  1. Actually my understanding is that they did make a silver version. The Royal Armouries in Leeds (UK) have a chromed version that Bapty gave them. It was marked as having been made for Star Wars but apparently George didn't like it - it was too futuristicky & not "real world" enough. (It isn't on display, you'd need to pay for a private tour of their storeroom armoury to see it... after a background check to make sure you're not dodgy! lol)
  2. As promised over in the sales thread, some photos of the first zinc-plated sets fitted with Uber capacitors. I got a bit carried away with polishing one of the sets but it just looked so shiny & pretty! First without the rear components: Then fully assembled: The printing on the underside of the capacitors is what I'm aiming to leave showing after painting. For example, the "METALMITE" will be showing on this set: You can see the internal cylinder through the rear vent slit in the next 2 photos: & the text on this side which should be slightly visible after painting. The mounting nut is partially blocking it but it says "TYPE CP30S" It's a small thing but I really like the mounting hole (bottom left of the baseplate) on this set. I think I need to get out more!!! Next job is painting them, but that's another day... Cheers, Andy
  3. Hi guys, I've posted a budget resin Power Cylinders interest thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/24821-screen-accurate-resin-budget-power-cylinders-for-e11s/ Cheers, Andy
  4. That's cool about the new Doopys muzzle being more accurate. I'm not sure what question you're asking about the barrel, Jace, but the photos you've linked to are a Tunisan blaster - don't copy it if you're making a standard "firable" E11. There were 2 textures of muzzle bolts: either ribbed or crosshatched. I don't know which of the 2 patterns the Star Wars ones had. The easiest way to match them exactly is to buy them from a Sterling specialist, like this one: http://www.project-x.org.uk/sterling.html The original "cheesehead" scope-mounting screws for the M38 were slotted. Here's a photo of some originals. It was very kindly sent to me by Marv when I started my build. Thanks Marv (NB - the M19 scope was mounted with different bolts) Cheers, Andy
  5. Hi Jace, I don't quite understand what you're asking regarding "stick standard look" or the "wooden dowel within the barrel casing that blocks the last air vent prior to the bolt/ ejection port". Can you post photos of what you mean? Regarding modding the Doopy's muzzle, here is a genuine Sterling muzzle. You'll see the small disk on the end (which is for positioning the bayonet) is down & to the right: ...and here's a Doopy's muzzle with the disk centralised. (they may have changed the design since this photo, which is of a 501st build): It sounds like either is fine for Centurion but for screen accurate you can either cut the end disk off & glue a new one on in the right place or buy a resin cast of an original muzzle from someone. Cheers, Andy
  6. lol... I know you're just joking but to avoid confusing people who aren't familiar with the different E11 variations I better add that this is the Tunisian "dummy" version that just had a wooden block pushed in the mag well. This is the only E11 variation that was used by Sandtroopers but Stormtroopers have them on the Death Star too. Cheers, Andy
  7. Perhaps this will help a bit in terms of "proof". This is one of the comparison photos I took of my "Tunisian Variant" blaster. It shows Gino's track on my blaster compared to a publicity shot of the Tunisian blaster Han holds in the promo photos. Whilst not 100% the same (even allowing for the slightly different camera angle) I'm happy that Gino's track is very close to screen-accurate Cheers, Andy
  8. Probably the least interesting update ever... gently seasoning the metal in a secret blend of herbs & spices. They do move around a bit when the washing machine is turned on but not really enough to warrant posting a video... Cheers, Andy
  9. If you're buying my Cylinders and Gino's track I'd strongly advise against an M38A2 (or any A2 version) - they have a section "cut out" for a lighting bracket. Here's a comparison photo (It's not my photo but I don't know whose it is so can't credit them). For screen accurate shapes you can use an M38, M40, M47, M77, M19 or M32. (Note that the 1942 versions are different shapes to the 1943s) The Tunisian Hero blaster that Han is holding in the publicity photos is a cast resin 1942 M38. In fact, lots of the scopes in the film were resin casts so you don't even have to shell out for a real one to be screen accurate! Any scope you see in a screenshot that has the little black cuboid on top is cast resin. It's where they poured the resin in - if you look at close-ups of the Tunisian Hero you can see little round holes in the top of the cuboid from the air bubbles rising. Cheers, Andy PS - Although resin is screen accurate, real scopes are lovely objects and well worth the money for a good one with the reticle intact! Make sure the lenses are present & clear too (along with the original bezels that held the lenses in) and see if you can find one with original bolts too. To buy with confidence send Marv a PM - he'd be my first call if I was looking for a good scope.
