So i finaly got my helmet together and was dissapointed to see that even after all of my effort i still had semi-large gaps in the front of one of my ears between the hemet and the earpiece. :6: Has anyone figured out a good way to fill these gaps? Im cinsidering bondo but dont know how shiny ill be able to get it or if it will even come close to matching the color of my helmet.

Please help an ocd trooper!

Well gaps are accurate, but for those wanting to seal them up white caulk works well. Bright white DAP is a very close match for ABS.

Dude, I sell new ears if you want a set. But gaps are fine.

A good tip is to use comb profilers. the kind of thing a carpenter or fitter would use on corner pieces. Loads of little teeth in a row. You push it onto the lid and then draw the outline onto the ear.

Like I said, gaps are fine but if it's really messy I can sell you another pair. If it's as screen accurate lid.

PM if you need some

Im just as OCD as you are when it comes to ear gaps apparently. I filled in my gaps with bondo and sanded them smooth and shiny. Check out my Helmet build thread in my signature. It shows my whole ear delimma. I'm very satisfied with my bondoed ears. I did get some hairline fractures in my bondo when I put in my neck trim but I touched them up afterwards with some caulking.

smitty,

will the bondo route work for ABS??? i have an AP lid and i dont know if the bondo will be as shinny and slick

If you use bondo you will have to repaint the helmet. Bondo is a burgundy color. If you look in my building thread you will see my helmet in the early stages with red spots all over it. That stuff is bondo. So if you bondo, painting the helmet is a requirement.

I may co the caulk route then, because i have all of my stuff on my helmet already and i dont feel like paying for new everything. The ear is nice and snug on one side but there is a 1/4 inch or so gap on the other. Ive also seen white marine bondo which i think may be painted locally, if anyone knows anything about this let me know.

:) Good Day all. I'm about 70% complete my FX helm, and yes I have some gap's. Not really bad one's this time, and both ear's are about the same, so for now I'll just let them be :)

As gaps in the ears are screen accurate, perhaps that needs to be added to the Elite requirements? B)
