  1. On the originals there were 3 holes in the middle of the "wings". The capacitor wires went down through them and were wrapped over the front edge. Cheers, Andy
  2. Utterly stunning display, Sergiu!!! The build, the stand, the plaques, the communicator in case! All superb! Love it! :th_AnimatedBravoSmiley: :th_AnimatedBravoSmiley: :th_AnimatedBravoSmiley: :th_AnimatedBravoSmiley: How did you go about making/buying the left-hand plaque? And would you please email me your highest res copy of this photo so I can enjoy it in all its glory? (I'll PM you my email) Andy
  3. That case looks brilliant! I really like the details - the rubber grommets at the base of the pillars & the black bands at the top - are they an inlaid material or painted? I'm picturing it with a diffused light glowing (& possibly pulsating) through the perforated base, linked to a small soundboard playing ANH soundbytes activated with push button or motion sensor.... But it's great just as it is too! lol i look forward to seeing more pics of your work if/when you find some
  4. Looking good! You got any photos of stands you've made? They sound really interesting.
  5. Looking nice! Interesting display stand parts in the background - are they made or bought? Back to the scope... there's certainly a Tunisian in that position: I put mine in this position, with the rear scope screw lined up a little behind the stock hinge: This trooper's got an M19 even further back These are the clearest side shots I've got to hand but there'll be other screenies I'm sure
  6. No worries Rob, copy away! But now this thread's got me thinking about changing MY rail! lol I might make another one based on this shot. This one has quite an elegant curve to it unlike some of the more "rough & ready" ones. (Leia's manicured & varnished nails could be enhancing the prettiness, of course!)
  7. The plan looks like one of my early (& inaccurate) mock-up cylinder designs. I don't mind it being there - I just hope no-one uses it cos it ain't right
  8. Rob gets a special Mullard Magic mention! http://www.mullardmagic.co.uk/mullard/blog.aspx
  9. Doh! My bad... this is also a Tunisian version, isn't it, with the rail ending just before the rear sight which, in my haste, I didn't spot before No justification for a parallel rail here... move along.... move along....
  10. Yeah, Han & Luke use loads of different variations of E11 even within the same scenes - I keep meaning to sit down with the Blu-Ray & make a list of all the changes & variations but I haven't been bored enough yet since I had that idea! lol
  11. MR stuff is licensed but not necessarily 100% screen accurate. Bapty is likely to have used the screws which came with the scopes - none of which originally used allen bolts (hex key bolts)
  12. Yeah, I imagine they used the original M38 scope mountings screws. The head diameter is 7mm, and 2mm in height. From the head to the end of the screw the measurement is 8mm & the thread is 10BA. I don't have any originals - Marv gave me those measurements and this photo. I've machined down slightly larger-headed brass 2BA screws to match The original M19 mounting screws are similar dimensions but hexagonal.
  13. Actually to be REALLY SA you could glue the Hengstler on with hot glue & then knock it off leaving just the glue marks on the receiver & scope since that's what happened most of them during filming! lol The heroes are only seen with a Hengstler in the publicity shots & that's of a tunisian version. The Sterlings were taken back by Bapty in the period during between ANH & ESB & (since proppies & theatres get rid of everything after productions) the rails will have been remade for ESB so they're not useful for recreating ANH props. I believe the Tunisian non-firing versions all had parallel rails whereas most of the Death Star Sterlings had the less attractive (in my opinion) "curving down" rail. However here's a shot of Luke in the trash compactor with a very parallel, right-angle at the front rail & that's enough justification for me to use the shape I prefer (I ended up with a 5mm gap between the top of the receiver & the bottom of the rail.)
  14. Really nice curve of the rail against the receiver & 2mm rail gets my vote too! Lovely neat job, Rob - looks great! Do you have a particular screen-used variant that you're wanting to recreate? Like Paul Troopermaster says, in some scenes Luke's had a "droopy" rail & at one point Han had his power cylinders on backwards! lol
  15. Here's a photo showing (top) a Mullard Magic capacitor with bag & (bottom) one of the ones from earlier in this thread By my calipers: The ones Andy19422 & I currently think are screen accurate vary in length from 25.8mm to 26.1mm Their diameter without plastic coating varies from 4.86 to 5mm (The length of the metal cylinder is exactly 1" (25.4mm) and then the thickness of the coloured ends vary) The length of the metal cylinder of the Mullard Magic 1961 ones is also 1" ( 25.4mm) but the coloured sections are slightly thinner so overall length is 25.6mm The Mullard diameter without plastic coating is 5.5mm They are very, very similar and we really can't be 100% sure which is most accurate since we still haven't found an original "METALMITE" military capacitor with all the right markings, including the "K" rating. I'm still leaning towards the slimmer of these two but could change my mind after I put 3 into a baseplate & spray them black - changing the colour of things can make them look very different sizes when you've only got photos to compare them against. Can Mr. Magic get his hands on any more of either size Rob? or, even better the mililtary versions with K rating plus the other letters & numbers as outlined earlier in the thread?
  16. Even if they're not exactly the same, they're still a great find Rob - very, very close to what Andy19422 & I believe to be screen accurate and it's only our belief - without going to America and nicking the sodding MSE droid & measuring it we may never know exactly what dimensions these things were. When I get chance I'll put some in one of my trial builds and see what they look like It's extremely generous of you to offer them out since I think they're ƂĀ£1 for 3 aren't they? Proper trooper spirit right there!
  17. Cool! Fingers crossed! There's actually more research been done than is presented here - mostly by Marv & Andy19422 & some by myself - get in touch if you want to know a bit more. Cheers, Andy
  18. I thought everyone had a Hasbro hidden away somewhere that they bought before they realised how inaccurate it is! lol It does sound like you're happy with the boards so I'll be getting a Big Bro whether they can suggest an LED kit or not. Thanks for the review!
  19. What's the sound quality & volume of its Big Brother like, Matthias? Compared to a Hasbro E11 for example? Is there much background hiss? & does the sound activate when you push the button or when you release it? I'm waiting for them to tell me whether there's an LED kit that would attach to it for synchronised light & sound Cheers, Andy
  20. Welcome aboard Michael! That's a huge shame about your drive crash, they were the best photos I've seen of these parts. I guess losing landspeeder photos was the least of your worries though!? Really looking forward to seeing your printouts. Cheers, Andy
  21. Cool! Will you post your verdict here? I might wait & see what you think of them before buying one myself. Cheers, Andy
  22. Update: Erv has 2 BlasterCores with screens up for sale right now http://www.plecterlabs.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=23 Anyone tried this budget bit of kit? http://www.electronics123.com/kits-and-modules/300-second-usb-recording-module.html
  23. Does anyone know Erv well enough to persuade him to start a waiting list? Or let another technical genius have access to his circuit diagrams to make & sell them on his behalf? I'd love one of his boards but have found the same problem with getting hold of one In a vid of a Hyperdyne boards E11 it looks like it fires when you release the trigger. Can they be made to fire when you press the trigger & is it easy for someone with no electronics experience to fit one? Cheers, Andy
  24. I thought exactly the same thing till I had one to play with! ...& rest easy, there isn't much you've not got spot on! The stock hinge circles are 9.5mm wide and 2mm deep. (Their shape is actually a 1mm dome sitting on a 1mm cylinder but a domed thumb tack of roughly that depth will be probably be close enough) Glad to hear that oiling the bolt worked by the way! Looking forward to the vid!
