  1. Thanks Thayne, maybe by the time your next visit comes up I'll actually have an ID. I'm so close. I saw the pictures. Very cool. -John
  2. Congrats on making your deadline. I love those. Your armor looks great. -John
  3. It will look very authentic when the clean up crew is picking up your pieces after the battle. Seriously, that's a very original idea. Cool.
  4. Those are pretty good. LOL! I'd have to have a pair just to freak out my wife.
  5. Hey Thayne, I can imagine that it would be pretty tough. Do you guys go to visit the kids often? I'm up in Reno. I'd love to drive down and troop for the kids with you guys sometime. -John
  6. Nice job. Congrats on your Elite status.
  7. Hey Chris, are you using a dual vac pump/ shop vac setup?
  8. Thanks Alex, that's a great forum.
  9. I'd hate to see the paypal fees on $1,000,000,000.45. Sheeesh! Not far from the truth though. I was at Sony Pictures a few years ago on some wheel of fortune business. Outside the studio we were using there was a huge life size Godzilla head from the recent movie. I was thinking it would look great in my front yard. A couple of hours later we came out and there were a couple f guys cutting it up with a chain saw and stuffing it in a dumpster. If it wasn't for fans rummaging through dumpsters there probably wouldn't be any film history left to enjoy.
  10. Hey Alex, I'm planning on ABS eventually. Does your table use a single hole platen? I'm a little on the fence about which way to go. It's a little it of an investment but I'm going to use the heck out of it. My list of vac formed projects are piling up fast. I picked up my surge tanks today. I'll have about 22 gallons of surge vacuum and a shop Vac supplement.
  11. Hey Andy, did you end up trooping at the opening?
  12. Nice score. Looks like it's seen quite a few battles.
  13. I drug my art team out to see it today at lunch. I thought it was great. When I came out of the theater there was a guy in Captain Rex armor in the lobby. It was pretty good. The helmet was a painted up hasbro. I didn't even think to take a picture. Duh! I'm taking the kids to see it again on Sunday.
  14. Looks awesome Eugene.
  15. Ahhhhh.....Hawaii Take lots of pictures. Drink a Mai Tai for me.
  16. You are right. I've got to start somewhere. What better education than building one from scratch and learning what works and what doesn't. I suppose I could have gone out and spent $7000 dollars on a commercial unit but that wouldn't be any fun. Besides, it's just a hobby. That's all I'm planning on using it for anyway. RC car bodies, airplane cowls some trooper parts. You know, hobby stuff.
  17. I'm going to start a too fat for my armor thread. Too bad I can't share a little of what I have. What's my secret? Besides getting old, I have a job that requires me to sit in a dark office for up to 12 hours a day. I maintained a caffeinated soda addiction and ate fast food everyday for ten years. 6 months ago it finally caught up with me. After a near death experience on a ski slope I realized that if I didn't make a change I was going to be dead. Whatever you do make sure you eat healthy and get lots of exercise. Drink lots of water and get out in the sun once in awhile. The rest will take care of itself.
  18. I was going to do something like what is shown on this website: Material frame latch As far as the oven side being low, by the time it's all together it should be just right. Otherwise I'll be making changes. Either way I'll be posting my progress. If you come up with a better way of making the latches let me know. -John
  19. 6' 11 and 150 pounds......6' 5" and 125 pounds... This forum resides on the planet earth.....Right? I'm 6' 4". When I was 18 I weighed 196 pounds and my ribs were showing. I would do anything to get back to that weight. If you guys have a secret to staying slim I'd sure like a tip or two. I'd love to be 220 again.
  20. I've finally started my vacuum form table build. I decided to make the frame out of steel for longevity and stability. Also I've got a welder and need an excuse to use it. I thought I would share my build with you guys. I started by making a set of plans so I could work out all the measurements and adapt it to steel. I'll post them soon in case someone is interested in the details. I'll update the plans as I go. If this table turns out viable I plan on remaking some of the troublesome parts of my FX armor. Hopefully, making it a lot more screen accurate in the process. My ultimate goal is just to make it fit better. Then there's all those other costumes I want to make. So here it is as of today. -John 1st Frame section Two down one to go Welded frames.
  21. I've got to finish painting the garage 1st. Then I'm welding up the vac form frame. Playing with the kids for awhile and then pulling an all niter to meet a deadline at work. Thanks to my coworker who bailed out on me and left 20 hours worth of work to finish by Monday. Arrg! If there's anything left of the weekend, which I doubt, I'll be trying to finish up the last couple of things on my TK. Oh yeah, and put a tack on my coworkers chair.
  22. Yeah I've got Firefox too. Works fine. My old laptop is getting tired too. cleaned out your cache lately?
  23. That's some first class weathering. Good job!
  24. Along the way you'll learn how to make it out of other materials. My first Star Wars costume was made out of things around the house. Plywood, scavenged model parts black spray paint. What ever it takes. It's amazing how much much stuff like that you see in SW ANH. I was painting an X-wing cockpit for a project I'm working on and right there in the photo reference is a kitchen sink strainer with the bottom cut off glued to the dashboard of Luke's Xwing. Good luck on your project. -John
