My first ever e11 build

Recommended Posts

I'll start off by saying I have never built anything like this before , I've been a fan for life but have recently fell deep into a rabbit hole that I don't want to leave . I was interested in building my own e11 because I feel like I'm pretty crafty when using my hands and buying one seemed like it was taking all the fun out of it . So when I was first looking online it seemed like building one out of pvc pipe would be the easiest way to go. Then as I was reading I noticed people saying "glue it this way then when it's painted it'll look like a weld " - that sparked the thought of (since I am a welder) why don't I just make one out of metal and actually weld it together. I work in a shop and they don't mind if I dip into the scrap bin so I had material to work with . I got what measurements I could online but really I just looked at pictures and eyeballed /guessed on %90 of it .

I started off simple by just drilling the holes . At this point I didn't know how it was going to turn out . 47b81609d851d92523693e91e7cd1647.jpg

I didn't know how else to do the handle so at first that was going to be the only thing not made out of steel on this . ccad34b8d0a80d7fbe2345298d1708f8.jpg

After cutting all the holes I dug thru the scrap bin for a piece of pipe that would fit the ID of the main pipe . I wanted as many moving parts to actually work on this that I could . I had to order a spring and the only one I could find was on Amazon and it is wayyyy to strong , I can't find another with the same OD and length but a lighter duty one . I got it to where the bolt can weenie back . I also added the scope rail at this point . bf3cb0c65150cca15d162352cb8e12b2.jpg04a53ba1d897efe90147c8a2e9b2e7f0.jpg

I added the barrel on the inside and made the tip out of spare parts and washers around the shop . Sadly I didn't make the tip offset like it's supposed to be but I feel like it didn't turn out bad . It is welded in a bit crooked though as you will see later. bce7cab8a99835659f16de629acba70c.jpg

I then started to make the folding stock , I wanted it to actually fold out . Like I said , I wanted to make the moving parts functional. 5324c980adb17dc87b1b2c3493048df0.jpg

Here it is started to take shape a little bit . a2ecacafff77f286c77a3a4d200f0296.jpg

I built the magazine housing out of some sheet metal that I bent and found some random pieces that seemed to fit nicely 96aff8e4431261dbd5532fd6bb0bb670.jpg

Here is the handle of the folding stock put together, that was not fun to cut out and bend and shape / grind down . I had to build 2 of them before it finally fit , the first one was to small and this one I know is a bit oversized looking but it fits good on it . 3ed6bf29c375deb5b96571a0aeecea0b.jpg

Here it is folded out 022ea128576a03f7d1b8bc7fedccd19b.jpg

And here are the front sights , again made out of sheet metal with an old flathead screw bit in the center796dafe2aff9254e1aa723b8cbdd394e.jpg

Next I built the magazine, it has a magnet on the inside that locks it into place so it can be remove able. 8ea16e6742b139bd2f151a6ac26a0df3.jpg4553cb11df7224fe2c0634f626d70c2b.jpg

Here it is starting to take shape some more , I made sheet metal cut outs for the wood handle but I still didn't like how it looked . 41204c84a6f2006be21b89d5ba109e66.jpg

I made the t track rails out of a rake from lowes .dc78c312c600c40f78f76cbf7d77f8e4.jpg

Then I made the scope out of some more scrap tubing , it was a lot of grinding to get the cone shape to look ok . 35b321290ba0cfddea1916cfbf3fa16e.jpg

Like I said I wasn't happy with the handle I had , mainly cause it was wood so a friend of mine laser cut one out of steel plate and added the aluminum sides to it to save some weight and I was very happy at how this turned out . 18b160114faf3dad0e39be53d2f0f3cf.jpg

Here it is with the new handle welded on and the scope welded on . I was not happy with the back cap cause I could not find a good way to make it work so I broke down and ordered a real back cap from online , then the challenge was to make it fit on the way it was intended to be so I found some scrap tube that for over the OD of the main piece and cut out the j shape ccbdc067b38a43756d127812c8932e95.jpg

That was not easy but I'm glad I took the time to make it work. The back cap now slides on , twist into place , and the spring locks it into place as it should . I now have all of it together and it will be getting sand blasted and powder coated flat black next week. 8be51cdb098278cd69fb93a120ec9645.jpg

Definitely took some time but it turned out better than I thought it would . It's not light , weighs in at almost 5 lbs . I know it's not perfect but not bad for 95% scrap and less than $35 spent on it . I thought I'd be more satisfied when it was done , but building it was all the fun . Now I need to build a nicer one .

Wow very impressive work.

It would be great to try to get some texture on the handle but I really like the way you have built this literally from scratch.

I knew that the handle shouldn't be smooth like it is but I couldn't figure out good way to get the texture on the handle , yes I could sit there with a file and make every line by hand but I'm not that patient haha. The good thing about them is that they screw on and off so there is always room for Improvement in the future if I do come up with something.

someone give this guy a chopped Sterling kit ^^

let him remove all paint, weld, and chrome it, or spray it gold., forest endor camo finish ... c'mon :D

Yet have to see something special ... something a resin kit or scrap build hansn't don yet ..

You got my support.

In the end they all end up black ... but what would impres me (my opinion) is a diferent color for display..

heat up metal showing all colors, you name it .. :D

Non the less '' Impressive! ''
