Sonnenschein
There are lots of threads on how to trim your armor to your size. Do some reading. A heat gun is a bad idea and def not the right way To give you some starters: look for overlap and covering strip method Edited August 20, 2012 by Sonnenschein

Search butt join method, read it, read build threads or wip threads to see lots of pics and get different opinions. The Detachement is full of it! A bit research work will give you tons of infos and safes a lot of hassle! Dr
LadyInWhite[TK]
Also, what size are you and what type of armor? You can get more specific help if you show pics, too But the best places to go are tutorials and build threads. Everyone's been there in your situation one way or another
Sonnenschein
Indeed, "Butt join" is another name for "overlapping (strips). I just don't like the word "butt"

Sonnenschein
Either way, you wil have to trim it. Most armors come with extra space for "bigger" troopers. Pics help a lot. We're all quite visual here

bobojuice
I used a heat gun almost exclusively to shape my girlfriend's armor to fit her, so it can be done. You just have to be EXTREMELY careful not to over heat or you WILL ruin your armor.

bobojuice
Right, but you're an experienced armor/prop builder. Not particularly. I have to admit, 90 percent of the time I have no idea what I'm doing.
Sonnenschein
So there's still 10% left, which can be a lot! I hope Davy will post some pics soon, so we will know if it is just extra material to be trimmed away or if he'll really need a heat gun
