I agree with Tony about belt. With pouch covering holes from holster I don't think that should matter. I like Eric's edit except the drop boxes. But I can live with it. I don't think we need to add the Video/lights section. If they follow CRL it shouldn't be an Issue. But Thanks for including me, I feel Special! The new CRL will definitely be improved with omission of TD and new photos. I'm sure it's a lot of work but wouldn't it be better for each section to have a photo to accompany it. Like cod rivet and butt plate snap location. And maybe photo showing free floating sholder straps and how they should look. I know this is stuff for a regular TK but it works for this one too. I'm always told by recruits that some wording isn't straight foward and a picture would help. Just my 2 credits.

Just because you watch porn on your video screen doesn't mean everyone should.

I see no drop boxes here:

  2. LMO edits below.

OK, so I remember getting a ton of request to update the HWT CRL.  Below are a compiled list of suggestions.  Before I start working with the LMO, I want to ask for your thoughts and ideas.

What do  you like about the changes, what's wrong?  What pictures need to be replaced (besides the model)?

    ------------

We have new updated photos for the main HWT CRL pics, which will be replacing those that are there now.  The thing is with the one shown is this:  At the time when they created the original CRL, there was really no one with a definitive pack, so Brian stepped forward.

Recently in the Staff area they asked for suggestions to update the CRLs, and this is what I posted:

There has been quite a bit of controversy over these CRLs as of late, which you may have noticed.   I am not asking for radical changes by any means, just to clarify the items a bit.  Below I have copied/pasted the original CRL areas, and my suggested changes are in red, and are obviously open to editing.

    Backpack
    For 501st approval:

    • Backpack is must be styled after and closely matches the backpack seen in the Battlefront series as seen in photos and is a requirement for basic approval No video monitors, extra greeblies. lights of any sort or attachments not seen in photos can be visible present at any level.

    Pauldron
    For 501st approval:

    • A black, orange, or white neck ornament made of leather or a leather-like material, worn over the right shoulder.
    •
    • For level two certification (if applicable):
      • Pauldron is of the padded "puffy" variety.
      • Older style flat and off color pauldrons are incorrect.
      • Pauldron must be orange in color
      • Pauldron is lightly scuffed,(battle worn), but not weathered like a Sandtrooper (TD).

    Thermal Detonator
    For 501st approval:

    • No Thermal Detonator is permitted at any level.
    • The Thermal Detonator (a.k.a. O2 canister) attaches to the back of the belt.
    • Detonator consists of a grey cylinder, between 2”(50mm) and 2.5" (64mm) in diameter, with white end caps on each end.
    • Detonator includes a white control panel pad, with controls closest to the right end cap.
      • Note: The Thermal Detonator is omitted from this costume when a pack is worn.

For level two certification (if applicable):

    • Thermal detonator belt clips are positioned with little to no gap between the clips and the end caps.

    Hip Ammo Pouches
    For 501st approval:

    • Two three slot German MP-40 style ammo pouches shall be worn on the hips with one on each side of the belt.
    • Pouches are entirely black in color and made of canvas, leather or leather-like material.
    • Pouch stitching must be black. White stitching must be covered with paint or a permanent black marker
    • There are a minimum of two pouches required for basic approval.
      • One pouch on the left shoulder and one on the right hip.
    • Option:
      • A third pouch worn on the opposite hip.

    Shoulder Ammo Pouch
    For 501st approval:

    • One three slot German MP-40 style ammo pouches on the right shoulder.
    • Pouch is black in color and made of canvas, leather or leather-like material.
    • Pouch stitching must be black.

    Belt
    For 501st approval:

    • Belt face is made of plastic (TK ammo belt) and does include drop boxes.
    • The soft belt proper is made of canvas, or material with a canvas covering. Size is 2.75” (70 mm) to 3.25”(83 mm) wide and not wider than the plastic portion of the belt. The color is white to off-white.
    • It is not allowable to have drop boxes for the 501st requirements. If the drop boxes are used, they dangle from the sides of the front plastic belt (ammo belt) via white straps and are aligned under the plastic tabs of the ammo belt
    • Holster must not be present. (This is awkward I know but i prefer similar wording as opposed to "not permitted at any level")
    • Holsters are not permitted at any level.
    • Drop boxes are not permitted at any level.

For level two certification (if applicable):

    • Belt face (TK ammo belt) is lightly scuffed(battle worn), but not weathered like a Sandtrooper (TD).
    • Canvas belt cannot may not contain have visible holes from holster removal.

I haven't seen a screen shot of a HWT without two pouches on the hip. That wording came right from the sandy CRL.

I do think that a canvas shoulder pouch is acceptable but I'm open to making it leather since the shoulder pouch in the game looks like the same as the hip.

EDIT: Daetrin fixed some tiny typos (e.g. plural when it should be singular, etc.)

