bluehickey Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I made my own holster with genuine black leather from the leather store, but the leather is so soft that when I wear it and walk around it does a lot of flopping around on my leg. I'd like to do something to the leather to stiffen it up so the leather is more firm. Anyone have any suggestions? Quote
gh05ty Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 you could try soaking it in water then drying it out with some heat BUT! beware it may shrink - or try running a few lines of cheap superglue down the inner length of it to crate some rigid lines. Quote

TK bondservnt[501st] Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) holsters are supposed to flop around. soaking leather in water will cause it to roll and buckle. hope you don't damage the finish! and the threads can wear out if soaked too long. best way to stiffen leather is with leather supplies! in the original film the holster is not thick at all like a gun holster, it's supposed to flop around!! I have both thick and thin versions for troopers who want each type. the thin version has a slight texture to it, and the thick version I sell has a smooth finish. the inside of the hide on both types has a suede type of texture. remember, leather is not just fabric... it's alive! the tanning process has a lot to do with how long it will last. doing anything like soaking in water will most likely ruin it! Two quick baths in hot water from my tap, let it dry on the radiator in between baths.. and the last time a quick soak and then put my blaster inside it and ran a hairdryer across it until dry. Quote
