1. I have been waiting for my doopy's kit to arrive,(still waiting) but I did get the scope and counter in, so I began there. I began with the counter cleaning all the excess resin out. I wasn't happy with the back box so I filed in down and scratch built another one. I used nails with speaker spade ends and used JB weld for the pins on the counter. They are just sitting in place until I put the wires on. Also worked on my scope. I hollowed out the insides and added the lenses for the back and front

I also cut out my pvc but that's all I can do until my other parts arrive. I am building 2 of these. One for my son and one for me. His is the practice build to help familiarize myself and will most likely be more of the ESB version. Mine will be aluminum pipe and I would like the stock, handle and magazine holder to be aluminum as well, but we will see. I also scratch made some T-track that I posted in another thread.

Well, that's all I can do for now. I will most likely start drilling out my 38mm aluminum pipe this week. I'm using Aarons awesome muzzle kit and building my blaster around it. Feedback is always welcome so please feel free. thanks for looking

  2. I reported on my find a short while back and as promised, here is a tutorial on how to make these yourself if you choose. The total cost for me was 6.00 dollars and very easy to make, once I got the kinks out that is.

Start with the 1/4 inch angle stock from plastruct. Evergreen sells the same product however the lenghts are smaller and will cost double. The plastruct comes in 24 inch lenghts and cost 1.50 per stick. You will need 4 total.

    now glued together

    cut into 8 inch lengths

now comes the tricky part that I had to work out. First I tried to heat, then bend. didn't work. Then I decided to make a jig using some washers are screws. Very simple and all you need to do is build it around the shape of the track. Once I built my jig, I heated the track up once more, then put it in the jig, however still didn't work. finally I tried to put the track in, and then apply heat. That worked. Gave me nice square bends.

    and finally

Well, that's all folks. nice and easy. Made from simple styrene angle stock.

    What do you think.

  3. WHOA! Thanks for the highlighting, Ian. I didn't notice that before, but I see it now! I'm going to take an educated guess here...

I'd be willing to bet the highlighted differences are due to the fact that my Sterling replica is based on parts made at the government owned Fazakerley facility.

We've already seen other differences such as the infamous "slotted versus solid extractor" which created a small ruckus here several months ago.

Little differences like this make my replica even more valuable to me.

Take a look at this link for more background history:

    http://sterlingl2a3.com/markings-and-spares/

There's a lot of cool stuff on that website if you click around on the tabs at the top of the page.

Sterling apparently beefed up or changed certain areas of the gun over the years and this could be another one of those subtle changes.

OR, it could just be a difference between the caps being manufactured at the Sterling and Fazakerley factories.

Difficult to say for sure, but leave it to you guys to notice such things! I learned something today!

    Kevin, you're making me laugh!!!

    that's what I'm here for
  4. Hello all. I have been studying the blaster reference piece by piece as I am working on and I have drilled out my scope and fit the monocular lense in the front just like the photos shown but I don't see anything about the smaller end of the scope as far as installing the lense. Are there any links that have addressed that area or any tips on what others have done. Thanks in advance.Kevin

  5. Just got the Shapeways power cylinders last week. Not accurate as shown on their website.

What do You think about them?

I have nothing to compare them to in all honesty. I am making 2 blasters, 1 for my son(accuracy not a must) and 1 for me that will be fully detailed so I am going for full accuracy. I can always use the shape ways on my sons. They look nice and they are clean so all in all I lIke them. I believe he is still tweaking them so if they become fully accurate I would buy another one. They are thin on the bottom plate so hopefully he thickens that part.

  6. I see some templates in the background on some builders logs, but I can't find any here. Looking for folding stock, magazine holder, trigger assembly and a hengstler counter. Thanks in advance Kevin

  7. I bought the detail kit that you saw, no counter or scope. However I did purchase the counter and scope on a separate order. Those have arrived but still waiting on the kit. I bought my power cylinders off shape ways designed by themainthesuitcase and those arrived as well. So many options to choose from so I have been reading as much as possible. Good luck with your decision. Hope this helps.
Kevin

  8. That's the kit I ordered along with a few other goodies. Bought the counter and scope from dd, the muzzel kit from Aron, a few shape ways pieces by themainthesuitcase power cells, end cap, front site guide and back cap latch. Bought the scope monoclonal off ebay to modify my resin scope, (the link was given to me from here)
excited but still waiting
