  1. While Gio does make amazing shoes, I wasn't happy with mine so I would rather make my own. Thanks for the suggestion tho. Plus from the research I have been doing its not difficult to make a pair of boots and I would like to try it.
  2. I wear a size 14 shoe and Keep Trooping doesn't make my size so I am making my own boots. I can find reference photos for the front and sides of the boots but not the back of the boot. From the CRL pictures it looks like there is a cover strip in the back for a seam. Can anyone post a few pictures of your boots so I can make a pattern? Thanks, Peter
  3. I also have an old FX kit that is severely yellowed that I plan to try this on. I will post up how it turns out as well.
  4. I would also like to point out that the decals and paint on the helmet were not damaged in anyway.
  5. After 6 hours I brought the parts in and washed them with soapy water to get all the Hydrogen Peroxide creme off and there was no sign of yellowing anywhere.
  6. I went through all the posts listed above and quite a few videos on how to whiten plastic and ended up using SalonCare 40. I had a badly yellowed TK bucket. I slathered the peroxide creme over the parts and wrapped them in plastic wrap to keep the creme from evaporating and left the parts out in the sun for about 6 hours.
  7. That would be great. I haven’t figured out how to do this yet.
  8. Thank you that link helps, but how would I get to that menu without a direct link? Is it in my profile somewhere? How do I check what email was used for registering? In my profile there is just a list of unused fields like MSN, YAHOO, website. I am not seeing a way to check my email address is still valid.
  9. How does one enter an email address so that topics I am following send me an email? I looked in my profile but cannot seem to find where I enter or check my email address.
  10. As for the magnets themselves I believe I have the same type rare earth and sized magnets that Cricket used in her tutorial. Thanks Jared, I did rough up the glue side of the magnet as well as the plastic to give the glue something to adhere to. Great point Eric, I did not clean the surfaces with rubbing alcohol which may be where my problem lies. Its quite possible I contaminated the glue or surface with oil from my fingers weakening the bond. As for sizing, I am pretty sure the holes are pushing against the magnets as I have to push the shins together when I put them on so there is definiately some tension there. The area where the magnets fail is the area where my calf muscle is pushing on the sides of the armor. Not all the magnets fail. There are 2 or 3 on the lower part of the shin that remain intact. Its the upper magnets that fail. Lou, I believe I am using the same rare earth type and size magnets as Cricket used in her tutorial. I think I ordered mine after reading about the size magnets she used. Thanks for the replies, I will start removing the old glue and sanding the glue areas down.
  11. Has anyone had success with a particular glue on the magnetic shin closures? I followed Crickets build here : However the issue I am running into is the glue on the outer magnets fails after one or 2 uses. When I say the outer magnets I mean the ones that are not held in the ABS pockets on the inside of the shin. I think the inner magnets hold well because they are basically surrounded by glue whereas the outer magnets just have the one surface to hold them. I have tried Super Glue, E6000, and Gorilla Glue. The Gorilla Glue seemed to hold the longest but ultimately failed after 3 uses. To be fair my calf muscles are big compared to the WTF shins I have and I may be placing a bit more strain on the magnets than I should which may be why the magnet detaches from the cover strip like it does. I am not sure of a stronger glue so at this point I am wondering if I should get magnets or steel buttons with a threaded hole in the center and run a flat head screw through the cover strip and then place a very thin cover strip over that to hide the screw heads. Either that or make larger shins (larger in circumference). Any thoughts?
  12. WOW! Those parts are huge! How big is the person your fitting this to compared to you?
  13. I would hold the parts up to her and mark where you think the edges should be and then translate the edges back to your marks and start trimming. I don't envy you in this task, I have done it for a friends daughter and it was a nightmare of a job.
  14. Walt also does kid sized ESB snow trooper and AT-AT driver kits.
  15. There is one for free on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1469595
  16. I would like to point out the Dave’s assessment of my intention regarding enforcement of the CRL is incorrect. I simply wanted to know what the requirement is. I did my research and asked polite questions in an attempt to understand the issue which is quite clearly a grey area.
  17. I agree, it does look better when all the parts match in color. I would just like to know if it is a requirement for approval. None of the troopers in the original film had matching armor so it would be weird if it were a requirement.
  18. Is there a requirement for ANH stunt armor to be consistent in color? What I mean is the variation in tint that you see in different runs of white ABS plastic. I have read the CRL and done a few searches but have not been able to find anything.
  19. I wonder how many people are like me and don't have a set of armor from a single vendor. I have what I lovingly call a Franken suit. I originally had a complete yet old FX kit, purchased from Ebay (yeah I know cardinal sin). In order to pass muster I had to replace pieces, chief among those the bucket. Also over the years a few pieces have been damaged and replaced, now my kit looks like this: Helmet - T/MC Chest - Custom made Back (011) - FX Shoulders - Unknown Biceps - FX Forearm - FX Abdomen - FX Kidney and Butt - FX Thighs - RT-Mod - previously ATA but donated to help a trooper Shins - WTF - previously FX but also donated to help a trooper I imagine I am in the extreme minority with a kit like this but would still be interesting data.
  20. Ouch! Looks fantastic tho. Nice work you can be proud of a job well done.
  21. Thanks ! This really helps! The gallery of images is a huge help too!
  22. How wide are the cover strips supposed to be? I have read 15mm for the bracers and biceps and 20mm for the thighs and shins. I have also read the thighs and shins can go as high as 30mm if needed. How do I tell what is needed?