  10. To my eye I haven't held a Master Replicas E11 but these Rebel Scum photos make the track look a different texture & colour to any screenshots or publicity shots I've seen of originals. The curves where the track enters the receiver holes seem a bit "stylised" too. I'd say the MR sculptor put a bit of themselves into the design, rather than staying 100% screen-accurate: http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/mr/mr-anhstormblaster11.jpg Having used Gino's, I'm confident that it's very screen-accurate, though I'd be interested to see categorical "proof" too. Cheers, Andy
  11. Thanks Marv I've got Gino's and Marv's T-track and they're both really good. The width of Gino's is screen-accurate but it's very expensive. Here are some comparison photos of the 2 tracks. (GIno's is on the left in each one):
  12. I agree with most of Steve's points but would like to add that some of the on-screen Hero blasters do have Power Cylinders. See various screenshot examples in this pdf I made of my E11 replicas: https://www.dropbox.com/s/a9dfofb9kpi6zp1/E11%20Replicas.pdf (I did my best to make each replica as screen accurate as I could except "Tunisian" which uses a standard Sterling instead of a cast "dummy" one.) Cheers, Andy
  13. It looks like the Uber Capacitors are a hit! Cheers guys I'll go update the order list. It's such a shame to spray them black but I'll be making sure some of the Uber text can be seen by only lightly spraying the areas that can be seen by looking though the gap between the baseplate and the Outer Cylinders. And, since it doesn't look like the propmakers sprayed underneath things, you'll be able to see the grey & brown undersides of the end bungs too. Cheers, Andy
  14. Hi guys, A few pics of the first batch of Power Cylinders as promised The End Cap production line: A tub of finished "Ceramic Insulators" (See page 17 of my "Analysis" pdf if you're not sure what they are https://www.dropbox.com/s/s53lnuh9rq5xe7a/E11%20Power%20Cylinders%20Analysis.pdf. ) They darken to the correct colour after being fitted in the Power Cylinders (because of the heat from soldering the End Caps on) My hand-made "Uber Capacitors". Every one is slightly different, just like the originals. I really love these! They have hollow aluminium bodies, individual brown & grey "end bungs", slightly aged wire and the most authentic text we can have until someone finds an original capacitor. (See page 23 of my "Analysis" pdf for how I arrived at this text: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s53lnuh9rq5xe7a/E11%20Power%20Cylinders%20Analysis.pdf.) (Sadly they take so long to make each one that I can't include this level of detail as standard in the ƂĀ£85 Power Cylinders. I could fit a set of these for an extra ƂĀ£20 but as standard I'll be fitting simpler one-piece capacitors like the ones on the Power Cylinders in my "Replicas" pdf - still a 100% accurate shape but not quite as awesome! lol). The soldering assembly line with Cylinders at different stages. They look quite rough at this stage but will get tidied up so they look authentically weathered rather than scruffy. You can see I've been experimenting with the zinc-plating process on some of the parts. They'll all get a quick dip for authenticity before painting so that the undersides and any chipped sections show dull silvery grey like the originals. I haven't yet got any finished sets with Uber-Capacitors fitted but I'll post pics as soon as I have. I'm working on the run today. Cheers, Andy
  15. Hi Guys. Sorry for the quietness, IĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢ve been away for a few weeks. Thanks for directing Scott over to the sales page, Matthias. Scott, I'll be adding you and a few others to the list shortly. Yes, the run is definately still on & I've got some progress photos to post when I get chance, including a bunch of my hand-made "Uber-capactors" with end bungs and printed text I've got quite a few PMs to reply to and will get back to you all asap. Thanks for your patience Cheers, Andy
  16. Update: I didn't get all 50 Mounting Nuts totally finished today but I made good progress. I got them all roughed out and 37 filed down (left side of right hand tray) & 12 finished (right side of right hand tray). If you're not sure where these go on the Power Cylinders, they're on page 31 of my Analysis pdf: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s53lnuh9rq5xe7a/E11%20Power%20Cylinders%20Analysis.pdf Cheers, Andy
  17. I'm up for that I've got to get the Power Cylinders out to the guys currently on the waiting list first but I'd love to see the E11 files finally finished. I promised a set to the Curator of Firearms at the Royal Armouries for the help he gave me 2 years ago. Cheers, Andy
  18. No worries, Mathias. Your position on the list is secured for whenever you're ready. Cheers, Andy
  19. Glad everyone's enjoying my little lathe. It was made around the time Star Wars was filmed! Mark, do you have any threads with photos showing your Speedyvac in action? & is anything happening with your laser-cutting project? Cheers, Andy
  20. Hi guys, Mini-update on the Power Cylinders run. I've finally got all the materials at the specifications I wanted. (Well, all except the presentation boxes which are no longer made so I'm looking at other options.) In the meantime I've been making 100 outer cylinders out of thin-walled steel tube & cutting the vent slits in all of them. To cut the slits I mounted a Proxxon cutting disk in my lathe. It's not wide enough so I had to cut one slit, wind the blade out & move it along, cut again & then remove the central material. It gets the Vent Slit really accurate & far squarer than I'd expected it would. I finish it off with a needle file and sandpaper to get it perfect. (The 3rd pic is when it's finished - I put it back into the lathe just to take the photo) I'm now working through the mountain of capacitors you can see cut to length in the first pic. Cheers, Andy
  21. Hi Morgan. Yes, the sales page is here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/24179-screen-accurate-e11-power-cylinders/ Cheers, Andy
  22. That's a really nice way of looking at it, Mathias I just wanted you to know they're slightly different before I solder them in. What a cool idea! I'm sorry about how many black ink cartridges you'll use though! lol
