted. ANH is not shiny (by your description). To be screen accurate, it should be more along the lines of satin and a little "used" looking. There's actually a GREAT deal of weathering on the chest armor, and it actually *should* be dulled. You just don't see a whole lot of it since the robe covers a good deal of it.
