  1. Hee hee. As one of the Rubies mistakes, I find your lack of faith disturbing... ...but your post is extremely funny and true.
  2. My Anovos order comes with just the helmet (completed) and the kit, with no inner linings or padding. What do I need to get for the inside of the armor, and what would best be used for adhesive? I have E6000 for the ABS, but maybe Gorilla glue or industrial-strength two-sided tape for any type of padding or lining inside?
  3. This is a great thread. People seem really supportive. I hope I don't have to do any riveting with the Anovos kit I ordered, but this thread took a lot of fear out of my upcoming build. It's gonna be fun. One guy who posted a blog on TK building said it's best to keep all your parts in the box and just take out one piece at a time and craft all components patiently first. I'm the type of guy who wants to boil the whole ocean right away, but what a lot of these guys are saying is right; it's best to tailor your own with a kit.
  4. I just tried this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Meguiar-s-ScratchX-2.0/16550259 I use it when I repaint guitars, and just tested it on an unpainted piece of my practice armor, which is ABS. Tremendous shine indeed. It goes all the way to "mirror" shine. I will also buy some E6000, thanks guys, I greatly appreciate the replies.
  5. Awesome. I have mine on order. I need to totally bust my Rubies set apart completely, (donated the helmet to an art gallery) so its a kit, and then practice trimming and gluing from there. I just really don't want to make any newbie mistakes with the real quality stuff.
  6. I can hardly wait for this to come in December. I have a Rubies (armor only) set and I'm practicing trimming and gluing and strapping on that thing, so I don't wreck my Anovos (I got the completed helmet and kit). I originally wanted TM but couldn't fork over enough dough. Can anyone tell me if Gorilla glue works well on ABS, or what kind of adhesives I should practice with? Also, do you think these parts will need to be painted? Please help me to not wreck the good armor. Thanks.
  7. This is why I'm cutting into My Rubies and not even taking it seriously. I can't wait to order an Anovos TK, but that TM looks totally awesome, I could be swayed to go TM if it's possible.
  8. So, after making the Queen Mary mistake of dropping over $600 on a Rubies, I thought I was SOL on getting a decent TK set of Armor and helmet. And, as much as my wife was predicted to kill me, she actually told me to keep the Rubies and practice on it so I don't make mistakes and keep it around as a"beater set" so I don't ruin my ANOVOS gear. So, it's a nice tide-over to make it as up-to-snuff as possible a ROTJ and/or experimental piece for about six months until I can even order my ANOVOS kit. I've been spending a lot of time researching that one, and just found out they are using PVC rather than ABS. I always found that to be a bit brittle and risky sometimes. Has anyone here used PVC, or is that actually the norm for material? I'm still fairly green and open-minded. Thanks.
  9. I'm praying that I can get a good price around tax-return season. Then (like others) it's time to get the wife on board. But come Hell or high water, I'm so getting this kit. After getting a Rubies, then doing research and seeing this, it is time. I think PVC is a bit harder than ABS, I'm stoked.
  10. Ditching my current armor midsection Front and back, as it's really turned out to be too small for me, even after losing my belly. Can anyone help me with finding a decent midsection that will fit? I'll spend my tax returns on it, so it'll take me being patient while I figure out how to find a way to actually obtain said armor. Any replies greatly appreciated.
  11. Actually, I don't think I'm gonna sweat this one detail. If you can see by the attached screenshot, Star Wars couldn't even do it consistently. This pic is pretty much a page from "The BIble" so....there's that.
  12. I'm flipping the button panel on mine. Can anyone share their experience on doing that? "chirp...chirp" I guess Ill hot-knife it out, flip and caulk back in. I have a nice EFX (not "FX") helmet that would probably work, I just REALLY don't want to paint the frown all black, maybe there's an alternative? I thought about strips of black electricians tape. This baby is actually shaping up well.....dare I say. Anovos....please get here soon though...I much prefer ANH.
  13. I'm not sure I understand the question, sorry. This ab plate is just two pieces (plate and belt) riveted together. The buttons sequence (accurate for ANH) are part of the ab-plate mold, and instead of getting the correct ab-plate, I'd rather tough it out and learn how to cut that square out, invert it and then make it right for a ROTJ armor piece. I'm just wanting advice on how to do that and make it look as seamless as possible. Thanks.
  14. So here's what I have. I'm building ROTJ trooper armor (image enclosed) and I have to cut out the square with the buttons and invert it because the buttons on the AB plate are for ANH armor. I'm asking for advice on how to approach this cutting into ABS and then re-gluing. Would I need to create a new flat surface, and then glue it back on? I'm signed up to be a bell-ringer for United Way through work this Holiday season as a stormtrooper and I want to be completely screen-accurate by then. Sure 99.9% of the people that come in won't know the difference, but I want this totally legit. What would you do? ...Oops, and I'll make that rightmost bottom button blue as well.
  15. This is great info. I am working on these mods for my armor right now. Thanks!
  16. Hey, that's looking great. I look forward to seeing your build progress. Also, again, big kudos for your wife on the excellent job with that neck seal. Outstanding!
