How do I secure all my parts while test fitting?

Thank you, Paul! You are just too awesome! -
Calling all average sized troopers!
bigtrev503 replied to bigtrev503's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Seriously, this is frustrating. I am using the search function to bring up all ATA builds. When I get to them, they usually sound like this: "Yay, I got my big brown box today! So excited! I will work on the helmet first." Then I read down a ways. "Now I'll start construction on the armor. I'm really tall so I'll have to modify to accommodate that." I'm not super tall, so I click the back button and choose another one. Whoops! That trooper is larger than I am. I feel like I've been spending the past month trying to narrow down the build threads that have both my armor make and a similar body size as I do. Bah! Frustrating. -
How should this fit before gluing?
bigtrev503 replied to bigtrev503's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Yeah, I'm looking at the screen grabs and it seems a little loose all over, but the torso seems to fit well. It's an endless struggle, I know. I wonder what the original sizing process was like for the movie in '77 -

Mine feels a bit loose actually... all over. It's a bit disturbing to think I might have to do heavy plastic surgery to make things fit. -
What did you use for the backs of the drop boxes?

Should I trim the top of the thigh armor?

Hey, Grue. You got a sweet signature thing at the bottom of your posts. What is it? -
screen accurate rubber glove brand name?
bigtrev503 replied to bigtrev503's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I have went ahead and bought the trooperbay ones, but it sounds like deeper analysis and research could be done to get more information about the screen used gloves. That way we can take one more step towards complete knowledge of what is exactly accurate all the way around. -

But IF I had to cut from the torso, should I cut from the kidney plate? Because it seems to be just a half inch or so bigger on both sides of the butt plate. Is that normal? EDIT: I have ordered my belt today and will do further test fitting of the torso when it arrives. In the mantime I will worry about getting the arms glued and the TD assembled. -
At that price you could get one from a trusted member on this forum made from real leather

Best holster for a trooper on a budget?
bigtrev503 replied to bigtrev503's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Ok, so does anyone have an opinion on the non-leather ones besides the fact that they aren't screen accurate? -

Are you referring to just one specific area i.e: the arms, legs, or main body? Or the whole thing? I'm itchin' to start gluing things together and strapping -

I have just sent him a PM! I'm so exited!! -
Ahhhh!!! My build thread is falling down the list and I need to get this baby done in a few weeks! Ok, I have decided to: pad the loose forearms go ahead with the pandatrooper thigh top mod as it is in the tutorial (nothing creative or potentially disastrous) trim the kidney and ab a bit for better fit. I think test fitting will go better once the belt comes in the mail. Meanwhile, I can do small things like work on the TD and start sourcing snaps and elastic!

I have come to the point in my build when I have everything except the belt, the holster, and the E-11. I bought my belt this morning from trooperbay and I will be ordering my doopydoos all resin E-11 this afternoon. I am undecided as to which holster is the best and doesn't break the bank. I decided against the trooperbay one and wanted to get one here. The cheapest one I can find is not made in the US and is made out of faux leather. I just can't decide! Any advice?

I have been building this using the butt-join method all over... is that wrong? It is still big even after butt joining. -

Ah! this is true all over with the black elastic. However, the real tricky part for me is the length of the white straps on the shoulders. Everything else is pretty obvious. Any feedback for that? Also, when trying to test fit the chest and back I can't think of a good way to go about it as the tape sticks to itself when I try to make a temporary strap out of it. -
Hi, I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that the original casting call for the troopers was for guys about 5 foot 10 and 160 pounds. EDIT: I found this on 'the various types of armor and where to find them' thread "ANH Derived armor (TE2, AP) was sculpted for a typical UK actor circa 1976, e.g. 5'10" and 165lbs" I am exactly this size, so I thought it would be a great costume for me. I wouldn't do a vader, or a wookie because I'm not tall enough. With that said, I was wondering if there's any advice from others that are my size. When I search the forum it is hard to discern which builds to follow and what advice to take because we are all sizes. I think it would be cool if we organized by size, so that way the big troopers can discuss enlarging, shimming, and things like that. While the average to smaller troopers can discuss cutting, padding, and such. Furthermore, I think it would be cool if there were a place here for the female troopers to gather and discuss the unique building techniques that women use to make their armor fit. Getting back to my point, is there any good resources to make my (ATA) armor fit me properly? Any help is appreciated, and the administrators should totally consider adding just two more forums to the overall forum: Big and tall troopers, and average to small troopers.

How do I secure all my parts while test fitting?
bigtrev503 replied to bigtrev503's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
How do we adjust things that are glued in place? I'll be using white webbing to attach the chest to the back but am scared to glue it down without knowing for sure that it's in the right place -
I taped up my arms and that went well. I took pictures and everything was fine. I tried to figure out a temporary way to attach the chest, back, ab, kidney and butt, and did not have as much success. Everything basically exploded apart before I could get a picture. Anyone have suggestions for how to tape this all together for test fitting?

How small can one make your armor?
bigtrev503 replied to gazmosis's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I'm talking about removing the raised part pin the backs of the thighs in a tapered way to custom fit my legs. Is it cool to do that? -

Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're blowing my mind! I could be more accurate by cutting ALL the raised parts off? I'm willing to if it is accurate....
