  1. Another update, I didn't build anything, but I bought something : For those of you, like me, who live in an apartment or don't have a workshop, it's a portable vise that can be attached to any table. It's working great so far! I don't see it lasting decades but for small projects, it's great! Here's a link : http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Hand-Tools-STHT83179-Quick/dp/B00MJYUJNS Hope it helps you guys
  2. Sooo... Once again, huge thanks to Thrawn's Guard, I found this : As it turns out, not only is there a Games Workshop near me, but there is a card game store in my neighborhood that carry Game Workshop's products and they had green stuff!(I also like that it's really called green stuff [emoji14]) Also, my mother-in-law called, so I knew I had half an hour to kill while she and my gf talked, so I did a few things. First, I Dremeled the folding stock : Then, I drilled the front of the scope to fit the lense casing : It's very rough, I'm starting to think I should be more patient with the Dremel. BUUUUT, now that I have green stuff, I know I can fix these in no time!!! Yay!!!! This is so much fun
  3. I must have walked by that store at least 50 times, it never occurred to me they'd have that! Thanks man!!!
  4. Nice!!! There's no such thing as too many DD build threads!!! Right?
  5. So, update time! There is light at the end of the... Uh, scope? That's right, hollowed all the way through! Pictures or it didn't happen : So, it's very, VERY rough... Drilling without a bench vise, while you're sick turns out to be maybe not the best idea ever! Who would've thought, eh?!? So, with that in mind, I will try to clean it up with my Dremel and some putty. The twist though, is I don't have any green stuff and I can't find any in my area. Any substitutes you guys know about? I've tried that stuff on a previous build and I wasn't impressed : http://m.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-4-oz-Epoxy-Putty-31270/100344357 I was thinking of using something like this http://m.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/j-b-weld-plastic-weld-repair-epoxy-putty-0383820p.html Thoughts?
  6. That sucks Good things come to those who wait though! But I know how you feel, ordering online has its downsides...
  7. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think there is anything in that price range that comes fully built... Gotta work for it at that price! And then, even the Anovos kit at 350$ costs a lot more than 600$ once you add blaster, boots, electronics and tools needed! Envoyé de mon iPad en utilisant Tapatalk
  8. The waiting game is the worst. Worth it though!!! The moment you open the box, you kinda feel like a kid again. [emoji1]
  9. Thanks Charles! I have to say, it's a good thing I have done a costume or two over the years, I'm more confident now then I used to. I really like the fact that whatever I may want to do, there a pretty good chance someone's done it already and has made a thread about it. I've done a bit more work on the scope today, nothing fancy but I've hollowed most of it... Pictures to come!
  10. Thanks I don't know yet about the prisms, I hadn't considered it until I saw your build. I will look at your build for reference but my biggest fear is to bite more than I can chew... I keep going back and forth in my mind about this and putting electronics in it... So many options and such limited skills Envoyé de mon iPad en utilisant Tapatalk
  11. Sooooooo... After looking at my DD's full resin kit for a few weeks, I finally got down to starting to work on it! Baby steps guys, baby steps! Since I've caught a bad case of tonsillitis, I have plenty of time to post pictures :/ So here's the obligatory picture of the SBB (not that big of a box really [emoji14]) : Bonus picture of my car, fortunately nicknamed "Stormy"! So far, all I've drilled the front nozzle in order to put Hex screws in and I've started drilling the scope so that I can put lenses in : My goal with this build isn't to go super realistic like some of you guys but rather to see this through and have a reasonably nice blaster at the end. I will however try to build a "working" scope using squimpickle's and Trawn Guard's ideas. I expect this to take me at least a few weeks but any help or suggestion you may have is appreciated!
