I often wonder if this is the sole reason anyone goes sandy. "whoops, my blade slipped. Looks like I have to be a sandtrooper now."

Velcro for shins didn't stick?
bigtrev503 replied to bigtrev503's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I removed the velcro, sanded the areas, used the primer pen that comes with the glue I used for the latex hand plates (thanks to karin for the advice!) on all surfaces, applied e6000, allowed to cure for a few minutes and clamped the poodoo out of it. I've yet to do another test fit. I will post pics when I do. -

If you ever need any help, or your dremel back, just let me know! I'm getting closer to finishing, but still might not be done in time for halloween. You going to PSU? -
Velcro for shins didn't stick?
bigtrev503 replied to bigtrev503's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I got a generic on e(vil)bay that was white and said industrial strength on it. Should I peel it off, sand the surfaces and reapply using e6000 and clamps? -
I got some industrial strength adhesive back velcro for my shins. It came with instructions that said to let the adhesive set up for 24 hours, so I did and it still peels off. Should I have sanded first? Should I peel it off and stick it back down with one of these five adhesives I've accquired over this build? I'm confused.

Why the three piece helmet?
bigtrev503 replied to bigtrev503's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
While that answer makes logical sense, isn't the goal to be accurate? Not trying to knock those who make or wear a three piece, just asking because if I had a nickel for every time I read "more accurate" on this forum, I could buy a car. -

Were the gigantic FX helmets a three piece? -
When did the three piece helmet happen? If we know the originals were a faceplate and a cap n back, where did the three piece helmet start? Would it be difficult to fuse those two bucks together to make the helmet more accurate?

Meanders TK Build [*ATA]
bigtrev503 replied to meanders's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I'm not even kidding, this is the best construction of an ATA kit I've ever seen. I wanna see more pictures!! Did you use 'offcut' for your shoulder bridges or some of the flat sheet that comes with the kit? -
Genius idea to get that corner in the hero frown. I freehanded it, but this would make it look so much better! Are you going to add extra rivets to your belt so your armor will match, or is this for a display piece?
-
You have to specify that you want hero ears when you buy your helmet. There are a few makers that make hero ears, but I only know of one maker that offers a hero faceplate, and that's TM. Can anyone else chime in with other makers who make a hero facepalte? I had to modify my ATA helmet to be hero.

Punkers AP Armor Build Thread
bigtrev503 replied to Punkers's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
First off, everything looks really good and well put together. I would say try to pull up the thighs a bit if possible. There seems to be a gap between your kidney and ab that might not pass EIB, also. You seem to be a fairly tall trooper, do you have your bicep and forearms connected? Might help close up some of that gap. Pull the biceps down an inch or two and connect it to the forearm. It's screen accurate! This video helped me immensely with figuring out how it goes together http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ2cukrBTYM -
Working on my belt all day. Man what a chore! I installed the chicago screws and ab snaps as you see here: When installing the first female snap I accidentally put it in the wrong way and had to carefully pry it out and flip it over. Next I had to put the male snaps in my ab plate. My snaps didn't come with any hammering tool and my snap tool was too short as you see: Remembering how I accidentally put that other snap in and had to pry it out gave me a genius idea! When you clamp the snap it opens into what looks like a flower. I thought if I clamp the snap down partially with nothing between it then pry it apart, I could bend the "petals" together, pull it apart, put it in the hole I made and bend the petals back out. It was a pain, but it worked a beaut! Partially clamped snap: Also, I got the drop boxes fitted, riveted and are now gluing: along with the rivet covers: Whew busy day! Time to drink

I think they put that hole in it to keep kids from suffocating. Good idea doubling the bags!
