  1. Wow, its been a year already?? I need to get to work on that ESB. Happy b-day WAN, you rock!
  2. Here is some info on sheet material; http://robotcombat.com/store_carbon_fiber_faq.html I wouldn't think it is vac-formable due to the carbon fibers not being condusive to being heated and stretched. Plus getting no hits on forming sites is an indicator. We try forming anything that melts. However, carbon fiber sheets come in very thin gauges, so you could lay something up with paper thin sheets stacked & laminated together. Seems like a money pit though, that stuff doesn't come cheap. I saw it formed industrially for car parts with a heat press (using a two part metal mold inside a giant press) on the Discovery channel.
  3. "Film Canon" = official stuff in the movie "Expanded Universe Canon" = official stuff not in the movie
  4. Get that business taken care of John, we'll grab a pint a D*con!
  5. Paul, you have done a fantastic job getting FISD off the ground & you should be very proud. We salute you!
  6. I think you're getting into hero vs. stunt. Cast or demilled, they were all based on the MGC Sterling for ROTJ.
  7. I would try to line it up temporarily before committing with rivets, but the rivet hole will probably be too small to fit one of the clips through. When I did it I used a small diameter nut & bolt, but if the rivets were fat enough you might be able to get away with them to size it up.
  8. I have seen the proto lid, and I'll give you they could be clips. All of the production helmets that have turned up have rivets. Here is "move along" ------ Rivets are easy to put just about anywhere, the tool to do it with is a "blind rivet gun" all you need is a hole to put the rivet through, nothing more than a washer needs to be on the opposite side.
  9. I know you are tight with Andrew, but that is not right. Never has a screen-used helmet turned up with brass paper clips on it. Only his reproductions have. Original helmets have been, invariably, riveted at those two spots. I'm not trying to be difficult but unsubstantiated myths spread too quickly in the prop hobby to let information like this go unchallenged.
  10. You could also try a contour gauge, they are inexpensive and would be a help. Its basically a stick with long "pins" running through it, you press it against something and the pins slide to fit the contour. Like this; ------------
  11. Its virtually identical to the real ANH helmets, that is where it came from.
  12. Uh-oh, I'm being taken as admin. Sorry, I'm not trying to play back-seat mod I just try to talk things out plus I tend to get wordy so I guess I start to sound like I am of some importance here. Thankfully on FISD I'm just another user with an opinion.
  13. That is a good policy, if someone cannot post a pic of an original buck than they are not in possession of an original. The concept always seemed pretty simple to me.
  14. Trim it & fit it so that it wears nicely on you. It isn't the most accurate armor out there, but you can make it look very nice if you put a little effort into it.
  15. Correct. From Article 2, paragraph B of the Legion Charter; B. Upon admission, members are assigned a unique four-digit identification number following in the tradition of the stormtrooper character, TK-421, mentioned in A New Hope. Preceding this number is a two-character prefix code denoting the costume of the member. The prefix codes and what costumes they identify are listed below. Members owning more than one costume still have only one identification number but are referred to using whatever prefix codes are applicable. Identification numbers will be maintained by the Legion Membership Officer and are permanently assigned. If members convert to inactive status, their numbers will be retired until such time as the member returns to active status. (underline added by me for clarity)
  16. I'll be keeping you and your family in my thoughts Matt.
  17. Congratulations on the new addition!
  18. Nice, the stuff back on those shelves caught my eye too.
  19. You could use hot glue instead, the film will distort a little but it won't hurt anything that is seen from the outside. That black crap is awful, I tore out a shower surround that was put up with it, and it was horrible! It stuck to everything and left a stringy mess.
  20. According to the Council we'll just do what we did in 2000 and add another digit (taking us to five). So on the books, we'll all wind up with an extra "0" in front of our number. I think the "0001" on the list is a pending default.
  21. If I'm not mistaken when you "log in automatically" the password is not saved to your HD, instead the site saves your IP address and logs you in when it sees that IP.
  22. I had thought the same but have yet to find it onscreen. They had it with one of the 12" dolls, er toys, of the officer. I want to get a Nostromos version.
  23. Hey K.I.A. TK; you can get white door edge trim at most auto parts stores, just look around until you find one that looks right (there are a couple different sizes).
  24. The ANH/ESB suit that the ROTJ came from had its buttons on upside-down. All the ROTJ armor (sans re-used footage) shares this characteristic. I'll bet my mic tips on it.