  12. Oh thanks!! I saw that thread a while back but didn't remember it!
  13. Am I correct in assuming this board would fit inside a DD resit kit?
  14. Great thread here on the topic of painting boots : http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?/topic/27114-Dyeing-Black-Boots-White Dyeing Black Boots White
  15. I bought these for my TK : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PI2T0VK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 They look and feel great IMO! Envoyé de mon iPad en utilisant Tapatalk
  16. What's the ModPodge for? Is that what you're using as a sealer? I have the same setup as you but I didn't read anything about sealing them until now!!! Envoyé de mon iPad en utilisant Tapatalk EDIT: ModPodge clear acrylic SEALER... I wonder if that's your sealer? #dumbquestion
  17. Digging this from the bottom of the abyss! I've got a DD kit and not a single clue of what to do... This will help Great build thread!
  18. Well, AP is in my neighbourhood so if I was to ditch Anovos(and I don't think I will) I guess I would go with him! However, until I saw the Anovos deal, I never thought I could afford trooping, at least not until later in life... I can't wait until those start shipping! At least then well know for sure how good it is.
  19. Thanks for clarifying that! I don't know much about wait times for different makers because I just at Anovos right away and didn't really looked back since...
  20. Some of the kits from vetted maker have long wait list too! I jumped at the Anovos offer but you could also go with ATA which, I think, isn't much more expensive than the Anovos kit. You don't get all the soft parts though, which is why I jumped at the Anovos preorder price... Too good of a deal to pass up. The wait and the uncertainty of what will come with the kit is killing me though...
  21. Thanks for your response In retrospect, would you say that hollowing the scope completely is worth it? From the sound of it, it looks like it doesn't do much, so maybe I'd go with only hollowing a small portion of it to fit the lenses...
  22. Hi there! I've received my DD kit, lenses and a brand-spanking-new tube of E6000 I'm kind of anxious at the idea of cutting appart the scope so I have a few questions : 1- What tools did you use to cut it? 2- In what way did it help with the hollowing process? Is it mandatory in your opinion? 3- Does it make a difference whether it's completely hollowed or just enough so to be able to fit the lenses? Thanks for the fantastic build thread!
  23. There is someone offering a code on the Facebook group if you have access to it. I don't know if anyone posted this but here the holster they had on display for the Shadow trooper :
  24. Here's a post from the Anovos builder's Facebook group. The guy claims to have friends at Anovos who gave him a lot of details about plans for the TK : "I looked through the page here and saw all the amazing pics (thanks, guys!) but didn't see too much direct text info posted from the Anovos camp. I spoke to some friends who work for the company after the show floor closed on Friday, and learned the following (and big apologies for any redundant info posted): The armor will be ABS and not PVC. The display suit at SDCC is PVC, except the helmet, which is ABS. They weren't happy with the look and performance of PVC, so the decision is reversed. The pulls on the display suit are also not as crisp as the final armor will be; they expect the detail to be sharper and "less soft". The pieces will be trimmed with 2" of flash left around them, so you'll have lots of options for trimming if you're larger. To trim pieces precisely to the proper size would add too much cost at the $350 level (logic being 501st suits perfectly trimmed run $550-$600). The ab buttons will not come pre-painted; that will need to be done by the owner, matching the blue color from the helmet vents (though Anovos hopes to get LFL permission to be able to include a Pantone color code for easy matching). The harness for mounting armor to body is still in flux, with a harness, velcro, and arming vest attachments all under discussion. Unless it is amazing, I still plan to duplicate my rock-solid snap/strap system I marched in the Rose Parade with. Ignore the cracked right thigh seam (mannequin incident) and warped left thigh (molding error) in photos of the display suit. But bear in mind that if you have an inflexible mannequin you are displaying on, you may encounter similar issues. The bodysuit and gloves on the mannequin are temporary stand-ins for the real ones. Perhaps most importantly: The suits are supposed to be delivered around November so folk can have them done in time for EP. VII mid-December. Fingers crossed. I'm also told previously ordered softgoods costumes like Luke, Han, etc. will be shipped out shortly. I still feel good about my purchase, and am a bit relieved after a personal inspection. Thickness seems decent, and I'm happy they've gone back to ABS. The people I spoke to are old friends, trustworthy, and not known for BSing me."
