  1. I'll let the other guys join in here, but you want a good fit so that the pieces are neither too loose and baggy, nor cutting off circulation. You want to achieve that movie look. Have you joined up with your local garrison? Sometimes the best thing to do is squire with other people and look for an armor party. The troopers there will be happy to help get a good fit.

  2. NO HOT GLUE!!!!!!! The plastic is so thin in this area hot glue will warp the plastic badly if applied here. If you want to re-enforce the area, a common trick is to lay a piece of cotton t-shirt over the mic tip area on the inside of the helmet and soak it with super glue. This is known as poor man's fiberglass. but it works. Watch for the fumes, though

I never did mine but I think I will. When you say super glue, can I assume that CA glue from Hobbytown USA would work using this method?
  3. Ok so I found the lenses I want. The inner drop boxes. Canvas belt. Mic tips. Neck seal. Imperial binders. And boots. Just need the blaster and I think I'm set. Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something I heard strapping system but mark at AP said Velcro? And need a set of black compression pant/shirt was looking at eastbay but not sure if some of the logos and what not will show

I would avoid strapping with velcro. Check out some Centurion and EIB submission threads and you will see some very good examples of straps using elastic and snaps. You have a bit of time to consider options before you get to that point.
  4. Go to the ANH build threads and look for ATA builds. You'll see a bunch there (including mine). You should get some good insight into building an ATA kit there. And be sure to check out EIB and Centurion ATA submission threads for reference pics. Feel free to PM with questions as well. Worth the wait IMHO.

  5. I went with cheap and easy to replace. They sell a pack of foam sheets at Michael's for $9.99, to which you can then apply one of their 40% off coupons. Each cushion is 1 inch thick and about 1 foot square, so lots of room for extra pieces. Then I just cut shapes and temporarily taped them in until the fit felt good. A little E6000 used to attach velcro to the bucket, and hot glue to attach velcro to the foam and done. They can be washed and sprayed with Febreeze, or just replaced when needed. And little rubber grommets over the screws of course.

  6. I have trouble getting the bells and biceps on when the chest is strapped on. So I have done this by following the thighs, shins, boots, ab/kidney order. But then I strapped my bells and biceps to the shoulder straps and put the back plate on while leaning against the wall. Then the chest is strapped on. Awkward, but it worked. I also tend to put my forearms and gloves on after the helmet as its not easy to bend my arms enough to wiggle into my ATA bucket when my forearms are on.

  7. I feel for you. I have a 20 month old at home, and doing the build under those conditions was not easy. I'm pulling for you to get this done on time, but if not, there wil always be more troops to follow. I missed my first expected troop because I just couldn't get things approved in time. But I know another troop is just over the horizon...

  8. Tim is correct. The inside strapping means very little as far as EIB and Centurion approval. Take a look at the submission pages for both levels as well as the CRL's if you have any questions. I'd say stick with the snap/strap method. Again, the approval threads are invaluable for this as troopers have to submit pics of there strapping set-up for Centurion approval.

  9. No such thing as a slow build. Take your time and make sure it's right. Study the EIB and Centurion threads for good pics. You'll find that trimming more than once is normal. And aim for 15mm cover strips on the arms, 20mm on legs and 25mm on the backs of the shins, depending on your build. Never fear posting pics and seeking advice before cutting. Research is the key.
