RS shipment held in US customs

Hi folks,

 

I ordered a kit from RS Propmasters and they used OCS to deliver it. Apparently my shipment has been held at Customs since May 1st. I spoke to RS and they told me the currier would like to speak to me. Has anyone experienced this before? What kind of information do you think the currier wants? Am I in jeopardy of losing my kit? The shipment was being sent from UK to US.

Edit: customs required extra tax money. Everything is ok.

If it's at customs may be a Tax thing... Or the box was damaged!!! Let us know what happen's...

I just got off the phone with JFK customs. I had to pay extra tax. I did it over the phone and my shipments are now in transit. Phew...

 

I bet those dang customs guys played with my blaster.

Was it a lot, if you don't mind me asking?  The reason I ask is I have to plan my purchases out, and I would be pretty upset if I don't have enough set aside in case I run into the same issue.  If it's something like $300-400, then I've got to do some shuffling on my finances to cover.

 

If it's something you don't want to share, I'll understand.

Lady at JFK customs said anything over $200.00 of value is subject to additional tax. I did get a stunt kit, blaster, boots and holster. So it was a lot of stuff.

Considering the value of the shipment, it sounds like you got away cheap. Most countries have a lot more import tax. When I imported a Fett costume from the US I paid $400+ something in VAT and fees.

That's why you get them to declare the value as something like 100.00

I do that on smaller shipments. But the Fett came in two big boxes. It's quite unlikely that those would only be worth a few hundred.
