  1. I've read through the thread on your RoTJ armor a couple of times and I have saved some of the pictures for reference. If you're using VaderDave buttons did you have to paint the dark blue ones yourself? I've thought about buying those buttons but I remember reading VaderDave's description where he says that his RoTJ buttons are all black. That's why I've hesitated on the purchase. I'm still finalizing the logistics of a snap system for the AP kit my wife and I are preparing to buy. I'm thinking of using a few white metal side-release buckles for holding up the thighs and for the main suspenders holding the ab and lower back pieces, using heavy duty snaps for most of the other pieces, and a little bit of Industrial strength Velcro to hold the shoulder straps in place (as decoration not as support).
  2. Thanks a lot! That is actually a tremendous help. I've been straining my eyes looking at photos of RoTJ suits and I could only definitively identify one dark blue button though I knew that there were more. I appreciate your response and again, I thank you. That elusive detail was a touch irritating and I'm relieved to both have an answer and to have the information available to other RoTJ troopers.
  3. You're right, these were made in larger sizes. I actually found a pair of these in my size a short while earlier today. I found them online in a UK store. I had to laugh when I found out that they won't ship internationally, though. So the search continues.
  4. Good suggestion. Thanks. I e-mailed Dr. Martens about the sizing of these boots. I'll see what kind of response, if any, that I get. If these boots aren't made in the right size, any guy that wears anything over a men's US size ten will still have to consider the SFP boots. The downside to the SFP boots, though, is that they don't look very rigid to me. We don't seem to have many options here.
  5. I'm still really liking these Dr. Martens as a RoTJ alternative. The big difference between these and screen-used boots, though, is the additional stitching on the boots. It's been noted, though, that CaBoots have a bit of additional stitching as well. Has there been an answer as to whether these Dr. Martens are EIB acceptable for an RoTJ stormtrooper? As an additional note, I've only ever found these boots in a maximum men's size of UK 9, USA 10. I have recently e-mailed Dr. Martens to see if these boots have ever been made in a larger size. I'll post any response I get here. I didn't think of myself as a Bigfoot with size 11s and I'm a bit surprised to have not found these boots in my size.
  6. They may be unisex. But they're still too small. The largest size I've seen anywhere is a US mens size nine (9). I wear an 11 so these are definitely too small.
  7. Thanks for reminding me of those boots. I read that thread before and even posted in the thread. I like these Doc Marten boots and I have hunted for them through the internet. Unfortunately, I've never found them in a big enough size. This leads me to believe that they're a woman's boot. Since I'm working on a RoTJ trooper I want white-soled boots. So far, this points me towards the SFP boots.
  8. I wonder what other RoTJ stormtroopers do for boots. Yes, I know that CaBoots are a popular choice among many troopers but is it correct for us? And yes, I have searched the forums for an answer. From what I've read, the RoTJ stormtrooper had at least two different color boot soles... tan and white. I've not yet found a pair of stormtrooper boots with a tan sole though I have seen them with white soles. To date, I've only ever found the white-soled variety offered by Star Fortress Productions on eBay. Now I have read various opinions on this seller elsewhere on these boards and so I say now that this discussion has nothing to do with anyone's personal thoughts on this seller. Please keep your thoughts in this regard to yourself. This discussion is about the boots themselves. As I am seeing it, in order to achieve the complete RoTJ stormtrooper look, if we want white-soled boots, then we've got little choice but to seriously look at and consider these boots. After all, a boot made with white soles will inherently look better than a buyer's attempt to paint black soles white. Lacking any other options I likely will buy these boots in order to achieve the right look. Has anyone ever owned these boots? And if so, what is your opinion of them?
  9. I've been researching this both in the FISD boards and elsewhere on the internet. However, I haven't found a definite answer on this... What is the button color pattern for the RoTJ ab plate? ie. which ones are black and which ones are dark blue? For that matter, what dark blue is used? From the EIB requirements... *Ab plate will be be 3 dark blue and the rest black, unlike the ANH/ESB coloration. And yes, I know that the ab plate buttons are upside-down when compared to the ANH ones. Thanks, in advance, for your response.
