  1. Just speaking for myself, the only parts on my armor where I have velcro are on the backs of the greaves (calves), the side plates, and on the back piece where the shoulder straps attach. I glued the thigh, forearm and bicep pieces completely so I can just slip in and out of them. If you need to adjust the fit that much, then you would end up having to put in shims anyway. There's certainly nothing wrong with using velcro on all of those pieces, as the good industrial velcro's adhesive should stand up to repeated use and remain attached to the armor without being pulled off. I think carefully applying glue in a lot of those areas gives the armor a more "solid" appearance and looks more realistic, but that's just my opinion.
  2. I actually did not end up using hotglue on my lenses. I tried that first but did not like the results. Instead I found some small pieces of very sturdy packing foam material and cut pieces out to fit around where each lense goes. I then used superglue to glue them around the sockets, and then superglued the lenses to the foam. That way I have a more flush fit. I've trooped with this configuration for a while now (since last May) with no troubles.
  3. It's nice to see all of your hard work pay off, isn't it? The suit looks good, nice work!
  4. I hear the RHC Relentless is always needing fresh troops... Great job on your kit, Martin! That TE2 bucket goes with the armor very well.
  5. Couldn't be a better guy for the position - congrats, Tony!
  6. Nice job on the kit, Phil! Looks great to me. The only nitpick I personally see is that you might want to add a close-up shot of the ab buttons. They look correct from what I can see of them in that first shot (are they from VaderDave?), but they are a little obscured. Anyway, like I said, that's just a nitpick. I think you've done a fine job.
  7. Congrats on all the hard work you put into this sweet-looking armor. All of you guys are making my rig look sad - makes me glad that I'm working on a new one.
  8. Looks quite nice! I agree that it does feel good to get something done on such a project. I love my AP bucket, and I'm sure you'll feel the same. Looking forward to seeing you tackle the rest of the suit when you get the time.
  9. If I remember correctly, it took a little under a month to get an AP suit (which I've since sold), and that was having it in kit form, untrimmed. It likely will take longer to have a suit trimmed out and assembled, so I don't really think it's time to start worrying quite yet. You certainly can email AP and ask politely about your suit's status. He's a good guy and usually responded to my questions quickly.
  10. I'll second that. I just received my long-awaited RT armor a few days ago and have started putting it together. Already I can tell that it's going to fit better than my FX and should look quite nice. The thigh armor was the big thing on the FX kit - TK-725, if you look at my Elite app pics you can see what I mean (I'm 6'3"). The RT thigh pieces should work out much better in that regard.
  11. Nothing going on in my neck of the woods. We always have a slow spot during the winter where there just aren't many trooping opportunities in this part of the garrison. This is all okay with me personally, however, as I'm awaiting my RT suit to be finished (which should be by next week). Then I can put my modded-up FX suit in reserve. I also have been doing more work on my Ep III clone suit, but that's coming along very slowly and likely won't be finished until spring or early summer. Today I saw "Valkyrie" and will probably later fire up the XBox 360 and play some World at War.
  12. I think it looks fantastic, Kris! And another Hero helmet to boot - not many of those in the Elite ranks. Of course I didn't expect anything less after watching your "Boss" build. Great job!
  13. Those prices are more like what it costs to put together a good Vader and getting closer to what it costs for a Fett - definitely overkill for a TK. Prices depend on how accurate a suit you want to begin with and how much of the accessories you want to purchase already made and how much you want to try to put together yourself (such as a blaster or holster). For example, more accurate suits like AP, TE2 or TM do cost more than the ubiquitous FX, but still a whole lot less than $2000 (except perhaps for the TM because of the exchange rates). Whatever suit you decide on, it will be good to have another white trooper join the ranks.
  14. Definitely go for building a clone, Tony. There is a big need of some sharp-looking Ep II/III TC's out there and I know you'd do a bang-up job. I was fortunate enough to get hooked up with some great OSCS armor, and right now I have all the pieces trimmed and am ready to measure things up for making the arms & legs seamless. Helmet is almost finished with assembly, as well. I'm looking forward to the challenge!
  15. Looks like the kids had a lot of fun...and I'm not just talking about the ones visiting for the movie, but for those kids wearing the armor, too. I'm also glad to see that at least one clone trooper was able to make it. A lot of garrisons are still light on CTs and it showed for the premiere. But in the end I don't think people really minded or cared - a trooper is a trooper! Great job Thayne.
  16. Cheers! I know exactly how you feel because I felt the same when my AP kit arrived. Good luck and look forward to seeing your progress.
  17. Sweet-looking armor, Mike! I don't think you look too "chunky"...I prefer to call it "defined bulk". We have to have TKs who can intimidate without resorting to simple height. The only thing I can see that needs a little work (aside from that already mentioned) is that bucket. Who on earth made it for you - it's terrible! J/K! You, sir, do an awesome job putting helmets together.
  18. I've sat down (and stood back up unassisted) on those little plastic chairs that seem to be cons everywhere in full armor. I don't think movie theater seats should be much of a problem. The aisles & stairs, on the other hand...
  19. They are easily loud enough to be heard clearly in a room or even in a convention hall, as long as you're not trying to get the attention of someone a fair distance away. By switching to a pair of AA battery boxes instead of a single 9V the output can be raised up some, but it still isn't as loud as an external amplifier. I preferr having everything mounted within the helmet so I don't mind giving up some on loudness. If its too loud for me to be clearly heard in normal conversation than I just turn the sound system off anyway.
  20. Right now I just have my ROM/FX mounted in a hollow along the inside rim of the helmet with some industrial velcro so that I can remove it easily, yet it stays put when I want it to. That way it is close to both the audio jack for my Hovi speakers (courtesy of Stomper) and also close to good mounting points for my AA battery boxes. I have an AP bucket and everything is enclosed within.
  21. The short, "go easy on me" answer is no. The mic tips are shaped wrong, have the wrong type screen, and have silver lining around the screen that does not exist in more accurate Hovis. Now, I don't know if the green acetate that comes with the AP is screen accurate or not. I did use it for a while and it worked just fine, but I grew tired of how they looked and replaced them. I also don't know if the trim is accurate, either, although I personally think it looks fine. I would definitely replace the Hovis and then see where to go from there. Hope that was an easy enough answer.
  22. - Side gaps between ab & back plate need to be closed, either by having the pieces actually touching or through the use of ABS (preferred) or other white material shims. - Holster to be fastened from behind the belt on left side with rivets/snaps. I know you've got the blaster end covered with one of Smitty's awesome E-11s. You will likely need a canvas belt, as you guessed, as I think GF comes with an ABS belt. A good place to obtain the correct-sized & colored ab buttons is from Vaderdave. I think that pretty much covers it from what I can see. It won't take much work at all to get that nice-looking suit up to Elite specs!
  23. Congrats on the acquisition! Are you going to use the Hero configuration the helmet's currently in or convert it to stunt?
  24. Nice work so far on the Cpt Rex clone armor. I'd love to build a set myself someday, when both time & money are more abundant than they currently are. A good place to check up on the specifics on the nuances of ANH-style armor is the Elite Standards page here on FISD. It lists everything that is particular to each film as there are a number of differences between ANH, ESB & ROTJ. You don't have to go all out to Elite if you don't want to (although I know Paul would love it if you did!), but at least the info is there. I personally like ANH armor the best.
  25. Nonsense! I'm at that same height and love being a TK. One of the best parts is "forcing" a couple of our garrison Vaders to wear platform boots in order to boost their height when I stand next to them.
