1. I'd share some short people jokes, but they'd probably just go over your head...I will show myself out now.
2. That's really the best pic I've seen in a while. It has a Lion King vibe going.
3. That's crazy cheap! I paid almost $50 for a dozen at Princess Auto! I demand a do-over! I had no idea Home Depot carried them. Do you recall what section of the store? I'm not sure if they're hardware or tool and their website isn't being exactly helpful.
Just noticed now that you're in Windsor, CT, but I misread as Windsor, ON. Big difference in our dollar right now. Probably explains a lot.
4. Alright, I haven't been updating this thing obviously, but I sure have been busy working on my kit. When I ordered this box of plastic I can honestly say I had no idea what I was getting into.
I know a proper update with pictures etc. is needed and I hope to put together something this weekend that better illustrates the degree of progress I've made, as it seems that all my spare time is spent building.
10 straight hours of building here today and it still doesn't look like I'm any closer to the end. The last few weekends have been similar, and I'm sure the wife is happy to have me out of her hair too. I picked a great project to be obsessive compulsive about, because this thing is never going to freaking end! There may be an actual Death Star by the time I'm done. I had to trim one of my very limited supply of split rivets with the Dremel earlier today, when the Dremel finally caught it and launched it... POOF! Jedi Mind Trick... That was no longer the rivet I was looking for! Time for a break for now.
BTW, I had no idea that "WTF" was another community based acronym... I just added that to the title for laughs. Sorry Walt.
5. I got those same clamps when I started to go with some other kinds that I already had. I bet you probably think you'll never need that many clamps at one time don't you? Ha! Boy, was I surprised too.
Where'd you get the magnets from, if I might ask?
6. I don't know why, but I always picture people wearing the armor while doing this in some cartoonish fashion, when in reality I know it would be absolutely horrific. Or, for example, I need to bath my forearms, but imagine myself just wearing them while in the shower or something.
7. I've seen many posts from disappointed and frustrated troopers that didn't properly heed this advice. No experience with either, but everyone always says if you're going to go the heat gun route then to make sure you get comfortable using it on some scrap ABS first.
8. Only one liver? This guy said I had two, and he's a doctor. I never thought of it until now, but other than this armor, I don't have a single other piece of Star Wars merchandise. Not one piece. Funny that it never occurred to me until now. It actually just kind of blew my mind given all the work and research I've been putting into this armor lately. Oh well, better to have one really cool piece, I guess.
9. Thanks Tony, I will go with the line 24's as that's what I have handy. Great tutorials BTW. If you were able to generate ad revenue from the number of views they got, I'm pretty sure I'd have been able to put your kids through college due to the number of times I've referenced them.
10. Thanks Terry. Good advice here. Actually it was exactly what I was looking for. Happy Canada Day!
11. Wait... ...are you Bruce Campbell?Oh and uber-congrats on your EIB! Good work trooper.
12. Ha! I sold one of my livers and am now crippled by debt. I don't feel so good all of a sudden. I think that might have been the liver I used to filter out the high quantities of remorse I'm prone to. No biggie, still got awesome armour! Woohoo!
13. C-clamps will work, but they will move around more when you tighten them. The spring clamps are pretty cheap. I picked up a bag of 22 assorted sizes, HDX brand from Home Depot for $8. Do you work around an office? Grab a handful of the black folding binder clips.
14. Hmmmm... taking crotch advice from a strange panda over the Internet. I kinda feel like my parents should have warned me about things like this.
Does it matter if I use line 20 or line 24 snaps on the butt plate?
15. Good point. I guess I got plenty of warning.
16. I dunno. For all I know you might have really poor cardio or be a super chicken but I bet you could have still beaten her up if nobody was watching. I kid, I kid... Wasn't like you did it on purpose. This is actually one of the things that terrifies me about trooping and what prompted me to post the question after reading about somebody else clocking some poor kid with their blaster. I think I'm going to keep mine holster.
17. At my work we call those 30/30's because they either stick on for 30 minutes or 30 years, depending on the batch. Nice fan setup BTW.
18. Does anybody have any tips for improving the ability to see out of one of these lids?
For example is it better to go with the hard hat liner over the padding to position the helmet at a better angle to look through the eyes? Perhaps somebody has found a better method for trimming the eyes or mounting the lenses that improve your ability to see?
I'm guess this is just the way that it is, and probably one of the many reasons we need handlers.
19. That is very cool Rick. Congratulations. This has been a very awesome thread to follow. I learned a lot from it. It's been a great contribution to these boards.
20. Did you mold the lenses yourself? They look pretty good.
21. Yup. Ended up finding a local supply store. Actually more of a hardware store.
The key search terms I was missing was dark green face shield for anybody that might be in the same shoes. Looks like I was able to order a full face shield for $10. Looks like it will be fairly thick to so it should cut up and mold nicely. Thanks magni.
22. The resourcefulness here is amazing. You remind me of that MacGuyver-type uncle everybody talks about who built his own seven bedroom cabin carved from a single piece of wood and powered by one AA battery. This is an impressive build.
23. Ah, so these are required for EIB and Centurion statuses then. I'm certainly aiming for those after I get my basic approval.
Do the color of these snaps matter? Is brass okay or silver?
