First0rder[TK]
Thanks Gents Helmet - 09/27/2017 Wet sanded the helmet using 400w paper removing almost all of the initial coat of filler primer. Then gave it a thorough wash and let it dry Once dry, i gave the helmet a coat of Etching Primer. The Etching Primer will protect the fiberglass and promote maximum adhesion to the bare FGlass surface. This evening ill Wetsand the Etching Primer with 800w then will apply 2x coat with standard primer Yoke - 09/27/2017 Ive noticed a small crack in the FGlass and ammended it with CA glue. In speaking with a few gents, they all recommended reinforcing the yoke. I used a piece of 2"x6" 80 thousands ABS and drilled / placed the snaps 4.5" apart on center for the Bells. Glued these in place with E6000 and clamped to dry Bells/Ab/Cod - 09/27/2017 Here i made snapplates using reinforced 1x1.5" webbing and seared the edges. Added Tandy Line 24 snaps and glued onto the armor with e6000. Allowing to dry. Additionally, started work on the chest plate. On the 26th, i sanded the chest plate with 150g and painted the chest plate with Etching primer. Here i wet sanded it with 400w and allowed to dry. First0rder[TK]
Thanks Kit!! Helmet - 09/28/2017 2 Coats of Base Primer and allowed to dry. Starting to look like a FO Trooper Using Bondo Glaze/Spot filler, here i spot filled any pinholes that i wasnt able to see before. With the White primer, i could see them. Wet Sanded the helmet now with 800 grit and allowing to dry. you can see where i over sanded a bit around the eyes and air rater. As a result, ill be applying 2 more coats of primer today. TD - 09/28/2017 Spoke with a few gents Kit and Darren for the length of the TD cap and went with 3.3cm / 1.3". The Cap was from a can of Dupli-Color. it was the only one that was smooth to start and no ridges etc on it. Glued on with E6000 and Clamped to dry
First0rder[TK]
Helmet - 10/01/2017 Over the Weekend i shot 2 more coats of Primer on the helmet then dried overnight, next day Saturday morning, i wet sanded the primer with 1500 and allowed to dry. Sat evening i shot it with 1 coat of White Base. Sat Night i wet sanded the Base paint with 2000. Sunday morning i added 2 more coats of White Base. Sunday Night i layed down 3 coats of Gloss. Here are the Results: Tonight ill mask out for the black and hopefully lay the Satin down. Edited October 2, 2017 by First0rder
First0rder[TK]
Bit of a delay in posting but been working away with the armor. Since last posting, Ive sprayed all the parts with Rustoleum Etching Primer. Here are the lasted and as always please comment if you see fit. thanks Helmet From the last picture, i taped off the helmet and painted on the black. Unfortuatly hit a huge issue with the Clear as i didnt allow it to dry. as a result the masking tape left marks in the clear. i then had to wait 2 more days and wetsand the entire helmet. The stripe will be Flat Black. Also Notice the wonderful Fruit Fly that landed on the Chin while laying down the clear. Another Wet sand and reshoot due to that. Ugh...!! Yoke A few gents; Darren, Kevin, and Tony recommended reinforcing the yoke. Here i curved and cut 1/4" aluminum rod and using 5 min 3M epoxy, i set these in. Its working quite well and very sturdy now. Might be a great solution Ab Working on Strapping and glued in Magnet snaps for the rear. This was recommended by Darren, Kevin and Tony as well and is working quite well. the magnets are a great idea Shoulder/Yoke An internal shot of the strapping progress: Edited October 10, 2017 by First0rder

I leave the shoulders snapped to the yoke and slide that over my head. The Cod and Butt plate will also remain snapped so will go on in one piece. I am curious on how ill get the TD on solo as havnt tried that yet

I am curious on how ill get the TD on solo as havnt tried that yet I do the same way, leave shoulders snapped to the yoke to get kitted up. I also have the front shoulder snaps slightly shorter than the rear, helps to keep them forward when you move your arms. Looks like the black line on the helmet is quite glossy, hope id dies down once dried completely. Keep up the good work.

Glenn Great suggestion on the Rear shoulder snaps having them longer. i extended my rear snaps by 1" (2.54cm) and they sit better now. great job! yeah the black paint, i used the same paint for around the eyes, frown etc and to shoot the black stripe but was too glossy. ill be painting that stripe Matte Black this week. Speaking of which, has anyone used a Matte black that does not chalk and or get shinny when you touch it? suggestions. thanks Edited October 11, 2017 by First0rder
First0rder[TK]
Some test fitting last night. was all about snaps and adjustments Fitting Shins Got some great progress on the Shins and Spats. Sanded and Glued on the Ammo and Clips using Darren Vs suggested Loctite 60Sec universal CA glue., Works and holds like a charm., also like that its Gell based so its gap filling formula does great. Filled in any additional gaps with Bondo Glaze. TD Little more work on the TD. Coat or Primer Filler and glazing to fill in any pin holes. First0rder[TK]
Thanks Daniel, Im using Montana Cans Gold Series for the Base coat and Clear coat. these are the same paints that LFL used on the ShoreTroopers Armor. The paint goes on very smooth and fine which is wonderful but Im not entirely sold on it just yet as its a softer Acrylic paint which remains flexible which is nice for Jims armor, however will it stand up to trooping. that ill have to report back once i troop a few times. Lol on Finns shoes in the picture. hahah, beats me.

First0rder[TK]
11/07/2017 Update - Progress Update Items to accomplish this weekend Shins - Fill in inside recessed area (where clips normally sit) with bondo and sand smooth. - DONE Shins2 - Cut out Pill holes on Shins: 30mm by 8mm. Then Glaze and primer and paint - Not going to do after all. Decals instead Belt - Tape off 2 smaller horizontal clips and paint black then clearcoat - DONE Helmet - Paint Flat Black Stripe over - DONE TD - Clearcoat and install rear clips - DONE Had to get this book as has many references to the 501st and really great book in general Ab section. Primered and Wet sanded with 800 Shins One of the shins had a weak spot so chose to reinforce with ABS On the inside of the Shins there are no clips, so wanted to ensure screen accuracy and filled them in. Here i used Bondo to start filling them in Here it is after block sanding, then second bondo fill, and another block sanding For the opposite side i wanted to diminish the depth of the seam. So tried something new and working out well thus far was to use flexible caulk. here you can see it initially filled in around the clip and seam. heres an image of it after wet sanding, primer and outside. Still need paint but it greatly diminished the seams initial depth Yoke - Black area Painted with Krylon ColorMaster - 2 coats Shoulder Bell - Decal Time. Here i gauged the area where the crest would reside. I opted for 120mm from the bottom. This looked to best match the positioning from what ive seen on the web as well as Darrens Findings. Ammo Boxes - Masked off and painted on the black area for the 2 smaller boxes Helmet Masked off and painted 2 coats of Krylon Flat black Results - Does anyone see where i messed up? yes i masked off the brow trim too short , haha. Now have to remask and paint over the stripe plus fix that scratch in the back black area which i didnt see.
