I think you will want to look for more recent reference for the anovos helmet. That pic looks like the one thats still on their website which is just the months-old "prototype"

Am I the only one around here who hates dancing stormtroopers!?
-
I was once at a party and this guy trying to be cool in front of the ladies asked me " Are you a girl? You know that all the stormtroopers were actually played by women in the movies because men couldn't fit in the costumes". I know he had already seen me without a helmet. I didn't bother correcting him.... Im a 175lb avid weightlifter/personal trainer. Why do people have to be jerks?

Just got my 1.5 a couple months ago...almost done building it. It looks great and after researching the same thing I found that people generally leaned towards the 1.5 because it gives sharper detail and also more flexibility=less likely to crack while trooping.

Wonder what the chances of the kit coming with split rivets and chicago screws? My guess Is low but wondering what you guys think? Does anybody have info about included hardware yet?

I still think it would have been really cool for them to have replicated the original armor. People like average Joe wont see a difference but I think subconsciously people will feel that they are not quite right.
-
Yeah true. Plus set photos (especially from drones 100 feet high) never look too flattering. I really dislike ROTJ armor too, but at the end of the day I still love the movie. Good lighting and effects comp hopefully makes up for any shortcomings in the new movie.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this. I dont think the original prop makers did their job wrong or did a "crappy job". When you have actors sitting around in these things on set all day, stuff is going to break--and the need for quick fixes like using gaffer tape and such is just an inevitable thing. The costumes had a job to do, they needed to look good on camera---they were not built to last. If they were, we would have a lot more RS's running around with original armor. I think the real magic in costuming TK's is replicating how they looked on screen--not trying to build some epic perfect version of it. If this were the case, we wouldnt have all these rules and guidelines in place to ensure everyone doesnt customize the hell out of their armor. I think all of our collective disappointment in the first glimpse of these costumes (if they are in fact, not stunt costumes) stems from the fact that the shape and general dimensions of them seem to be far off. I love the hand sculpted look of the stormtrooper, and these suits look like straight edged machine made replicas. I think we could all agree it would be nice to see them without open shins, gaffer tape hanging off or any other blemishes that were there in ANH. This would have been a change I could get behind. But the fact is that the armor pieces themselves are just not the same. And whats worse for me, is that there is no conscious design changes in the costume, which makes the failure to replicate the originals even more grand--at least any alterations in the design would have made any inaccuracies a little more justified....either the costume needs to be altered even more from the original, or made more accurately--right now were kind of in the middle. But alas, the movie takes place directly before ANH so I'm just praying they are stunt builds.

What is a Disney tk? Is that an actual kit that places like Disneyland specifically use?? The troopers in the photos look kinda bad. Look at the crotch area its really off and shoulder bells and chest too...they look fx pieces. No shape or sculpted feel that original tks had. I hope I'm wrong

Screen caps of the extended material
Brandon replied to K@nne's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Does anyone know why the rotj tk armor seems so much less refined? I don't mean to offend anyone who has rotj to but I don't know... that helmet looks like its been melted and its so soft and unappealing to me. The armor parts seem sub standard compared to anh and ESB too. -
I wonder if the undersuit they provide will still be usable even if we implement our own snap or bracket system.... Or maybe there will be too much crazy velcro attachments going on that will be uncomfortable....

Hey all, Sold my old kit to a friend, and like me he is finding that the forearm pieces really pinch badly when bending the elbow. Are there common ways to trim the forearm to minimize this? I remember the overlap edge (its an FX kit so it doesnt use joining strips) on the forearms kind of stuck out too and catches the skin even worse when bending. Maybe he could trim that edge down and round it out?

Speaker in the chest plate, huh?

Oops I think I misread. The icomm has this ability but i think you were talking about romfx. -
Speaker in the chest plate, huh?
Brandon replied to Astyanax's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
Also your ARE able to select any one of the 8 sound effects if you choose to just have one its all in the instructions when I get it. -
I'm in the process of trimming everything right now and I came across a great topic about 4 days ago that had detailed pics and descriptions of how much edge to leave on the different pieces. Does anyone remember seeing it? I can't seem to find it. It was listed on the front page as a recent topic. Thanks!

Anyone ever heard of rs around here? Lol Just kidding rs is a great suit. Cost wise also one of the most expensive. Make sure to do your research though. Many kits can be great or not so much depending on the person. Rs has a more imperfect hand made feel in my oponion since its cast from the real thing mostly. Bumpy cap and shins that dont match as perfect as youd expect for example. Things like this can be taken into conaideration before choosing a kit. Its all about what feel and style of a build you are looking for. There are plenty of topics here that have discussed rs in comparison to other kits that you should check out before deciding though. Rs was my choice for my latest kit but after a few weeks of reading I did ultimately end up changing my mind and going for something else.

Ammo pouch attachmments
Brandon replied to Quadan's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I think most people attach it to the backpack strap -
I have an old kenner with the conversion on it....Wanting to upgrade to something nicer...do you guys think this would be a natural step up in looks/quality?
-
Ahh that makes sense now. Thanks for summing that up for me though. I was searching online to see if abs plastic had its own numbering system for describing its thickness.
-
Is .9 abs heavy duty? It seems a little weak compared to 1.5 vs 2mm options from suits like TM. I have a vt helmet that looks like its around .8 and it feels quite fragile, especially in the parts where the plastic was thinned out so much from big indented details (in the aerator housing areas). Does anybody have a kit around this thickness? Still good for trooping?
-
Anybody know anyone who has any of their other kits like the snowtrooper or tie pilots? Maybe the quality of those could hint at what to expect here...
-
Ugh a 350 dollar gamble....but so tempting especially while pricing out the cost for a TM right now. Almost want to buy both and build this on the side haha

Sizing concerns for a weightlifter
Brandon replied to Brandon's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Thanks all. Sent TM my measurements... He asked for non-flexing measurements but I included some "semi flexing" values as well taking into consideration that muscles do partially flex when elbows are bent and such. 15"bicep relaxed 16" semi flex with bent elbow (holding gun pose) 16.75" full flex forearms are not very big anymore theyve shrunk to a pretty average size just 13" flexed upper thighs (their widest point) are about 62cm. Chest is about 41"...he only seemed concerned with the limb pieces so I didnt give him this. I think my shoulders are my most developed/larger than average area but Im feeling confident the shoulder bells will fit just fine as they do on my current suit. Not a huge guy by any means, I just started out on a VERY skinny frame when I was 140lbs lol. I told him I foresee probably an inch of growth in the biceps and legs as well so I would like to keep in mind having some extra room when i build. I will post what the results are once he gets back for anyone who is interested. -
Hey all, Looking to buy a new kit...really have my heart set on TM but also may go for RS. I am about 5'10" maybe slightly taller, and 175 lbs...32" waist. . I built an fx kit many years ago. I was barely 140lbs at the time so I've put on about 35lbs of muscle after some years of being a personal trainer and doing lots of weightlifting. I am not huge by any means but I know my legs and arms will be the areas of concern. Getting into the fx has been difficult at times for the biceps and forearms. And also the upper leg pieces. I remember I was able to cut the leg pieces to my own liking when building the fx... does anyone know if the TM has the same option of trimming? Anything similar with the arms? If not I think I would otherwise be ok shimming. Anybody else experience the same issues? I know I could just go for a bigger set like RT-Mod or maybe AM but I really do love the TM and I feel it would be a great upgrade from FX.
