1. Hello all, again with the reading and find myself trying to get it right. Sorry.
green stuff. Is the official name green stuff putty from kneadatite
also another doopydoos question. How long does shipping take them. I ordered the base pipe detail kit about a week before I ordered a scope and counter. The scope and counter arrived but still waiting on the kit.
and last question, a recommendation on a good saw for resin. What do you like or prefer.

I do spend alot of time reading however I'm not having luck finding those answers
Thanks in advance
Kevin

  2. Hey, I found posting pics was a pain until I realised that clicking 'Request Desktop site', on the ipad, opened-up a whole load of new options, including inserting photobucket direct links etc.

Edit: Tracks look great btw. I love a bit of DIY ingenuity :)

Thank you, I need to play around with this. I think this worked out but my hobby shop sells 2 versions of this angle stock, 1 is a generic cut piece and they also sell evergreen which is very good and square cuts. It's a little more expensive but a much better quality than the bin pieces which may be seconds. I will post my results to share with those that may give it a try. And once I figure out how to post pictures better I can post a full tutorial.
  3. So along with anything we do, it's trial and error. However, I believe it worked out fine once I got the kinks out. After making a mess of the first bend, I decided on making a jig out a couple washers and wood scraps. Then I stuck the track in and hit it with my heat gun for a couple seconds and bent it with ease. As you can see I got better at it as I went. So for 1.50 a stick, I believe it's worth it.

  4. Hello all. I have been doing alot of reading here and thanks for all the posted info, it's great. I do have a new to resin question however. I plan on drilling out my scope and other modifications to other parts so how are you hollowing out these parts? What kind of saw blade are you using to cut without breaking the piece? Do I start small and work my way up to the dimensions needed? Thanks in advance. Kevin

  5. Some goodies arrived today. Also bought some styrene angle strips that I posted a thread on. Funny, I ordered my detail kit a week before I ordered my counter and scope. The scope is here but not the kit.I guess thats while we call it WIP. I really like the resin, this is my first time with it, and my power cylinders by themainthesuitcase from shape ways look really nice. They are thin on the bottom so I need to be careful.post-27492-0-80919300-1455659510_thumb.jpg

  6. I went to my local hobby shop and found some 1/4 inch styrene angle strips x 24 inches long for 1.50 each so seeing how I am making 2 of these, one for my son and a more accurate one for myself, I decided to give it a go.I already have styrene glue and milled pieces so its not costing me however, if you dont have any of the glue, my total cost would have been 11 dollars for the glue and 4 sticks. I will build them and show my results. I'm just holding these together in the picture to give you an idea. They are not glued yet. I figure I can file a rounded edge on top and if need be, use a flat piece of styrene on the bottom for a more accurate finish.

  7. Thanks for the info. I guess you can call me a prop builder,I am currently working on a few projects at a time.
Also a member of astromech and I am building an r2 unit as well as 2 sabers and 2 blasters.
graflex and mpp
dl44 denix build and my scratch/kit e11.
I like to collect info and files or pieces for my next projects in que. I have a strange builders method by building till I get stuck or run out of parts and move to the next while I wait or figure my next step out. It works for me. I think I will put the stormtrooper helmet on hold and save up to buy an accurate kit and I believe you are correct with the pepakura. It was just an idea and I'm glad I asked because I got the answers I needed.

  8. ok, needed to shrink my pictures however I took all my progress pictures with my tablet and I need to figure out how to make them fit so I had to use my phone take these. (really need to buy another lap top)

Anyway, time for my first question during my build. In the bottom picture you will see I havent cut the holes because the template stated, if using a resin stock, dont cut. Is this because the stock hides them or it is going to cause issues if I cut them. I do plan on cutting the holes out in the resin stock if that helps with an answer. Thanks in advance, Kevin

  9. Ok, how do I post pictures? I have alot of shop tools, bench sander and drill press, bench grinder, router table so they really help and speed up my cuts. Finished my pvc cuts with the exception of the handle and magazine. Used a file to make the flat area at the bayonet. Used my cutting wheel on the dremel as well. Now I'm on to the next one. Once I figure out how to post pictures I will share. What a fun project.

  10. So it begins. I will make 2 of these, one for me and one for my son. Like mentioned above, I have the pipe detail kit on the way so my plan is to replicate the detail pieces as best as I can with wood and styrene if possible. His will be less detailed like the esb version and mine will be full blown anh. I have the pvc with template glued on and I'm practicing on his first. Also because my kit isn't in hand, I plan NOT to cut the magazing or handle yet just to make sure they fit.

  11. Hey Kevin, we don't actually generally suggest the use of Pepakura for armor builds if you're trying to join the 501st. The armor often ends up being heavy, expensive, uncomfortable, and inaccurate. When I first got onto the FISD, I was planning on doing a pep build, and I was quickly warned away from it. If you still want to go through with it, I know where to find TK pep files. If you'd rather go a more tried and true route, I'd suggest looking at this thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/to get an idea of where the 501st gets most of its TK armors.

    Good luck!

I'm too tall to be a stormtrooper, 6'3 220 so it's just a display piece.boba maker has a tutorial on a snowtrooper helmet I am beginning to work on but I would also really like to have a stormtrooper, boba fett and vader helmets as well. My collection is more nostalgic than anything else. But I will say, accuracy is a must for me. So I thought the pepakura builds would be less expensive but your saying they're cost more and less accurate? I like building these myself but vader and stormtrooper pose an issue for scratch builds. That's why I was attracted to the pepakura. So a pepakura will cost more. What could I expect to pay for a helmet that I can take my time and put together? Thanks for saving me a hassle and money it seems.
  12. Thanks guys, I agree, this site is amazing. Its just that some builds had instruction linked back to the other site but seeing how I can get everything here, I'm good. Besides, during all my research here, I see members are really quick to help out, so that's a strong point. Still waiting on my parts but that's half the fun of it.

  13. Sorry to bring up another site, however I do see some references for specs linked back to blaster builders club. I registered over a week ago but never got a reply or registration link. Are they just not up to date, or accepting new members? The main reason I'm asking is it seems alot of info links back to them and I am unable to get it. If they are not accepting new members can we get the details and info elsewhere?
