Original boots UK7.5 found!
ZeroRoom replied to troopermaster's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Interesting... Do you have multiple sources for this info? Regency Chelsea Boots are mighty close to that... However the cut around the ankle looks more like a Rhinegold Chelsea boot than the shorter tabs on the Regency Chelsea's. Of course it might be the camera angle... -

Ok - think I've solved it. He registered his email as [email protected]! I've changed it in his registered details to hotmail. Tell him to see if he gets his authentication email now. If let me know. I'll remove his info and he can register again with the correct email. -

Can you give me some more details on what you mean by 'gain access'? As in he can read the forums but login refuses to recognize him? Is he getting a message regarding his password? I'll look into what his member account says meanwhile but a bit more detail about his exact problem could help me feel it out... -
Ok guys - serious computer problems are hashing up my progress, but I've got the mag dims and templates down at least. Except for the mag catch: Can anyone help me with dims for this? I know most E-11's are cut at the far end but I'd like to offer builders the choice by just templating up a stock magazine and letting them decide where to chop it...

Nice going! That hammered black is the business - where'd you pick that up? I found a granite textured paint ut this is waaaaay better.

Opinions on these boots?
ZeroRoom replied to ZeroRoom's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Thanks for the tip Vern - consider it googled -
I want to get some black boots so I can go the painted/ scuffed boot look instead of white leather. I found these boots. I'm pretty fastidious and they look pretty good but thought I'd throw it to the brain trust for opinions: ---------

FWIW, Star Wars aside I think Blu-Ray is a scam anyway. Solid media is dead and this is the industries desperate attempt to get us to repurchase our movie collections all over again before streaming and downloads take over and we can pay for them yet another time. So far I've owned Star Wars on VHS. SE VHS, DVD release and DVD box set release believe it or not that includes TPM on VHS at one point. That means at least four of the movies I've bought 4 times. I've now ripped the DVd's to my HTPC set up and there's no way I'm buying another copy and definitely not on solid media. DVD res is plenty good by me, 1020p just isn't that important to me especially when it comes to Star Wars - even the DVD seemed too 'crisp' for me as part of the appeal of star wars has always been that low def 70's look

Ebay FX armor ... any thoughts or suggestions... please
ZeroRoom replied to überTrooper's topic in eBay Armor
I know everyone keeps saying it, but it's true - patience is the key. I lurked around here reading, reading, reading for two and half years before I bought my kit and, believe me, I'm thankful. I'm not saying you have to wait that long but it helps to know your onions before you lay any cash down. You should feel like an expert in details and assembly before you even start. Think of FISD as school with your kit as your graduation If I think back to the things that have been discovered by the community since I joined it's amazing. The things we didn't know back then would have had a huge impact on my build if I hadn't waited... -
Master Replica CE helmet
ZeroRoom replied to überTrooper's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
It certainly has it's pros and cons. I have one and I love how sturdy and weighty it is, but it's symmetrical and that bugs the hell out of me. Given that these days it's going for about the same as a kit from a good fan maker the only real time it's worth it is if you have a phobia of building stuff yourself. Don't get me wrong, I love mine as a display piece, but if this your starting purchase I say go straight to a more accurate bucket. -
The RPF is the Jerry Springer of prop forums to be sure... Its the level of controversy that this has stirred up that fascinates me - especially the core argument as to how much control or responsibility an artist has for their work after it has been released into the public domain. TK-4702 put a link up here somewhere to a great article about the changes which referenced some of Marcel Duchamps theories about the artist/ viewer relationship and where the lines for 'contributing' to the work lie. As an artist this issue has intrigued me for a long time. It's not the Internet scream fest that fascinates me - it's why it's happening, and how people feel so passionately about this artist / viewer relationship and who has ownership over the work. Picasso was actually arrested once for going in to an art gallery and making changes to one of his paintings. That's a great point where grey becomes so much more interesting than black or white...

For those of you who don't often visit the RPF there's a great but lengthy (set aside some time) debate raging about the desecration... erm altering... of the OT for the Blu-Ray releases. http://www.therpf.com/f47/official-boycott-star-wars-bluray-thread-125511/ Definitely worth a read no matter what side of the fence you're on.

I mean the excess plastic around the faceplate and cap, as per these pics from Pandatrooper's tutorial: Which can be found here: http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=14806&hl=helmet&fromsearch=1 Unless of course MTK Pre trimmed these for you (I can't tell with the close up photos) but that's usually what causes the initial 'Hey this doesn't fit together' reaction

Thanks guys Had a moment to do some work on the mag today. I thought this would be the easy bit but those curves were a challenge. Will try to get finished in the wee hours tonight and post up

You're going to be cutting the ears to about here: I So, no, that wrinkle won't matter at all. It looks like you could be cutting a lot more in the teeth too. Also until you trim the edges of the from and back it's gonna be hard to tell exactly where to place them to sit just how you want.

You could easily trim this much off without it being at all noticeable while on: -
OK Ladies and Gentlemen we finally have the finished templates and blueprints for the folding stock. I'm going to say right out of the gate - these templates are NOT for a fully functional folding stock, but you can trust my nervous breakdown that I've busted a hump to get these dims as spot on as can be expected for an accurate appearance. In fact I'd go so far as to say that with a little ingenuity and some mechanical skill you could actually make a folding stock if you tweaked and customised these plans. If you assembled it with rivets it would certainly fold - just not in a spring loaded way like the real thing. So why have I done it this way? I realised after a long while that as accurate as I could be in the computer I was never going to get something as fiddly and mechanical as the spring mechanism to work without actually building a real practical model. I haven't given up, and I do intend to do this but let's call these plans version1.0 and get something accurate and useable out there. The other consideration was that this had to be buildable by your average trooper who is not a machine smith or watch maker. Things like press fit bearing rails are beyond the capabilities of most backyard prop makers so I've left the actual assembly method up the individual. These dimensions are hyper accurate but will work for a simple glue job static stock all the way to an actionable folding stock if you have the skills. One thing I can guarantee - it will look like the real deal. By the way Lichtbringer - your dims were so accurate (to two decimal places) that I rounded some to 1 decimal place just to make it a tad easier for the home builder to pull off. Also - not all parts of the stock can be templated as such (the tube inside for example) for these parts I have provided diagrams and dimensions for use in conjubction with the templates. The folding stock blueprints are in two parts. The various assembly parts and fiddly bits: And the arms: You can see by this exploded diagram illustration I've been drawing as each part is completed that we only have the end cap, magazine and grip exterior left to do now! Woo Hoo!

HOW TO: Turn an M-38 scope into an M-19
ZeroRoom replied to ZeroRoom's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
This way was more fun! Fair question though. When I got the random lot of cast parts it was very random. Only some of the required parts for a pipe build were in the batch, some parts had doubles, some parts singles. So I figured with the doubles I could build two new blasters - one ANH and one ESB. I got the parts for such a ridiculous bargain I was determined that I would make all remaining parts myself and not spend any money on 'off the shelf' parts. Don't buy it if you can make it has been a lifelong habit I suppose I could have offered someone a swap but since the M-19 is pretty rare and the M-38 pretty common I doubt there'd be any takers. Besides this mod was so easy to do - why wait?
