Sonnenschein Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 I'm trying to restore some chrome toy parts (playmobil) where the chrome is severly rubbedof. Can I use Rub'n'Buff for a nice finish? Are there any other possibilities? I tried a two part spray can in the past, but the result were ugly. Thanks, Karin Quote
matt black Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 There is a chrome spray that you can get but I forget who makes it. I think it could be plasticote? It works just like acrylic spray paint. On the can it says something like '95% as mirrored as chrome'. I'll have a search. Quote
Sonnenschein Posted May 11, 2012 Author Report Posted May 11, 2012 Thanks! But most of those 1 part spray rubbing of easily. Unless they found something new finally! Quote
matt black Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 http://chromepaint.com/liquid-chrome/ Would this be any good? Quote
Sonnenschein Posted May 11, 2012 Author Report Posted May 11, 2012 That looks interesting, thanks! Ab it pricy, though. I think I need some time to understand all this technical stuff. But it looks promising! Quote
BananoPower22[TK] Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 I wouldn't recommend it honestly, it's not that chrome-ish... you might want to try it though, it might work for you. i got it for like 5 or 3 USD at ebay Quote
BananoPower22[TK] Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 I'll try to rub it on some left over plastic tomorrow so you can see how it looks Quote
Darth Voorhees[501st] Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 (edited) Yea, im my experience, chrome paint of any kind never looks chrome. Those chrome toy parts were electroplated most likely. But for your purposes you may be able to use the one mentioned and it may be close enough Im curious myself to see how this paint looks Juan. Locitus[Admin] Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Those making jango fett costumes sometimes use it for their armour. Should be pretty straight forward to use. Rub it down on thing. let it dry for a short while. Buff it up to gloss. Quote
BananoPower22[TK] Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Sorry for not posting the pics, I can't find the little darned tube of Rub n buff >_< sorry folks. Either way, it's not that shiny, but it gives out the aspect of being sort of chromeish. I used it on bondo and the result wasn't that pleasing, perhaps on plastic/sintra (what most mando makers use) it's better. for my mando build i used these the effect (first couple of days, after a week or two it started to lose its shine) Quote