  3. Hi Mark... you keep saying... "they" and "they" as if there is an army of 501st people standing against your ideas.

I'm your LMO or the "top brass" (I'm obviously the top something minus the "b") as you call it.

No one has said one word about issues with the ROTJ CRL to me this term. Maybe you brought it up to the former LMO last year? Not only has no one presented proof to me I have not heard a single peep about this nor has any of the LMO team.

Point blank, if Tim the DL thinks the CRL needs to be changed I'm more than happy to help him update it. At the end of the day its up to him.

Rather than railing against the CRL a more productive approach would be to suggest wording changes that you think would improve the CRL. Otherwise you are just pointing out problems and not providing a solution.

    More below...

Yet I am getting an increasing amount of customers getting refused 501st clearance because....... " they have the shoulder straps riveted on, they should be glued..... "you don't have a detonator"........" You need a holster"....... "Your legs and arms don't have the correct overlaps" etc, etc,.........

What should I do? I have presented solid proof to the 501st...... I have sent many photo's proving the shoulder straps were riveted on, I have sent photos of troopers on endor without Detonators or holsters..... Not just 1 or 2, a lot... and proof that the armour was assembled with overlaps anywhich way. But I get shot down by the top brass for causing trouble? REALLY?......NO, it's just that they cannot admit they are wrong.... I am then told that if I want change then I have to join the 501st to be heard and get people to listen......????? Are the 501st that short sighted and pretentious that you won't listen to fact unless I am in your "club"? because that's how it looks to me.

If I understand correctly the three things you cite are:

    • Shoulder straps cannot be riveted.
    • Missing detonator
    • Holster is required.
    • Overlaps are the wrong direction

I'll take these things one by one.

    Rivets in the Shoulder Straps

For basic 501st approval the CRL clearly states that the shoulder straps may be riveted. If someone was denied by their GML, then their GML has not read the CRL. However if the person is applying for Expert Infantry the CRL is wrong but this will not stop someone from getting a costume approved.

    Missing Detonator

The thing that has always bugged me about the ROTJ CRL is that the photo of the det is an ANH/ESB detonator.

But yes this is required. If the DL and FISD think this should be optional then it can be changed. Personally I think not having one is a costume error like Mr. No Stripes and all ROTJ TKs should have one to look the same. For approval I think you should have one and if you choose not to wear one, then don't. Again... I leave this up to Tim to make the det optional.

    Holster Required

As you can see in the CRL the holster is optional. If a GML denies someone because of this they're wrong.

    Screen Shot 2016-12-07 at 10.20.49 AM.png

    Overlaps in Wrong Direction

There is nothing in the CRL about the direction of overlap. If a GML denied someone for this they were wrong. The CRL does not specify overlap direction. However there is a silly note about the AM shins that should be taken out. A former DL, Tom Gardner, made it his mission for people to assemble AM shins correctly. Most people did not. If Tim's ok with it I'm going to zap that entirely.

Your customer is welcome to email me lmo@501st.com if they want to challenge a GML. I'm happy to review the situation and speak to the GML directly.

I hope this clears things up.

  4. Dimensions would help too if someone can measure or take a photo of their ROTJ style u-trim?

Ye olde Great Lakes skipper bayliner u-trim is no longer available.

This stuff looks too small. No?

  5. Hi!

There has been a fair bit of impatience about this CRL floating about. None if it directed at me sadly, but I do welcome direct feedback anytime. If you feel impatient or upset or want to know what is going on... I can be reached via email, PM and Facebook chat if you insist. Many folks have my phone number that I will happily give out to call or text anytime. I get a ton of messages from all sources every day and I try to respond to each and every one of them. My inbox door is always open. So is Tim's.

I apologize for not posting an update on where we are with this CRL. Not only is my legion life full but my actual life is madness. It's all poor excuses but it is what it is.

Oscar Mike Foxtrot Golf! Why isn't this CRL done?!?!?!?

Thank you for asking! I cobbled together a CRL. It used photos from a few different sources. I then sent it out for review to all the LMOs, FISD's Detachment Leader, and a couple phasma experts.

I received great feedback on the words from all parties. With one more major edit those will good to go.

The majority of them rejected most of the photos outright. If both my LMO team say NFW as well as the Detachment Leader I don't have a choice but to go back to the drawing board for this very important and popular CRL.

They are not wrong in their assessment, but I was wrong got try and rush a half assed CRL.

The photos we've received for this CRL have either been low resolution and/or the parts aren't shiny at all, or they are poor quality photos of good parts.

I requested a professional photographer redo one of our costumer's photos of parts. In the mean time if you have a shiny and accurate Phasma and access to a good camera under well lit conditions I invite you to take photos of all of your parts. Feel free to reach out to me directly and I will tell you which photos we need.

Thank you for continued patience with this very very important CRL.

    -Eric
