  1. Love seeing the comparison photos - thanks! Overall it looks good and should be fine for 501st I would think, even though as you point out some details are different from your expectation. Personally to me they don't look much different from most fan-builds though I would say the frown paint is a bit over done for my personal tastes.

As for the belt, my understanding is that all belts will have 4 rivet attachment. This is again fine for 501st base acceptance, you'd need to take out two Chicago screws to go EI/Centurion if you want to stay stunt.

Actually the CRL states 2 for stunt and 4 rivets for hero in the base requirements.

I hope the top two rivets come out of the belt painlessly. I'll be trying it when I get my kit .

Thanks for jumping on this so quickly, Eric.

Also: your Vader gloves don't have the right stitching, you're going to have to resubmit those for approval.

  3. With the LMO's approval I changed the wording of the CRL (Morten you were cc'd):

    It went from:
There shall be a single raised vertical strip running from toe to tongue, approximately 1/3 the width of the shoe.

    To:
There shall be a single raised vertical strip running from toe to tongue across the top of the boot.

    It is now hopefully GML-proof.

Yep. Thats the problem right there. The GML says he will approve the boots, as soon as the CRL is changed.

The Legion is a-changing and maybe not for the better. That's a much bigger conversation to be had amongst a smaller group of people.

  5. I see. So the issue is that I was stupid enough to put something too subjective as "1/3 the width."

GMLs these days bring out their vernier calipers to ensure anything called out in the CRL with a measurement is correct. The local GML system has too many flaws and the current GML culture cannot be loosened up. That means the onus is on the dets to go out of their way to write their CRLs to be picky and strict GML proof.

I will let the LMO that I'm changing that CRL wording because GMLs will not display the sense enough to allow a little leeway in their approvals.

  6. I think I deleted most of the multiple posts. That sometimes happens when you're on a slow connection. Not sure why it did for those folks this time.

That sort of sucks for fans on budget. Might have to go for the Shadow  Trooper or a Soft Uniform if I have to but I was so siked about the old School one. I have not seen any second Generation Clone kits which seemed cool.

Like Ralf said... Not to be a dick... this hobby isn't exactly suited for anyone on a budget. Even an officer could run you a lot once you find the right boots for it.

There are lots of other options besides Anovos out there for a TK but you're still going to spend cash on it no matter what you do.

  7. Hi Eric,

I'm on Oahu. I joined the Pacific Outpost's Facebook page a few weeks ago. Not too much activity there. It seems most of their members are on the West side while I'm on the East side.

    Mahalo!

Yeah most of the stuffs happen on their forums not Facebook. I used to live Big Island and had to fly to troop much less get help :)

Please arrive March 1... please arrive March 1.. .please arrive March 1.

I will post web stats about a month or so after the first wave hits. Their has already been a huge uptick in site usage this winter. It was already on the rise since Celebration.

  9. Couple questions I've been pondering as I wait for cover strips to arrive...

    - On right thigh, should front cover strip go all the way to bottom, underneath ammo boxes? I assume it should.

Referencing screen used suits is the best way to go for this stuff rather than people's build threads. The photo references menu item at the top of your screen is where to find them.

Here are the three key ones:

And here is a photo of the front of a thigh from one of them:

    - Is there a way to keep the butt piece from flaring out on the sides? The belt does an okay job of holding it tight but I could see it easily coming free with any regular amount of movement. I think I read in another build thread that someone had heat bent the sides in to match their contour. Wonder if that's the best route or if there is something easier.

I wouldn't modify much of anything until you get into the suit and maybe troop a little. if I understand your issue you may need to put kidney/butt elastic on the extreme ends of your butt plate. But please don't heat anything up yet.

The on screen TK's belts went across their kidney. Our RT suits end up kinda splitting the differences between the kidney and butt if not a lot on the butt. That's just how things line up. You can play with some velcro on the belt and at the top of the butt plate to see if you lock everything in place. That's what I did at least, but I don't have a flaring an impolite person problem.

    - Do most people strap the forearm to the bicep with elastic/snaps? Seems like it would help keep the gap consistent and maybe help the forearm from rotating.

Absolutely. The biggest reason to do it is for repeatability. It's nice when your forearms end up in the same place every time. For me that is critical so I avoid armor bites on either end of the forearm when it is strapped and sitting happy. Or having it slide up toward my elbow and my glove pops out. Most annoying.

The screen used straps were offset and 2" wide (I like 1.5" myself):

    - Why did the stormtrooper cross the road?

To get a better blaster shot at the chicken.

Also, is it acceptable to use Velcro as a closure for the forearms? Having trouble getting the pieces to the right size for my forearms while still being able to get my hand through. I still have some return edge on the wrist side to remove, maybe that will make the difference.

Yes! The CRL says the forearms must be closed it does not say they need to be glued. That item in there isn't about screen accuracy it was about all the people with FX armor who had big open slits on their forearms. Just be sure to use the thinnest velcro you can find so no one can see it. I had to buy a few different brands before I found one that worked.
