Hello everyone! I'm super excited to be here. I finally let me nerdiness get the best of me, and I bought an armor kit. Unfortunately though, I now know that I bought it from a well-known re-caster. Yes, the dreaded MakerOfThings. I have read so much about specifications, and things like that because I wanted to get 501st approved, but I never thought to look into things like material thickness. The armor should be arriving tomorrow, and I plan on trying to build it anyway because even if I can't join the 501st, I am still going to love being in the costume i'm sure haha. Has anyone had success stories on here with thin armor, such as MakerOfThings? If anything else, at least it'll be good practice armor I guess.

Also, if this wasn't the correct place to post this, please correct me. I have been looking forward to being active for so long.
I have also thought about posting progress pictures/videos. Would this also be the same place to post those?

Thanks for any help
- Tom

Hello and welcome aboard, I’m not familiar with this particular armor so by all means post up some photos once you have it in hand. Some may be able to chime in and offer advice to weather will need modifications. Also reach out to your local garrison membership officer as ultimately it’s he or she that will be looking after your approval.

Normally this section is for build threads but no reason you couldn’t change the thread name once you receive your boxes.

Research is the key to this hobby so do your homework, study the CRL’s (costume reference library) and look through some of the build threads to see what is required for assembly.

Good luck

You may still be able to build your armor to 591st standards (and beyond), post photos when your kit arrives and we will do our best. Lessons learned. :)

Thanks for the support guys! I will be changing the thread name, and posting some pictures soon! So far, the armor is no where near as thin as I thought it was. It feels quite durable actually, but then again, I haven't ever seen any other armor in person. It is definitely bigger than I had imagined, but after searching online, it looks like it is correct in size.

Hi Tom, and welcome to the FISD!  I have some good news for you...  First, I did the same thing by ordering from Makerofthings before I knew about the FISD and 501st.  After finding out about this site and that it was a recast, I went ahead and built it for the practice and ended up selling it on eBay as a "Halloween costume" for more than I paid!

I then purchased a set of AM armor and never looked back.

We try to steer folks clear of recasters like MOT, as they profit from someone else's hard work.  Creating original, accurate molds for armor is no easy (or cheap) task,  BUT... MOT armor is approvable.  We recently had someone actually get to level 2 with it, so all is not lost.  I did find that their helmet was WAY oversized, though, and I believe that the applicant had to replace it because of that and other issues.

Once you start your build thread we will be able answer any questions, help in any way we can, and best of luck on your white armor journey!
