  1. So would this be considered equal quality to a hyperfirm? I'm looking to upgrade from my Hasbro Doopydoo conversion. I'd like to take it out for troops too. I know it's an ebay rule, but would he ship without painting the tip orange?
  2. I used the ABS cement. But you have to work fast with it because it sets up fast (it helps to have a friend hold the pieces while you apply the glue). Which by the way is kind of nice. No need to wait overnight to see results and frees up your clamps. I highly recommend buying ceramic magnets to help seal the middle of the long pieces were clamps can't reach (thighs, calves, and forearms). I bought some for CHEAP at Harbor Frieght Tools (I love that place). It's also a great place to buy the clamps. If you go with ABS cement, go with the clear stuff and use masking tape to help keep the pieces free from glue excess. Tape also helps guide what area needs to be glued.
  3. The color is very close. No need to paint it to match up the colors. Just take a look at my pictures to see the colors. Yes, the Tupperware AM kit is ABS. Although, I'm not 100% sure of the thickness without researching it. It's definitely a nice kit.
  4. I borrowed a spray can from a local garrison member. He bought his from a box store (Home Depot or Lowes). I think it was Rustoleum Brand, Grey. Definitely go with a paint spray can which will prevent leaving brush stroke marks. Good luck.
  5. Thanks for the compliments guys. I just made EIB Status as #100 Woot Woot! Let me answer some the of the questions above. For the snap pieces, I used the abs strips that I trimmed off of the kit pieces. I also used one "plastic belt" abs piece that I wasn't going to use because I made my canvas belt. Another thing I laboriously did was I actually cut the lengths of the rivets down by using a hack saw and a table vice to hold the rivet. To do this, use the "nail" shaft to support the inner hole of the rivet. So when you cut the rivet, you are also cutting the shaft at the same time. I do this so that the rivet is set far enough into the male button, that it doesn't interfere with the female snap when it comes time to snap them together. If the rivet sits too high, the rivet prevents snaps from... well... snaping. Speaking of the canvas belt... I used white canvas fabric, also called "Duck Cloth". I folded it over 4 times and sewed the edges with double parallel lines. Here's my TK Belt Link if you're interested. Another key thing when attaching your plactic armor TK belt piece to the canvas belt is to mark your holes on the canvas while wearing it. I can't stress that enough! If you apply them laying flat, the holes won't be lined up when you put it on. I learned that advice on this site as well. Jani, as for the belt color... you can use white or natural cotton color (which is slightly brown) for your TK. Either is acceptable. The natural cotton color is canon, but I prefered to keep my kit as white and shiny as possible. Best of luck!
  6. New hovis have arrived! Please review my pictures above to see my screen accurate hovis. That was the only thing holding me back. Come on EIB 100!
  7. Oh, that was well before the invention of Under Armor. They must have used black body paint.
  8. I assume you're asking if I had to paint it white? No. I didn't paint it white. I hand painted all the traps, tear drops, and teeth. I used decals for the tube stripes. I painted the inside of the helmet pieces (while it was apart) with black plasti-dip.
  9. Nice job on the AP ears. Very small gaps... if any at all. It takes some time to get them like that. Doesn't it? I know mine did. So when are we going to start seeing pics with the gear on?
  10. I couldn't agree more! This site rocks! Darth Voorhees' generosity won't be one-sided. I've got a special challenge coin from Afghanistan that's going back in the same packaging (I hope you put a return address on the package ). So while I'm waiting, I decided to fix my quirky bicep problem with shorter elastic straps... It used to look like this... So what's the EIB number up to? I assume once approved, the thread title will be updated with the correct number? I didn't want to put a number in my submission. It would be sweet to be in the first 100.
  11. ***UPDATE*** Honorably requesting Expert Infantryman Badge Status for ANH Stunt. I believe this is the first Tupperware AM Kit submission (armor only). The helmet is AP. The blaster is a Hasbro/Doopydoo converted E-11. I'm looking forward to joining the ranks of the elite! NEW HOVI MIC TIPS HAVE ARRIVED! Please review for EIB status! Please! Pics of the new tips are below... Link to my build pics for those interested New Tips
  12. Looks great! Now the fun begins... paint. I used thin masking tape that I bought at a local hobby shop to help with the lines of the traps. Much easier to work with than the blue wide painters tape. For the teeth, just paint them by hand; masking tape is not needed for them. Have fun.
  13. Thanks Stuka, snaps it is (I'm brave). I had remembered seeing that earlier but I forgot about that little detail. I also removed the 1/8th rivets (pictured) I was using for the canvas belt / ammo belt attachment. I used 3/16th rivets instead. Much wider and secure than the 1/8th rivets. Here's how I supported my arm pieces... How I attached the holster and put together the ammo belt...
  14. Requesting 501st status please. My 501st membership data link
  15. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to look into doing that. Although, I fringe when it comes to drilling more holes in my armor. Did you put snaps on both sides?
  16. I cut the butt edges to line up with where the ab piece met up (in my case... overlapped) with the kidney piece. Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad I could help out the future AM kit builders.
  17. I've been granted 501st Membership! TK 7143. Who do I need to talk to to get my 501st membership recognized on the FISD site? I'll request ANH Stunt EIB when that's completed.
  18. I velcroed my backs. I found with the AM kit that the top edges of the back thighs are reversed. You want the overlapping pieces on the outside of the body. For example, the seams should be facing inward so that people to your left and right can't see the overlapping seam. Well, with the AM kit, the edges are not cut to utilize the pre-formed edges (that give the illusion of thickness). Make sense? Not a big deal, that's the only place I ran into that problem.
  19. Thanks Panda, Your posts helped me out a lot. By the way, what other poses are there, other than Super Hero?
  20. No. I've got the right shirt. I just put the biceps on facing the wrong way. Easy fix.
  21. All done! I'm in the process of requesting 501st Membership with my Garrison Membership Liaison (GML). Pictures went out tonight. So here are some pics to ponder if I'll make Expert Infantry Badge Status here on FISD when that time comes... Here are my pics...
  22. Yep, I used the plasti-dip for the bucket. I didn't want the kidos to see my noggin from underneath. Plus, my friends said it cuts down on the glare while wearing it. I like the way it turned out. Now I need to get pads for the inside of the helmet. I only need pads for the forehead and the sides. I've wear a 7 1/2" hat size so it's pretty tight in there. In fact, when the helmet rests on my head, my eyes are perfectly lined up with the lenses. So, no need for a "crown" pad. If I do, it'll be foam fabric... very thin. That's what I'm leaning towards. I'm thinking Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH) pads for the front and sides. They're velcro-able, and are made to handle sweat. Anyone else have any suggestions? I think it would be too tight to try to install a hard hat helmet liner.
  23. AP Helmet Hand Guard inner straps. Couldn't resist posting this. My daughter wanted to wear it while I was out in the garage working on it.
  24. I had the velcro strips in the back positioned so that the calves were too tight. Since the dress rehearsal, I've placed new velcro strips to allow the calves to expand 1 inch. That'll make it easier for the calves to come/rest over the top of the boots.
  25. Below are pics of my "semi-dress rehearsal" I wanted to highlight the fact I velcroed the sides together instead of going the elastic strap method. I LOVE IT! Nice and snug and adjustable! Again, this is a great option you can do with the AM armor. Again, I'm 6'2, 195 pounds. Fits like a glove! 501st membership on the horizon...
