I don't know if any of you watch, or are even familiar with the show Comic Book Men, on AMC. I watch it from time to time after The Walking Dead's replay.

If you're not familiar with it, it takes place in Kevin Smith's Comic Book store in New Jersey.

***** IF YOU DO WATCH IT: SPOILER ALERT *****

Anyway, tonight, Billy Dee Williams comes into the store, and he's looking to buy a very large Millennium Falcon as a gift for his grandson. The store happens to have one, but there are only 500 of them known to exist in the world, so they want $1500 for it. Billy Dee offers $500. The store clerk (Walt) says "So in the Empire Strikes Back, what was the story, about how you lost the Millennium Falcon again, anyway?" Billy Dee Williams recounts how he lost it in a card game, and Walt says something to the effect of "We've got a poker table in the back, what do you say we play a game of cards for it? You win, you name your price, I win, it's $1500." Billy Dee agrees, and so the most intense game of Go Fish that you've ever seen begins.

Billy Dee picks up his cards and says "Hello, what have we here?"

Ultimately, Billy Dee wins the game, and as he places his last pair on the table, he puts his hands behind his head, smiles and says "Don't let the smooth taste fool ya" and laughs.

It was pretty funny, so nicely played to AMC and Comic Book Men. LoL

I've only seen the show once and liked it very much... unfortunately my wife didn't. But I got her to watch the walking dead with me, and just that was great in itself. Do you think it was a scripted event, or did it really happen that way. Either way its still really awesome!

I tend to believe that it was scripted.  They do occasionally have celebrities wander into the store and have some rather meaningful interaction with the staff/crew.  As you said, either way, it was really awesome.  :D

The show is 100% scripted. Except the transactions are real. You need to apply to get on the show and sell something, but, the sale itself and the price paid is real.

I know this because like I said, I'm a big Kevin Smith fan and I listen to a couple of his podcasts. One of them is Tell'em Steve Dave, with Walter, Bryan and Brian Quinn, if some of you watchs Impractical Jokers, he's in that show.

They should have asked him about the guy who steals the ice cream maker. Someone needs to hunt him down, The Empire need ice cream!  :)

Kevin Smith is awesome...   Soooo excited that Clerks 3 is going to happen.   We could do with Jay and Silent Bob Awaken also.  :D

NICE!!!  I saw a post someplace asking "Did Kevin Smith just announce Mallrats 2" but I didn't see anything confirming it.

Good news!!!

As someone who has worked as cam op on pawnstars, it's definitely scripted. Well not line reading scripted. But, a story producer helps write the plot with definite beats to hit. Then in production we make sure we get the story beats we need.

Also, if it's similar to pawnstars, which I would suspect it is because the format is essentially the same, sometimes the sales aren't real. It real depends. It's cast though. So sometimes people just want to come in and pretend to sell something that makes a cool main story. It follows a format of one main story that can span the length of the episode and two side stories to break the main story up.

Still a fun show and I watch it regularly.