  10. If you can find a way to wear a cool vest underneath a set of TK armor and keep it hidden then I say go for it. As a professional Santa Claus I can attest to the benefits of the cool vest. Many Santas wear them and it's a necessity for me as a Santa because Christmas comes to Australia in the summer. My cool vest is an amazing thing and I recommend it to anyone. It would be tough to wear one as a TK unless you can find one in black to blend in with the body suit. And they can be bulky when fully loaded ( I have a phase change cooling vest). I use my cooling vest to round out my Santa belly because I'm lucky not to be that big naturally.
  11. I agree with you. I've never seen the E-11 holstered either. But since the holster is there it had to be discussed. I've seen both right-handed and left-handed holsters for sale and to avoid confusion for myself and for anyone else working on a RoTJ build the E-11 holster had to be discussed. This was the one detail that was nagging at me. and although I could reason my way through it I thought it better to discuss it with others and get someone else's point of view.
  12. Simple Paypal transactions have gone awry for me as well, even after triple-checking e-mail addresses. It's something internal with the Paypal system that has been goofing up a lot of folks. I finally got around it by having the other person send me a money request. Even though the same e-mail addresses were used on both of our parts that solved the problem.
  13. It's a real good question, though... do these Doc Marten's work for an RoTJ stormtrooper? By and large, they look right. And considering the brand they ought to hold up well.
  14. Thank you for that. Logically, that's the only way it could work. I appreciate you looking into it.
  15. I know the EIB requirements for this. Unfortunately, they don't clarify whether the holster is a right-handed or a left-handed holster. To the casual observer you'd think that it would be a right-handed holster because it's located on the right hand side. But because of the shape of the E-11 it would actually require the holster to be a left-handed holster worn on the right-hand side if you were to ever holster the E-11. And that oddity is why I've created this thread, to clarify precisely which type of holster a RoTJ troooper needs to possess if he's going to use one.
  16. If you're going to holster the weapon then it would have to be cross-draw. And if that's the case You'd have to wear a left-handed holster on the right side of the body and the holster would have to be facing backwards in order to accommodate the E-11. Does anyone disagree with this?
  17. Understood. There were a few troopers in Jedi wearing holsters on the right side, though... I can't quite tell though I suspect it to be a right-handed holster. It makes no sense with the E-11's magazine on the left side of the weapon but there the holster is.
  18. After a fruitless search through the forums I find that I need to ask about the RoTJ E-11 holster... Is the RoTJ holster a right-handed holster (which makes no sense with the E-11's configuration)? Or is the RoTJ holster a left-handed holster worn backwards on the right-hand side (which gives us an awkward cross-draw)?
  19. I'm wondering about this as well. I've PMed TK 4510 and he has told me hat no one makes accurate RoTJ decals. At least not for an AP bucket. He has started an interest list for T*E ROTJ Decals, though. In light of this, what do the rest of us do... use ESB decals and leave it at that? I'd appreciate hearing a response from any RoTJ stormtrooper that's done their decals. I did find this site, though... http://www.trooperdecals.com/ This guy does offer RoTJ bucket decals. They're identical to his ESB ones, I think, though. A lot of folks are using TK 4510's ESB decals for their ROTJ buckets and so I think we'll just use those until he decides to make a dedicated RoTJ version.
  20. Understood that this is a tour suit. Should they be left off a RoTJ bucket or put in?
  21. If the RoTJ stormtroopers are all using the standard E-11 then I guess the holster is mere decoration. That or it's a left-handed holster worn on the right side for an incredibly awkward cross-draw. Either way, it seems easier to just carry the blaster all the time.
  22. I've got no problem switching to the right hand if you're an ANH stormtrooper. But what does a RoTJ trooper do when their holster is supposed to be worn on the right hand side of their body?
  23. While I understand that the E-11, due to the magazine, has to be holstered on the left side it gets confusing for a RoTJ stormtrooper. Their holsters are worn on the right side. It seems that they have to hold their E-11 at all times and the holster is mere decoration. Or they move their holster to the right side and carry the blaster backwards. That just seems awkward.
