Good research! My opinion is that you can make any of the suits fit if your willing to put the time into it. I have the FX kit myself mainly because I am a BIG trooper and needed the extra room but if you dont have the midsection I do, then you should be able to do most of the armor out there. If you decide to go with the FX kit, PM for a great source.

Steven has a great tutorial on them here if you want to make them yourself: ------------ He's not doing the kits anymore unfortunately. I can make you a kit if you like though. PM me for details.

If you have a wide foot yes. They come in D width.

Thanx but I was asking how tall other peoples seals were to compare mine to the ones already in production.
-
I just read on the EU boards that there are 501st members in the area trooping at the local shelters to cheer up the people there. I salute the CA Garrisons and all the troopers making a difference!

How tall is the neck seal supposed to be? 2" 2.5" 3" What? Please give me some measurements. I got the material in for the prototype of the Trooper Suit and hope to have it together this weekend. Just need to know how tall to make the seal. Thanx.

Speakers...in the helmet or voice amp?
VaderDave replied to TK-9805's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I meant to say that I connected a seperate mini jack to the wires that were attached directly to the original speaker on the amp. Maybe I should post a pic of my setup. Might help someone else that way. -
I use clear package shipping tape to hold the pieces of the FX bucket together while I work on it. I tried the handymans secret weapon (duct tape) but it tended not to hold that great. Clear package tape however grabs onto the ABS bigtime and keeps things where you want them, and then it peels off clean with little to no residue. Peel slowly.

Speakers...in the helmet or voice amp?
VaderDave replied to TK-9805's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Well that was it. There are two mini jacks on the RS amp board. One is the input jack and one is for earphones. Because of this it puts out far less volume that the speaker itself. Makes sense as they dont want to blow peoples eardrums out, I guess. I soldered a seperate jack directly to the wires that were attached to the speaker and connected everything up. I then promptly blew my eardrums out...oops...next time I will check the volume first... -
Speakers...in the helmet or voice amp?
VaderDave replied to TK-9805's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I will try that. Everything was good until I did the mods. I will try to hook the amp speaker wires to a different jack and not use the one on the board. As I said I can hear voice and sound out of the speakers but I have to hold them up to my ear and then its barely audible. -
Speakers...in the helmet or voice amp?
VaderDave replied to TK-9805's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Hey Carlos, When you gutted the RS amp, did you connect your aerator speakers to the wires that were connected to the amp speaker? I kinda did the same thing but I connected them up using mini plugs and plugged it into the jack on the side of the amp board. I get almost no sound but I do get sound. All I can think of is that the jack is made for earphones and has a lower output than the direct wires. What do you think? Help! -
Did you get the regular kit or the Economy kit mentioned in this thread?

confused about blue tube stripes
VaderDave replied to Laspector's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Hi Darrel, If you go to the following site: www.starwarshelmets.com then click on real props then click on Stormtroopers then click on ANH Scroll down to the close up shots of the actual helmets in the display cases and you will clearly see that the tube stripes are a blue color and not black, however most screen caps show up as black. Hope this helps. -

Ok, I can see and understand these points. I too like accuracy and proportion but I guess until someone makes a truly affordable "accurate" kit for both smaller and larger people, I personally would not support an outright ban on the FX bucket for elite standards because any way you look at it, a different bucket means additional expense at this time. Who knows however what the future will bring. Hmmm...a bigger and smaller accurate kit....hmmmm.......
-
I'm afraid that I must agree with Carlos. As a newbie under construction, some of us that wish to go for elite status cant afford to upgrade the helmet as we spent most of our money on the rest of the armor. I can do all the rest of the standards because they are basically mods to the kit but to outright replace a perfectly good bucket just to comply with the elite status would be beyond my price range at the moment. But I have a question. What EXACTLY is it about the FX bucket that has people all hot and bothered by it? Yes it is bigger than the others, has the wrong aerators and the trapezoids are too big but is there anything else that is glaringly "wrong" with it? It seems that the only people that complain about it are the troopers. I have never seen any of the public that we entertain, and face it, thats what most of us are in this for, ever come up to someone using an FX bucket and say, "Isnt your head too big?" Dont get me wrong...I have been a Star Wars Fanatic since I saw it in 77 at 12 years old and I am all for being accurate. I spent over $4000.00 on my Vader for just that reason BUT no one and I mean no one but us, sees any kind of difference between what is on screen and what we are wearing. FX bucket included. As someone getting ready to join the 501st and hopefully apply for elite status with the FISD, I wonder sometimes with everything I have seen, that perhaps we might be getting a bit out of hand on the subject of "screen accuracy". I am all for standards, though. No one wants to see the "duct tape" or "paper machie" trooper get into the legion. I just dont see why a properly put together FX bucket with the proper aerators and lenses and the proper number of teeth in the frown should be excluded from Elite Status. Unless I am glaringly missing something...if I am please relay me the information so I can understand. Just my 2 cents.

Just in case anyone is interested, I am ordering fabric tomorrow to do the prototype for a Trooper Suit. It will contain the following features: Pattern actually cut to wearers measurements. Choice of Heavy Duty Spandex Material or Dri-Tek. Both foot and hand stirrups. 1 or 2 chest pockets. Abrasion panels in crotch area to prevent cod armor from rubbing through. Full length double ended zipper or 2 zippers in front seam. Opens from top for entry or bottom for "relief" purposes. Neck Seal would be included and made from fully washable materials and would attach to neck via velcro tabs or snaps. (No more neck seal "blowouts"). No collar on suit can also be an option if you want to continue to use your present dickey style neck seal. Velcro patches or snaps on top of shoulders to connect shoulder bell straps to (if desired). If there are any additional features that you think would make trooping more enjoyable, please feel free to send them my way. I welcome all input.

O.S.C.S. = Imperial Surplus Just a clarification. -
I have a patch maker that does super quality work and has IMHO the cheapest prices in the entire country. (and believe me, I've looked) If the FISD is interested in producing patches, I would be happy to help. Feel free to contact me by PM or email anytime.
