TM ROTJ helmet build 1.5mm
mikedwelle94 replied to mikedwelle94's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Also, I will NOT be cutting the teeth out. The Battlefront troopers don't have them cut out, and it will likely be a Centurion requirement once the CRL is live. -
TM ROTJ helmet build 1.5mm
mikedwelle94 replied to mikedwelle94's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Got a lot done with this after work tonight. The left ear has been giving me some grief, so that's not on there yet. The neck trim slides on like a dream, but I won't be fitting that on again until after the left ear is glued. The grey paint is drying on the right ear - after that's dry I'll be doing the rank bars and outline with the black Testors paint marker. Does everything look right so far? Is it acceptable for a little bit of hot glue to be showing? Assembled with screws and nuts instead of rivets. I'll have to cut the size of these screws down a bit. TM lenses are held in with some scotch tape for now, just to get an idea of what they look like in the helmet -
Got a bunch of stuff in the mail for my ROTJ-based Shock Trooper. In this thread, I'll be documenting the build of my Troopermaster ROTJ helmet kit. I've built a couple ANH helmets, and after looking this kit over, it seems like it'll go together much the same way. Only major difference being that the ear caps are glued instead of screwed. Rubber trim and TK-4510 ROTJ decals Pre-assembled mic tips. I'm relieved I don't have to cut and install the mesh myself. Bubble lenses. Top set is TM, bottom is AM 2.0. I'm leaning towards the AM lenses for this helmet because I like the shape of them a bit more. But we'll see what each set looks like in the lid once I cut out the eye holes. I have Testors #1138 for the ears, and a Testors gloss black enamel paint marker for the frown and vocoder. Rivets are supplied with the kit, but I'll probably use screws and nuts instead, as I prefer a less permanent method of assembly. Let me know if there's anything in particular I'll be needing that I don't already have. The end goal will be a helmet that will be worn as part of the first 501st approved Imperial Shock Trooper costume. As pretty as this shiny white plastic is to look at, it's gonna need to be scuffed up a little and take some red spray paint and some black+brown acrylic wash. I will never be seen wearing a clean white TK Hoping to achieve a result that looks like my MTK Shock Trooper helmet, which is now in someone else's hands.

Using Anovos kit for Incinerator
mikedwelle94 replied to bluefunoodle311's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I got my PVC U-trim from GreatLakesSkipper.com. ---------- Cover strips appear to be acceptable for EIB, so you're good there. Remember to glue your ab button panel upside down, like the ROTJ armor. I assembled ATA, CAP-W, and MonCal armor pieces with overlaps no problem, but I haven't seen an Anovos kit in person so I can't speak for that. -
My Troopermaster ROTJ helmet kit, kidney/butt, and belt fabric are FINALLY in the United States. No progress to show tonight, just coming here to vent my excitement. I just might have a finished level 1-approvable Shock Trooper by the end of the month. Just need to order a new neckseal from Darman. I've decided the backpack and weapon will happen a bit later on, maybe this summer.

1st attempt at teeth using a dremel
mikedwelle94 replied to Pledford's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
It should be an easy fix - I've seen it done well by plenty of people here. Not worth losing any sleep over I was never able to figure out the correct ABS to acetone ratio to make a good paste myself (otherwise I wouldn't have had to take the Death Trooper route), but you could definitely take Joseph up on his offer to help you out. Good luck with the rest of your build man. -
1st attempt at teeth using a dremel
mikedwelle94 replied to Pledford's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Good start, but I'm not sure if it's okay to have 10 teeth cut out. I just looked at the ANH Stunt CRL and it calls for only 8 cut out. You could definitely fix that with some ABS paste if it's a roadblock to getting approved. http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_anh_stunt -
I'm using PVC u-trim from Greatlakesskipper. http://greatlakesskipper.com/four-winns-033-0890-white-3-16-inch-channel-pvc-boat-edge-trim-u-molding-10-ft Here's what it looks like on my CAP-W chest armor. But since you're in the UK, you should contact Troopermaster here on the forum and order from him.

There isn't a whole lot you will have to do to modify your ANH kit to make it passable. If you can fuse your kidney and butt plates together, you'll be golden. The rest is easy - just glue the ab button panel upside down, build with overlaps, and make sure you're gluing your ear covers on instead of using screws. I will be subscribed and watching as soon as your thread goes up!

You might have better luck posting this question on the RPF or bikerscout.net. Good luck!- 1 reply

Been busy with work and school, so I haven't had much time to do anything with this. My next day off will be spent handling and photographing at a 501st/RL/Mercs troop in Portland this Sunday. I got a shiny new red ABS belt from Walt's Trooper Factory this morning that should fit the bill. Looks to be a good match to the red paint on the other plastic parts. Once I get home from class, I can cut it to size and give it a good blackwash and weathering job. A *little* bit of white enamel paint marker action and it should be good to go. The TM ROTJ helmet kit should arrive any day now.... I seem to be checking the front porch every day in 10 minute intervals looking for that brown box.

ABS TK Shoulder straps
mikedwelle94 replied to sithpiper67's topic in The Foundry - Armor and Prop Making
ATA [email protected] or WTF https://www.facebook.com/groups/waltstrooperfactory/ I have purchased individual parts from both of these guys. -
The only thing that really jumped out at me was your white elastic connecting your drop boxes to your belt. There should be little to none of that elastic visible on the outside. Aside from that, great work, and good luck with approval! Should be an easy pass.

acceptable ROTJ armor trim

That looks great! Where did you get it? I need to replace the crappy Walmart-bought stuff on my armor. -
I'd ask around the Spec Ops Detachment for this. Someone there should know where to source the lens you need. TK5492's idea sounds cool though.

There are also good vendors who are not on the list on the first post. CAP-W. Sells kits in HIPS. Requires painting, but is easier to cut and assemble compared to ABS. https://www.facebook.com/Scootchs-Custom-Fab-Shop-213924908786578/?fref=ts WTF, Walt's Trooper Factory. ABS plastic. Heard a lot of good things about them, and I've seen a few EIB and a Centurion WTF. He also sells in shiny black and red! https://www.facebook.com/groups/612005498911674/ MTK armor is done by the guy running Trooperbay I think. You could probably contact him through that site for more info on that. ABS, and very similar to ATA's kit.

There's several things you can do to modify any kit for a shorter individual. I would start by taking some material off the tops of the thigh armor, taking care to follow the contours. Perhaps you could take a bit off the bottoms of the shin armor as well, but not too much there. Mark Hamill had his chest plate trimmed in ANH to accommodate for his shorter height. Just use a heat sealing iron to create a new return edge.

Looking for advise
mikedwelle94 replied to luis.e.gonzalez.1293's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
So far I've had a good experience dealing with Troopermaster for my ROTJ needs. My plastic and belt material has yet to actually arrive, but he's been very good about answering all my questions promptly. He has everything you'd need for a ROTJ trooper. -
Boots on a Budget
mikedwelle94 replied to iRtheCreeper's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I started and finished my TK while enrolled in college. It can be done! Just have to prioritize your time and money in the right things at the right time - it took me 2 and a half years to get approved from the day my kit arrived. To answer your question about boots, you can find a pair of Bass Amsterdam chelsea style boots on Amazon. I got mine for under $60. Biggest issue with them: the opening is a little large, so it was hard to get the shin armor to fit over the tops. That can be solved with a couple cuts of velcro, and "Velcro One-Wrap." 20160121_232437 -
