  1. I am curious how most of you guys transport your blaster. I have been trooping for the past year, and usually wrap my blaster in a towel and put it in a backpack. It doesn't fit in my armor transport.

I recently attempted to make a carrying bag. It has a canvas shell and a soft flannel interior. In the middle is a thin layer of batting. Made some rookie mistakes along the way -- didn't roll the canvas over at the zipper seam and it frays, a bit big -- but it works for now. Just curious what others do.

I'll post some pics in a bit. Can't from my phone.

  2. Took a much needed vacation, and have been focused on finishing my daugher's Jawa so this was on the back burner for a bit. I gave everything a good warm soapy bath, then gently trimmed out the trigger from the trigger guard and separated the pieces that needed separating. Next job is to sand everthing down. I also got my hex bolts to replace the muzzle and grip molded bolts.

  3. Hey guys, I have been looking into getting my armor but am stuck between AP and AM. I am in contact with the guy from AP, His armor is very good quality it seems like but for the full trimmed kit he is selling it for 1050.

I am also in contact with a Garrison buddy of mine who recently got AM armor

He says it is very very good, Includes alot of adhesives and bolts and what not, is incredibly duarble (AP i believe is 0.08 whereas AM is 0.09)

And he said he got it for around 650.

Can I please get some assistance here? Is AM good armor? I'm a noob and still need to get my first armor and I did not want to go too over the top for my first suit. So I am really just hoping for some good guidance.

Some of it boils down to body size. What is you height and weight?

  4. LOL. Thanks very much, Scott :D Not sure if Bill would want to wait a few more weeks before finally starting on this...?!?

Considering the time to get through my current waiting list and shipping time to the US, might mean to wait until end of August or early September...

@ Bill (DroidHunter): However, if you want me to put you on the waiting list, just send me a PM ;) If not, I fully understand because for many of us it's hard to restrain themselves when it comes to start building. :D

I wish I could but I'm tapped out right now. It's an awesome kit you have. I'll let you know if my situation changes, but thanks for chiming in here.

  5. Interesting to see how the front end has changed in the last 15 months, comparing pics from T-Jay to current purchases by =Sv3= and myself. Aside from the bad pull in mine as far as the hex screws are concerned, you can see the new mold has a totally different shape in the front compared to a year ago.

  6. Wow. Not sure what happened here, but there is nothing left of the cast of the hex bolts here. Good thing I already bought 4 real hex screws to replace them and the one in the handle. I assume for the front two, you cut off the head of the screw and glue it in?

I may have missed this in other parts, but has the resin barrel always been cast over the black plastic tube?

  7. Yep. Another Doopydoos build! I've been waiting a year and a half to upgrade from the partially modified Hasbro I built a decade ago, and I finally made the plunge. Just over 2 weeks after ordering and the little brown box came today!

It will probably take a few days to get started here. But had to start with the arrival of infamous package. Pics to come soon.

  8. That sucks :( Good things come to those who wait though! But I know how you feel, ordering online has its downsides...

Guess what showed up on my doorstep today (even though tracking shows it is still in NY)?! New thread on its way.

  9. Go to www.runboard.com and look for the Brotherhood of the Bat board. Lots of good information there. Like FISD for troopers.

Do a search for a 6 panel cape pattern and buy some black pleather. I had one I made and wore for years. But sold it to a fan film director.

I posted this link in your last thread, and still think it is your best option. If you want to do hard plastic armor that is movie accurate for little money, its not going to happen. We all would do that if we could. You have straike a balance between time, money and expectations. Craft foam is not very expensive, and you can get it at most craft stores like Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc. To get a good start, all you need is lots of foam, scissors, glue and some templates (or blueprints) to work from. Also make sure you have some good pictures from the movies available to use as a guide. Lots of pictures here you can make use of. Look at pictures of troopers submitting for Expert Infantry and Centurion status to see large pictures of screen accurate armor.

Try to be patient. Don't think that you can accompish this in 1 day or even 1 week. Start now and aim for Halloween.

The helmet is harder. That was a nice cardboard build in the video you posted, but its not nearly as easy or cheap as it looks. It's a variation on something known as Pepkura which involves building 3D models out of paper or card stock. You may want to look into finding an old Don Post helmet, but that will cost some money. Keep researching. Try to think creatively. Heck, you could buy one of the Stormtrooper voicechanger masks from the Disney Store and enclose the back of it with a painted batting helmet. (Something like this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Kids-Stormtrooper-Costume/) Again, it will be a matter of cost versus accuracy and how much time you want to spend on it.

  11. Try doing a search for making armor using foamies or craft foam. For what you are looking to do, you may be able to make 'armor' using craft foam and glue. It will take some time, and will look better with some attention to detail. There are some guys who have done that for their sons/daughters instead of investing lots of money in something you will grow out of in a year. You can also check out the Replica Prop forum (RPF). But people here will be happy to help advise you in the process.

    Something like this:

    -------------

Just an idea and you are mostly limited by time and imagination. I've build plenty of things with foamies. You can seal it and make it more solid by covering it in a glue/water mix and then painting it when it dries.
