Short leg modifications? Trimming lower shins?

So I got it together in time for Halloween and still have some work to do. (painting etc...). The only thing I want to ask about is the leg fitting. I have pretty short legs at around a 29-30 inseam and walking was not the most comfortable. What have you guys done to modify for shorter legs? (I can post better leg pics later)

Yes, you can trim the bottom of the shins for better fit. It's not uncommon at all.

The pics should work now. I think I need to trim the top of the thighs too. Is there any guide on doing that?

I used masking tape across the top of the thighs and bottom of the shins. Then I marked points at the distance I wanted to cut off (in my case i wanted to remove 1 inch) and connected the dots. This should form a line parallel to the existing edges. Used a dremel to cut it off
