OK, so I know that allot people here have more than one helmet.  Shoot I even KNOW a guy who has like 20+ costumes here in the 501st.   Anyway, I understand that FANS are a must (for most) and same as some sort of Comm system and while I DO want to know about and see pictures of that as well, I'm going for a more specific area here.

I want to know about what works for you and WHY as far as your helmet padding / suspension system (Grin).   What I'm looking for is from the people who have more than one who have tried out DIFFERENT systems.

I've been told that padding / cushions in helmets make it hotter because there is less room in the bucket for fans, but I've also been told that more cushion (nope not gonna say it) is better insulation...

I'm in Texas.  I KNOW I'm gonna install a fan or two (or more)  But with an AM Kit it already comes with a Hard Hat liner type suspension.  MUCH better than this one but it was a quick access for me :

http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Fit-Welding-Helmet-Replacement-Headgear/dp/B004F7MYXK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426724975&sr=8-1&keywords=helmet+liner+replacement

And I've seen other using padding like this :   (again quick access)

http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Baseball-Helmet-Softball-Included/dp/B00DGFBIEI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1426725011&sr=8-2&keywords=helmet+padding

But I want to know if you have tried other things, and if so, WHY you use the system you use now ?

Thanks for taking Your Time to do this.  It really DOES help...

There is already a few threads requesting troopers to show the insides of their helmets. Click HERE for the latest one.

Im sure if you see one you like you could PM that particular trooper and ask what they used and how they did it. :)

I re-read your post again and I missed the part where we explain why our helmets are so.

Well, I have recently got a second bucket mainly because I wanted to see if I could do better now that Ive already built one. Mostly for aesthetic reasons.

I did experiment a lot with electronics in my first bucket but because it was mostly already built, I didn't want to keep taking it apart etc.

With my second bucket I tried my hand at hand painting and making sure the ears had minimal/no gaps. Also did some mods and installed the Active Environmental System which gives me some volume in the lid so I can hear a little of whats going  on outside. Apart from that I went with just fans. I don't like the idea of wires connecting the helmet...so I went with a throat mic system.

There are so many ways of customising your helmet on the inside. There are no rules so do what works for you. I tried so many things and I think Ive found what I like, Im sure in the months ahead someone will give me some crazy idea and I will try that too! I suggest you check the thread I linked if you haven't already cos there are some amazing builds in there. Some look so good im sure they were issued by The Empire....

I can't attest to my Tk bucket yet cause it's not finished yet but I have a tie , mando and my wife's scout to talk about. First the tie I

For padding I have used a hardhat rig which I removed cause it gave me a headache I replaced it with padding and it's much better nice firm fit and doesn't make much of a heat difference. Fans are a must in my opinion not as much for cooling as it is to combat lens fogging. I have two fans one that is on my face and the other on the lens. As for comm yes I have it the fans love it and i t adds realism so your not a muffled yelling voice in a helmet, one step further I also have environmental hearing so I can clearly hear all the kids that I'm stepping on lol.

The mando has minimal foam padding and is the warmest beCause of the face sheild and zero ventilation the fan is up above pointing down across the lens and pushing hot air out the bottom . Amp and hearing again.

The scout also is the same situation as the mando with fans she has an amp

My Tk I plan to do military pads with all the electronics

Hope that helps

LOVE IT !!!   OH Yes, I have seen LOTS and LOTS of thread builds on Helmets and the ideas are a bit overwhelming and all but I STILL wanted to see more.  It's kinda like a math question sometimes for me...  What I mean is, you can ask the same question to 5 people and get the same answer, but if you ask them HOW they got to the answer, that is where it might be different.

I 100% LOVE the ears on your Helmet, so tight in on the bucket itself and CLEAN !  (I am SOOOOOOOOOO having problems with mine) and then when I got to the other image and SAW the wires going into it from the inside, I KNEW that some COOL STUFF was gonna be on the outside !!!  That's where the mic's are located at (One on each ear.)   I have already got this one ---------------and am going to (someday,  Grin) start to work on it, but I 100% think how you got yours installed is AWESOME !!!   Can you tell me if you did this AFTER you were approved or were they installed before you were approved and you were still able to be ok to get in ?

Thank You Again for sharing...

It DOES help...  I've seen stuff about lens fogging and all and I've been thinking on this for a while.  I am a certified Scuba Diver and was thinking of trying out "Divers Spit" or several other diver type anti fog solutions to see if they would work or not.  I'm sure that the fans will go in anyway, because I do live in Texas and it kinda gets hot here !  Grin...     As for your environmental hearing, is it the same as the kits from Radio Shack ? ------------

If you have the time to post some images that would be cool.

Dan - this is my second bucket after I was approved. Im not sure what the rules are in terms of cutting visible holes in your ears, but Im guessing if you try and hide them with a bit of paint, you will at least be granted basic approval.

As for the mic-in-ears technique, I got the idea from Tony's (ukswrath) BUILD THREAD. So much skill and talent there!

My mic/amp kit is THIS ONE

The speakers also came in the kit...they're not really loud enough. Im yet to take it out into the public to see if it works ok. But if I put some earbuds on instead of using the speakers - I can hear a pin drop two rooms away!

I did try the mic in the hovi tips as well.....but they are too close to the fans and pick up a lot of vibration and echo. Feedback was also a problem. The good thing about this way, if you can get it to work, is that its directional. So you only really hear what you are looking at. With the mics in the ears I have almost 360 degrees of hearing, which can be quite annoying after awhile.

As for the ears, took me forever just sanding and sanding and filing and then more sanding. I will post a picture of my first bucket when I have some time so you can see how rough it is compared to this one. Its all a learning curve innit. I read pretty much ALL the threads on ears. So made it a point to get it right with my next build and I think I nailed the ears at least 95%....maybe...HAHA! :P Im happy anyways..with the ears at least. :) Now the handpainting is another story......

Hey Dan like Hans said there are so many options out there, heck you may come up with the next great idea.
